Bethesda’s First E3: Glorious Triumph And Some Disappointment

EGMR writes: "Bethesda’s first ever E3 appearance was an interesting one especially given that we knew exactly what to expect, but as we were asked prior to its beginning: were we ready for it? As the milestone in history that was their conference drew to a close I had a range of emotions and feelings swimming around inside me, and as much as my Fallout 4 hypo-meter was having a royal spaz attack, the more lucid part of my brain admits that despite a lot of triumph and goodness, there were some disappointing and concerning aspects of Betheseda’s E3 conference when looking at it overall."

I agree with the battlecry statement. Everytime they talk about it, I have no interest in it. But I disagree with the dishonored statement, it was more of a reveal of the game letting people know it exists and im glad it does. Im sure we will get more info about the game soon enough. But doom and fallout freaking 4 was amazing. It was a great conference regardless.

' If you feel I’m shitting all over your parade, well, I’m here to talk about games, not just worship them.'

That was unnecessary IMO :/

Tody_ZA3240d ago

Apologies for that, often we can be edgy or quippy or blunt in our writing and it wasn't intended to upset :) Thank you for reading.

WolfLeBlack3240d ago

That didn't come off as edgy, quippy or blunt, just as utterly needless in its existence :P

FPS_D3TH3240d ago

Yeah 'round these parts we call that there "click bait" and iss jus as bad as the DEVIL!

bigpiece3240d ago

he apologized! there is no need for you guys to keep atacking him. some of you guys are really immature or very young in age!

Tody_ZA3240d ago (Edited 3240d ago )

Nah it's cool bigpiece, thank you. It was an unnecessary/careless oversight in writing on my part and I did reword it a little after reading the comments here. Criticisms are always welcome.

Been glad with the responses here so far, and it's been sweet to see the diverse viewpoints on the conference.

Thanks for the feedback.

@Tody I dont think theres anything wrong with what you originally wrote. If I choose to read what you think I want your honest first impression of gaming news, uncensored, not a impression formed to appease Bethesda fans or a sugar coated opinion aimed to avoid criticism. If we all just hold hands so noboddy gets offended why bother expressing an individual opinion in the first place? I think smart folks can tell the difference between click bait/trolling vs just a honest point of view.

If I wanted the commenters opinions of your opinion Id just do as Iam doing now and read the comments section. I mean I get if you want to re-word some profanity but please dont bow to n4g or other fickle readers because many times their comments are clouded by emotion rather than trying to look at things from a objective point of view. I personally felt mostly the same as you did about Bethesda's show, actually I wasn't blown away by F4, those dog and animal animations look a bit clunky, graphics were OK, but overall I thought it looked good though.

Bethesda already has a great E3 and Im not a bit disappointed.
Just with the announcement of Fallout 4, Dishonored DE and Dishonored 2 Im a happy gamer. Im hoping we get some news on Doom 4 maybe a new Wolfenstein.

Edit: just saw the Doom video ok ok...i mean how happy can you get..wiithout crossing over.

Moldiver3240d ago (Edited 3240d ago )

Agreed. Fallout 4 and dishonoured 2 are must haves, for me.

EDIT:And of course doom!

showtimefolks3240d ago

I am sorry they disappointed you but for me personally what they showed of fallout 4 was by itself worth their conference. But than they showed us more of doom which looked amazing and like old school doom games

I know they didn't show a game play of Dishonored 2, but I feel like that trailer was more of a confirmation that it's in development than anything else

Fallout 4 game play from Bethesda has put every fear that anyone had to rest.

Please don't set your expections too high because than thee is a bigger chance for you to be let down. Just don't over hype yourself

Tody_ZA3240d ago

Fallout 4 and Doom, as the stars of the presser, were praised a lot in the article, as I even called the Snapmap a "masterstroke" and Fallout 4 one of the best E3 reveals in years, with regards to how expertly crafted the segment for it was.

The disappointment was directed more towards the terrible Battlecry marketing, I didn't feel Dishonored 2 was "sold" to me even though I'm naturally excited by it, and the hub-hub surrounding whether Doom's visuals will look as advertised.

As for the rest, if you read the article there's a lot of happiness surrounding Beth's first E3 :)

"Please don't set your expections too high because than thee is a bigger chance for you to be let down. Just don't over hype yourself"

Agreed!

i agree with you about battlecry

How To Solve Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update Performance Issue On OLED Steam Deck

Despite being verified for the Steam Deck, Fallout 4 has issues running on the OLED version of Valve's handheld device. Here's how it works.

Isn't this a better and easier work around?...

There is a partial workaround that adds the Fallout 4 launcher back  ;to the Steam Deck version of the game. Players need to add “SteamDeck=0 %command%” to Fallout 4’s launch options in the game’s settings on Steam Deck. But it’s wild and not great that players have to do this just to change visual settings while playing on Valve’s portable PC.

yup, worked for me a few hours ago

MrDead1d 6h ago

This update on PC kills mods, they still didn't improve or fix the draw calls and if you have an RTX card the game still crashes unless you turn off debris.
So if you mod the game it now looks worse, plays worse, all of your saves are broken and the game breaking bugs are still present.

Good work detective

Bethesda strikes again, always thought their games were a tad boring anyway, this was even before Microsoft brought them. Used to quake 3 team arena to death, on an old pc, at the time it was new, fresh, fast paced and innovative, their games these days, are none-of-the-above

Michiel198913h ago

Ever heard of a game called Doom or Wolfenstein, detective?
Also quake 3 arena was made by ID, which at the time wasn't part of Bethesda.

Profchaos16h ago

Yeah I've had friends rebuy the game because the ps plus didn't work and they used to own the last gen version sold off the physical after the PS plus pack included fallout when they got the ps5.

So overall I know ms has likely warned quote a bit from this error.

Barlos9h ago

This game hasn't aged well. I was really looking forward to the update, but I'm just not enjoying it. I never did get on with the settlement building and raiders, and I still don't. I won't be going back to this now.

mkis0076h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Settlement stuff was way undercooked. Too many settlements and QOL updates are needed, and can only be added by mods...which disable achievements. The game does 2 things better than past games: Gunplay and scavenging.

Profchaos5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

Have to agree settlement stuff was boring and dull but I loved the game outside of that still do. But next to other games is it's era like witcher 3 it always felt a little stuck in the mid 2000s

anast3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

They aren't really missing much. I've been playing it for awhile and it's just a polished turd. Low effort, hyped up like a full release.

Ha! They messed up the Xbox upgrade.

GamerRN21h ago

It's not messed up. This mode runs 60fps 1440p with ultra settings. If you want to see the other modes, disable 1440p somehow.

anast3h ago

The S doesn't have ultra settings.

Ironmike1d ago (Edited 1d ago )

They have and they haven't just download 60fps and ultra setting mod and gane looks great

GamerRN21h ago

And Ultra Settings ... @1440p. It's working as expected. There is a star that states in the patch notes that if 1440p is available, quality mode will stay in 60fps 1440p with ultra settings.

Barlos21h ago(Edited 21h ago)

Surely not! Bugs with something from Bethesda? Get outta here!

Father__Merrin10h ago

I noticed that performance mode on or off both 60fps which is best mode to use then?

BeRich23310h ago

"On" does seem to perform better too me.
