E3 Preview: Sonic Unleashed - E3 Exclusive Trailer & In-Game Screens

Ripten's Chad Lakkis writes:

"E3 08 … the moment of truth. Would Sonic Unleashed suck? Well, if you are willing to have an open mind, and can toss aside your hardcore "sonic must run fast all the time" mentality, then the answer will be no, Sonic Unleashed will not suck.

First off, Sonic unleashed is scheduled for release in November of 2008 for the Wii, PS2, PS3, and 360 consoles, and as expected, the next gen versions will be different in terms of both content and game play mechanics.

The version we were granted access to at E3 was the 360 version. So the information below is in large part specific to the next gen version of the game. The code we viewed was an early version, and SEGA made it clear that lighting, camera, and AI was still being worked on.

That said, lets dig into some Sonic Unleashed details."

A Sonic game with Sonic as the only playable character. About time :)

Although I am pretty mad they decided to add that monster. Oh well.

I don't know about Super Sonic though. I remember Sonic the Hedgehog (on PS3 & 360) had CG trailers that had him in it yet we could never play as him.

I agree about Super Sonic. The way the person answered the question was a bit dodgy, so who knows.

The day time missions look incredible, finally they bring the original feel back. Then night time, they ruined the series yet again. A wearhog, come the f**k on!. They had the game then added BS angry sonic mode. Another fail, hopefully they just build upon the better half of this game and succeed next time.

Nostradavis5780d ago

Why is it you aren't willing to give the night time gameplay a chance?

Rob0g0rilla5780d ago (Edited 5780d ago )

These guys always figure out a way to ruin these Sonic games. They never really listen to the fans until now. Just remove the monster Sonic out of this game and you have an instant classic.

BUT like every Sonic game I have played, I will give this game a chance.

A new development team too and I'm actually glad they didn't decide to add any other characters.

poopsack5780d ago (Edited 5780d ago )

have you actually looked deaper into the nightime parts? The have added more than just some beat em up parts, theres platforming to, I mean its bad that they have really cool speed parts that are classic to the series and added a twist by making vertical platforming parts? You're like 60% of the gaming community that call themselves gamers, but just repeat what everyone else is saying.

They dont look all out awesome, but just because it isnt super cool for you its suddenly fail? Gamer? yeah right, arent gamers suppose to play games, or has the definition changed to person who complains about every aspect of one.

Arsenic135780d ago

It just looks taked on to make sonic "cool" or something. The day play looks soooo good. But then to make Sonic look like a bad ass they had to make him transform and have stretch arms. I gave up on Sonic after the gamecube ports of those dreamcast sonic games.

If I have to read another one of these lists that contains the sentence "The game that started it all" I'm gonna go nuts.

And when it comes to fan favourite zones in Sonic 3 (he mentioned Hydro City, Marble Garden and Launch Base), I'd replace Launch base and Marble Garden with Ice Cap zone. Never heard anyone refer to the others as favourites.

NJShadow681d ago (Edited 681d ago )

I sorta' stopped caring about this list when I saw Sonic Spinball (a genuinely great game) ranked lower than some of the noted atrocities.

Pyrofire95681d ago

Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed is still my favorite kart racer.
I've never really been able to play online tho. D:
Can't even play Team Sonic Racing online cause the servers are broken and don't queue people together.
P.S. This is such a random list. I really don't agree with it. Maybe this really is how they rank it but them just seems odd personally.

Top Ten Sonic the Hedgehog Games

Phil writes, "Today, June 23rd, 2021, is Sonic the Hedgehog's 30th anniversary. 30 years ago today in 1991 a blue hedgehog named Sonic took the gaming world by storm with a spin dash, a too-cool-for-school attitude, and a hankering for chili dogs. SPC celebrates the occasion with a special top ten list, presenting the site's picks for the very best of the Blue Blur's biggest and boldest titles. After you've checked out the picks here, which Sonic games would you select as your personal favorites?"

wheres sonic 06 lol. I know im in the minority but if you can look past all the glitches I actually liked the game.

Chocoburger1056d ago

I have played the game more than I'm willing to admit. Even beat all the DLC as well, and nearly S ranked everything including the DLC.

The game had good graphics for the time, and a fantastic soundtrack. If only it had an extra year of development it could have been a decent game. People keep harping on the kiss at the end of the game as if its a big deal. It really isn't (people kiss their cats and dogs all the time, and no one freaks out about that).

They try extra hard to hate on the game, and while it does have a multitude of unacceptable flaws and had serious development issues (Yuji Naka quit SEGA early on during the project which definitely caused some internal struggles at Sonic Team), there are some positive aspects about the game that people don't give it credit for.

DarXyde1056d ago

Hmmm, this is kinda cheating, but I would rate Sonic 3 & Knuckles as #1, rather than having the two games separately occupy #2 and #3.

That was literally the only game I played for YEARS.

In any order

Sonic Adventure 1
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Heroes
Sonic Shuffle
Sonic Generations
Sonic Lost World
Sonic Unleashed
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic CD
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
