Really? If I commented on an article and said "women are the work of the devil" it would likely get bubbled down. If I commented on an article and said "Video games are the work of the devil" I would get bubbled down. It's not an intellectual statement, it's not a funny insult, it's as bad as a stupid schoolyard insult and should have no place here or anywhere.

It's immature, it's basically trolling, and it's a personal attack against a large large number of people.

I felt his comment was more paradoxical and sardonic to show the idiocy of the concept of something being the work of the devil.

You really read too much into it.

Granted it was more mocking than on topic, as the article details one persons experience with a devout catholic family and his ability to play video games within it.

It's still hard to understand that in 2016 people still have these superstitious beliefs, luckily here in the UK religion has been losing its grasp on society for a fair few years now.

The Philippines was subjugated in the medieval ages by both the sword and the cross of the Catholic Church. After a few hundred years of being owned by Christian Europeans, that stuff tends to stick around in a lot of the old-fashioned families.

Politics and religion are fundamentally sound in theory. It's in practice, where man can (and will) screw up the interpretation and application, do they often fall apart.

Religion and politics are also fundamentally different. Most importantly is that they always stay separated from each other.

Don't know about that. Would be a better place if the two things weren't abused for others to gain attention or power over others.

Politics has it's place, as anarchy is not an ideal, and most people who rail against the establishment would be completely lost without it.

Faith in general can have very positive influences on people, and overall, religion for the rational person is just a way to rationalize one's meaning in this life, and gives a set of values for one to live by...although one doesn't need religion to have sound values.

Unfortunately, for both, the reverse can be true. Politics can be corrupted, and religious dogma can be abused to influence culture, society, and individuals to one person's desires.

All that being said,

The world would be a better place if everyone, or at least more people would think critically using actual logic and facts, and not allow those that would corrupt or abuse have the loudest voices and influence the world in a negative way.:)

I think if one came to my door I would actually just ask them for examples of every point they had to make. Not just examples, but also peer reviewed research which backs up their arguments. I'd do it in such a way that makes it seem I'm actually interested. Probably try to waste a few hours of their time or something...maybe get my fiancee to help as she's an attorney who specializes in womens rights advocacy(not the batsh*t crazy kind, but actual abuses of the system kind) and then when it was all said and done finally we could both actually tell them why everything they said is wrong and harmful to society because it uses the wrong approach.(probably more her than me...I'd just go make popcorn) There really is nothing more satisfying than watching a real knowledgeable feminist lay into these pseudo feminist extremist who strawman everything, and make assumptions and hypocritical comments as if it's a completely rational and normal way of conducting a campaign such as that.

I'd offer them cookies and lemonade before hand. Maybe invite them to dinner. Then show them my game room with thousands of imported anime games and my fiancee could break out her Vita and play Criminal Girls invite which she's been addicted to for longer than I consider healthy.

Luckily I live at the top of a steep hill...so all we get is Mormons. They're more tolerable, because at least they give you more interesting booklets with interesting stories to read. Plus they are polite and not batsh*t crazy, and don't look at me like I'm about to rape them by answering the door when they knock. Found it funny when I was bored one day and asked him what he wanted to convey, and I think he wasn't expecting it. Poor kid....was nice though.

That could lead to another story of my outing to a restaurant where I had the pleasure of sitting next to a pair discussing SJW stuff at the next table rather loud and obnoxiously, and after about 30 minutes of my fiancee listening to it just laid into them about how uninformed and idiotic and narrow minded they were. Was a fun night really, and we were asked to leave...which meant I didn't have to pay for the dinner we had just eaten. :)

I know. I was saying that SJW are less tolerable than Mormons. At least the Mormons are polite and respect that you don't care what they have to say.

Also, Mormons and JW's are two different religions, so no confusion on my part.

Everything in the first couple paragraphs was about SJW's, with the rest being an metaphorical comparison.

I read about some who were passing out literature back during the interim elections. Never saw them around here though. I don't think they were the rampant extemist ones focused on gaming though.
