E3: Sony, Microsoft's Wii copying a danger, says Nintendo

Nintendo Co. president Satoru Iwata on Tues. briefly referenced how reproduced ideas from rival hardware makers have forced it to continually innovate in the marketplace.

Iwata told the press at its annual E3 media briefing Tues. that consumers can grow quickly of new ideas, particularly when competitors provide similar offerings.

It's more important to improve on a product than to re-invent the wheel... take N64 for example... though their control indroduce an analog stick or rumble it does not mean that control was better than the PS2 controller... There is innovation in improving products...

Nintendo made the mii and microsoft and Sony are actually doing something with the concept...

Good thing Nintendo is not the only one in the industry... at least Sony and Microsoft improve on the half-@$$ innovations that Nintendo does and adapt them to the hardcore gamer...

Yeah it was highly hypocritical of Nintendo to start off talking about the need to not copy and then end up copying Voice chat, The Star Wars dueling game, Rock Band / Guitar Hero in some freakish zombie resurrection of air instrumenting.

Really, I think they've lost their edge and want to try and roping in the people who may go to the 360 or PS3 for more fun than what the Wii is giving them.

I disagree. Microsoft is the innovator when it comes to Online Gaming and Xbox Live which Sony is assimilating almost feature for feature. So it's Sony as usual!

you are wasting you time. i find that sonyfanboys have selective memory. they tend to forget thing like how sixaxis copied the wii-mote because it couldn't use rumble because of the lawsuit. now look at that feature they barely ever use it in games.
or trophies and in-game XBM. copying MS sucess on achievements,custom soundtracks and full XBM feature in all games.

Microsoft could say the same about Nintendo trying to copy XBLA. They don't have to though, cuz the arent afraid of the lackluster wii with only one interesting exclusive coming out in the next 6-9 months...Madworld....and a terrible online service. Nintendo took the most risks. Their history proved that, everything from the Powever Glove to the Virtual Boy, they keep on trying and trying until they hit it with the Wii. Hate all you want but thats a fact.

True. Nintendo take the most risks in terms of hardware. I'd say Sony takes the most risks with software, supporting games like okami, the Katamari games, music games like frequency and guitar hero and so on. They also made the eyetoy of course, and there are dance mats, light guns and the buzz controllers.
I haven't seen MS support anything anywhere near as innovative or risky until it has already been a success. Their only innovation was Live which I personally don't count as very risky.

I consider the 360 system blade to be an innovation. The fact you can play your mp3 track, msg people, etc MS was doing this in 2005. Achievements were totally out of left field -- no one knew really what they were when the 360 launched. I remember them popping up on GRAW 1 and not really knowing what they meant.

The XBLA is an innovation as well. We all sort of imagined it because of services like Steam, but 360 was the first to do it in consoles.

if anything, the Wiimote copies the SIXAXIS BECAUSE THE SIXAXIS in the PS1 was the first controller with motion control, the Powerglove is the opposite; the Powerglove in it's form is a motion controller that never meant to use buttons or a controller of any kind.
