Why Mad Max Is a Hugely Overlooked Game

Sam Brooke:

"Mad Max didn't really make any Game of the Year lists, yet I feel that it's been hugely overlooked, and that it has plenty to offer."

I got this game for Christmas with my Xbox One and after seeing a trailer or two I am looking forward to seeing if the game holds up for me, it certainly looks enjoyable to say the least.

breakpad3065d ago (Edited 3065d ago )

if it wasnt a movie-game Ip i bet it would have far better acceptance in the gaming community...they made a mistake to tie it up with the movie...

Clown_Syndr0me3066d ago (Edited 3066d ago )

I found this game really fun but only got about 4 hours in before other games distracted me, and I've had no desire to go back to it. I think it was just a bit repetitive but I find this with many open world games, for example the Just Cause series.

USMC_POLICE3066d ago

It's a car combat game that's all it try's to be and should be of course it's repetitive, it's exactly what it needed to be and dam fun.

Clown_Syndr0me3066d ago

Each to their own but if a ga,e is that repetitive I'm never going to finish it.

thekhurg3066d ago

You can have mechanic focused games that aren't repetitive though. Just requires developer creativity.

ChronoJoe3065d ago

It certainly could have been more diverse, even in regards to its car combat.

And if it's a 'car combat game' and 'that's all it tries to be', as you describe, why do you spend 20 hours on foot slowly roaming around suffering a copy-pasted, yet dumbed down, Arkham Knight combat system?

FrostXVenom3066d ago

yeah great graphics, setting.I enjoyed first 10 hours...then the story quest really felt poorly designed and repetitive...then i stopped playing and didnt wanna go back...

brokenbracket3066d ago

Really enjoyed Mad Max, really hoping for a sequel. There's only a few things it needs to change to really up its game, like the combat system, more loot, maybe more varied weapons. The graphics were great, the length of it was a nice length. The mechanics, outside of the combat system, were spot on.

rynodigital3066d ago

I just found out last night that if you change the settings for the driving controls to alternate it switches the "fire" button to R1 and makes O the handbrake

^^

Thank you so much! :)

NotanotherReboot3066d ago

ANyone else getting a bit burned out from open world games? :(

Clown_Syndr0me3066d ago

Yes but only because many are uninspired, bland and repetitive.

pompombrum3066d ago

This pretty much, I'm all for quality open world games but nowdays it seems that everyone is making their games open world just because it's a trend as opposed to actually having a vision to create a quality open world game from the ground up.

bunfighterii3066d ago

Second that - I think devs are trying to make world's much larger, but in turn they make less interesting worlds. I prefer a relatively more 'compact' open world that's very curated and designed to explore rather than bland mass of nothing.

Khaotic3066d ago (Edited 3066d ago )

Your comments are repetitive. :)

spicelicka3066d ago

There's just too many of them now. I haven't seen an action game in a long time.

ion6663066d ago

Everytime I buy a game, boot it up. press start and then I look at the map........jeez its freakin huge. Its alwalys a bit overwhelming at times. It makes me tired just looking at the thing.

Baka-akaB3066d ago

Not really . i only go for open world games that each got a distinctive feel to begin with . I also was never enthralled by sandboxes without a story, good enough .... basically literally sandboxes where you have to entertain yourself on your own .

Mad Max is underrated. Such a fun game.

Cacabunga35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

RDR2 still looks astounding on PS4 Pro. i cannot imagine how it could look with a next gen upgrade.

JonTheGod35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

Probably not very different.

No idea why this article is highlighting recent beautiful graphically-advanced games and saying they need current gen makeovers. They already look better than most new releases; just compare Arkham Knight and Suicide Squad!

exputers35d ago

I see what you did there.

Yi-Long35d ago

It's obviously never gonna happen since Sony killed the game and studio, but Driveclub. Even in its current state, 10 years after release, it still puts many competitors to shame ...

Demetrius35d ago

I'm not into racing games but yeah I even looked at gameplay of that sometimes

redrum067d ago

It's a shame they cancelled the game. Definitely the best racing game I've ever played on Playstation. Just got GT7, but it feels so slow and less arcade-y, which is to be expected of a sim racer of course, that I just enjoy it less.
Driveclub also graphically looked insanely good for its time. I wonder what a Driveclub 2 would look like for the PS5.

Demetrius35d ago

Mad max ikr! Far cry primal, it amuses me how ubisoft just left ac unity hanging, sadly most of the good staff left from rocksteady while being forced to make that abomination smh

I had a blast with a Bugs Bunny game on PS1 as a kid. It is probably trash now but at the time, it was awesome.

"50 Cent: Blood in the sand"

Ps3 scored 6/10 all round loads of review sites but was so much fun while not a technical masterpiece in any way has a worthwhile engaging story and script and of course an unbeatable soundtrack.

Honorable mention to Drive Clubs Ferrari Fxx-K. Should be there over Horizon.

The Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak from the Gran Turismo series

Nissan Skyline from Need for Speed Underground

Motorcycle Steamroller from Dead Rising 3

And finally a car you never drive but saves your ass over and over : Honey Badger from COD MW2

Gardenia494d ago

I was thinking of Mad Max. That V8 felt really good to drive around in, especially with upgrades.

dumahim494d ago

No one liked the Batmobile in Arkham Knight. Top 10?

toxic-inferno494d ago

I don't know... It was a strange addition to the game, and the parts of the game where you had to fight in it were tedious. But driving it around Gotham felt brilliant.
