Final Fantasy 15 Vs Ni No Kuni 2 For Most Anticipated JRPG Of 2016

MoviePilot - Okay, I'm being fairly presumptuous by saying that Ni No Kuni 2 could get its release date in 2016, but I need to believe that the sequel to one of my favorite JRPGs of all time is just around the corner, okay? I'm insanely hyped for the sequel to Ni No Kuni and to once again experience the wonder of Studio Ghibli's narrative and animations on a Playstation console.

Personally I'm more excited for Ni no Kuni 2, but I want both.

Also excited for Dragon Quest XI, Star Ocean 5, Y's PS4 game, FFVII Remake, and Persona 5. 2016 could very well be the year of JRPGs.

Takwin3057d ago

I am MUCH more excited for Ni No Kuni 2. That game was magical and my daughter and I played and enjoyed it together. It was a wonderful mix of traditional JRPG with Pokemon, as well as anime and just loads of cuteness. But it still had some serious challenges and an extremely long end-game if you wanted it. It was glorious.

Bansai3057d ago

FF XV for me, hands down. I need to experience that dudebro trip, japanse rpg style.

TwoForce3057d ago

The soundtrack was so calm and beautiful.

NukaCola3057d ago

Ni No Kuni 2 all the way. I just love that Miyazaki universe.

Seraphim3056d ago (Edited 3056d ago )

Takwin, that sums it up. Magical. Ni No Kuni was just that and truly a special title. I'm so excited they are making another.

While I've been waiting for Final Fantasy XV since it was Versus XIII there's no doubt that I'm anticipating Ni No Kuni 2 more. I'm sure XV will deliver and be a solid game while not only do I know Ni No Kuni 2 will be but it just has that magic which makes for a classical RPG.

ShinMaster3056d ago

Persona 5 is my most anticipated RPG.
Followed by NNK2 and then FF15 kinda.

bouzebbal3056d ago

same here, for the oldschool JRPG fans Ninokuni is the winner here.
2016 i gonna be a winner year in so many ways. JRPGs one after the other (Star Ocean, Ys, Valkyria Chronicles HD, Ninokuni, World of FF, DQXI, DQ Builders, Persona 5...) i'm so hyped!

miyamoto3056d ago

NNK2 4 ME.

LEVEL 5 is the new Squaresoft.

I wanna feel good and light hearted again.

NNK: It's the closest to playing Level 5 3DS jrpgs on PS4.

Griever3056d ago (Edited 3056d ago )

It is impossible for me to choose between the two. It is like asking to choose between food or water when you havent had food and water for days. lol I want both and I will buy both! Ni no Kuni for the classic JRPG joyful feel and FFXV for the modern JRPG experience.

* Most Anticipated JRPG of 2016? = Dragon Quest XI

At least for me.

Relientk773057d ago

Yeah I REALLY want Dragon Quest XI

Germany73057d ago (Edited 3057d ago )

What a great year for JRPG and PS4.
It's difficult to choose between Ni no Kuni 2 and Persona 5.

DarXyde3056d ago

More of a Persona fan myself, but Ni No Kuni 2 will undoubtedly be great. Star Ocean I think will win my heart as well, but as much as I enjoy Final Fantasy games, it's definitely not my most anticipated JRPG this coming year.

itBourne3057d ago

I am so pumped for Persona 5, at the same time Ni No Kuni was breathtaking, it really brings out a part of your inner child, yet in a mature way.

Really soooo many JRPG's coming, not really sure if i will have the time. Pumped for the new Tales game as well, FF XV has me optimistically excited, shit Dark Cloud 2 ps4 would tack on another 100 hours or more for me.

Cant wait, and that is just JRPG games, ouch.

showtimefolks3056d ago

the art style has me more for ni nu kuni 2 but i also dislike turned base gaming but for ni nu kuni 2 i am more than willing to let that go

FF15 looks interesting but after FF13 i need to be convinced. i want to be hyped but i much rather just take the wait and see approach

joab7773056d ago

Persona 5 should be on this list. Yeah, I'm extremely excited for NNK2 b/c they were able to do in 1 game what FF14 couldn't do in 3, give us a next gen jrpg that stayed true to what we loved about them.

While I am also looking forward to FF15, it has completely abandoned it's jrpg roots to try and garner some western live. This hybrid may end up being amazing in its own right, and I think it will but...

I don't belive it should be part of this discussion. It should be NNK2 or Persona 5, 2 jrpgs tgat are using new tech to give us more of what we live about the genre, not change it because of past failures.

That said, I guess I have no idea. I want both P5 and NNK2. And I dont have to make a choice. NNK2 may not even be out this year.

TacoTaru3056d ago

Agree. While we can be sure that NNK2 and Persona 5 are really what we believe JRPGs should be, we don't know what evil SE will do to FFVIII in their quest to appeal to everyone in the entire world ... including FPS lovers.

The_BlackHeart__3056d ago

That's what I'm saying. How can anyone talk about a JRPGs war without mentioning what I consider to be the most quality consistent JRPG franchise: Persona.

Godmars2903057d ago

FF15 hands down.

Ni No Kuni will likely be the better game, but sine the FF brand has more notoriety, FF15 has more people looking for it.

Relientk773057d ago (Edited 3057d ago )

I agree FFXV is more popular, but I have more faith in Level 5. I hated the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy, so with Final Fantasy XV, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Edit: I'll buy Ni no Kuni 2 day one, but not FFXV

Kalebninja3057d ago

I don't see how you can say ni no kuni will likely be better when there's been one trailer with no gameplay.

Godmars2903057d ago

Because FF15 has been in the development for as long as it has with multiple directors. That's enough.

Thatguy-3103057d ago

Ninokuni was amazing so I'm pretty sure people are going off that.

Bahamut3057d ago

It's mostly due to the fact that Ni No Kuni was fantastic and the best JRPG in recent memory. Not to mention, Level-5 made Dark Cloud, Dark Cloud 2, Rogue Galaxy, White Knight Chronicles and more.

Whereas Square Enix hasn't done anything worth mentioning in the past 10 years, outside of a MMORPG (FFXIV) and a great handheld JRPG (Bravely Default).

Once Squaresoft became Square-Enix, everything turned to shit. (Dragon Quest benefited though, VIII was good)

-Foxtrot3057d ago

Yeah but it also is the one which will most likely be a huge letdown COMPARED to Ni No Kuni 2 since FF15s development has been so long.

twinspectre19903057d ago (Edited 3057d ago )

and thats the bad thing "FF15 has more people looking for it" what does that mean? you don't buy games that you like? or do you buy what other people like??

I buy what I really like, FFXV isn't for me
I like experimenting and discover games.

Somebody can explain to me what I deserve to get down voted?

yuukiliu3057d ago

My God I hope Ni no Kuni 2 launches in 2016. If it doesn't P5 is my most anticipated Jrpg next year.

Godmars2903057d ago

One - wrong company.

Two - Already been announced.

eyeDEVOUR3057d ago

What? Those games have been announced as well and arent the same dev so.._..

Godmars2903057d ago

@Disagrees:

How has Dark Souls - not "C-L-O-U-D", but "S-O-U-L-S" 3 not already been announced and how is FromSoftware not making said title?

BiggerBoss3056d ago

@godmars

He was saying Dark Souls 3 is his most anticipated JRPG, not that it is being made by Level 5.

Hoffmann3057d ago

Please what? Persona 5 or World of Final Fantasy.

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled26d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog158d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake157d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic156d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan157d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman158d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator157d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno157d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior158d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake157d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
