Is Ratchet & Clank PS4 Really Comparable To Modern Games?

The remake was widely revered as being a fantastic game but if we compare it to the latest and greatest, does Ratchet & Clank still qualify as a masterpiece?

The game is based on a game from 2002. It will inevitably have similarities to the game style of that time. But I would challenge you definition of a modern game (see: Undertale). The definition of a modern game is so lax that I don't really know what it should be compared to. I think we have to judge each game on its own.

Not a masterpiece, not even the best R&C game in my opinion - A Crack in Time deserves that honour. A very, very good game and visually brilliant. An essential PS4 title.

A Crack in Time is indeed a masterpiece and this new one is not "worse" enough to go from "masterpiece" to "very, very good". They are on par. R&C is excellent, and in my opinion a masterpiece. Based on the negative intent and faux concern in the comments prior to release, trying to use Wii U games to downplay it, I doubt you've played it.

I'm sorry you doubt, but that doesn't change the FACT I both own and am playing through it currently, enjoying it a lot thus far. Don't confuse me with those who troll Nintendo from the sidelines without investing themselves in both console and games, prefer instead to echo other non-Nintendo owning trolls - like sheep. Also, while I place A Crack in Time as my favourite R&C, I still don't consider it a masterpiece, simply brilliant. Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime, Skyward Sword, masterpieces.

I wish they had just made a new sequel rather than remake this one, but I guess R&C is targeted at a younger audience, most of which weren't alive when R&C first came out so this is a good introduction to the series for kids.

i also want a new sequel, but lets be honest here, many of the old fans hardly support any new ratchet and clank games(no matter how fun it is), so aiming for a new audience is the natural thing to do, and its way better than what happened to spyro or even crash.

And yeah, despite it being one of my favourite series of all time, the only one I'd call a "masterpiece" is A Crack in Time. But don't forget, on the internet "not a masterpiece" apparently means "oh my god this game sucks." XD

Meh good looking game for sure, but the first iteration was already a kid game by my standart when it released, so today it's just even less appealing. To basic for me. If you have kids though, it certainly is a great pick up.

Sorry, I could not disagree with your comment more. I in no way saw the first game as a 'kids' game neither before or after playing it. Plus every game is 'basic' when you strip it down, especially in today's standards were every open world game follows the same basic rules, and lets be honest, quite easy to complete once you know what your doing. In my opinion games like Ratchet & Clank represent want video games are really meant to be about, imagination, colourful, fun to play. They were the rules most games were based around.
What are the rules now? Do as many pointless repetitive side missions so the gamer believes they are getting value? Take over as many Zones on the map as possible? Rank 3 different characters up doing the same missions over and over again?
In a very sand box saturated industry Ratchet & Clank stands out and the latest version is breath of fresh air and every gamer should embrace it as it holds on to some fundamentals of what gaming really is about.

No. It's got old school platforming designs and that's exactly what makes it awesome. We had such an over saturation of shooters last gen that it was platformers that took the hit. The remake brings that back it's a hell of a lot of fun just like it was back then and it's been tweaked to be smoother and look incredible. Bring on the resurgence of platformers!!

I would be comparing it to other platformers, in which case, while not mind blowing, exceeds in pushing the genre forward. Personally, I'm glad this game came out - I hope it draws more attention back to the genre and we get more games like Ratchet & Clank.

it is a reimagine of the first game, its no masterpiece, but it sure hell a fantastic remake(with some new ideas) for new and old fans to start playing the game, and next game they can still use new ideas that will work with R&C formula, just hope that its not movie related.
