That is like saying you couldn't put Metal Gear Solid 4 on the PC. The newer PCs and graphics cards blow away any console as far as specs and power are concerned. And they don't have a Blu-ray drive as standard.

All they would have to port Metal Gear solid 4 to the 360 and/or PC is put in on multiple disks. Blu-ray is nothing but a storage medium.

Any PS3 game could be made on the 360. Same as any 360 game could be made on the PS3. All of this 'supposed power' that anybody spouts is nothing more than PR BS. Sure certain things would have to be accomodated to suit the hardware because the architecture is different, but that is a given.

Resident Evil 5 looks better than MGS4 - and it is cross platform. So don't tell me that it is not possible on the 360. You just might have to use 3 disks because of all the cut scenes.

Look at GTA IV 360 and its lousy draw distance/pop-in. There are definitely processing power differences in the 2 machines. Eventually the 360 is going to be to gimp in various ways not just a lack of blu ray. Look at the ocean that goes on forever in Uncharted, Glorious horizons.

The only thing that make it impossible for the time being is the fact that sony got a timed (1 year) exclusive for MGS4. If you compress the sound and cut sences you could probably fit mgs4 on 1 maybe 2 dvds. The sound is a complete waste any ways as only about 1% of the people have a HD surround sound system in their homes. Even if it took 4-5 disc that not a big deal if you made a list of the greatest games of all time. Probably half of them be multi disc game. How many disc did FF7 have ? how about MGS1 ? or Panzer Dragoon Saga ? and no one cared cause they were all great games.

300 million is an exaggerated #, even so Blockbuster Movies have had similar budgets and games will too someday.

Usually an RPG once an engine is built and assets are created it would not take to long to fill up discs with content and CG intro's , Endings and everything inbetween gameplay that furthers the story line. Especially since Squeenix has studios that can make even MGS4 cut scenes look short and less detailed. ie. Spirits within , Advent children. Every FF game thats released on a sony platform has high quality CG.

The cost of creating a next-gen game keeps going up. MGS4 was reported to cost around $50 million thats about 1 BD of content so you could easily fill 3 for $150 million. So I think 300 mill is an exaggeration.

I think you're forgetting that XBOX 360 titles hardly ever reach 720p while PlayStation 3 games go up to 1080p at 60fps. This is why I think Wardevil: Unleash the Beast Within and Heavy Rain: The Origami Killer went exclusive. The visuals alone can be higher on the PlayStation 3 than XBOX 360. So with games like Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots XBOX 360 can't do so much at once. They only have 3 symmetrical cores and PlayStation 3 has 6 synergistic processing units for developers to work with.

Anything that is on the XBOX 360 can be doubled on the PlayStation 3 due to 3 more SPEs compared to the XBOX 360. Depending on what type of game and what's going on it will most likely not be possible on the XBOX 360. Anything on the PlayStation 3 can be on the PC but would need a lot of streaming (installing) and redo of the coding.

In the end any game can be ported over it's just the experience that can be different with each. Metal Gear Solid 4 on the PlayStation 2 can be done with a lot less action, enemies, textures, space etc.

1st of all, kojima made it clear that he did not compress any data for the game to keep everything high quality. So 360 automatically gets crappy port if you compress.

Game is at least 33GB. 360 DVD 9 holds 7GB of actual data. Do the math that is like 5discs at least.

Nothing wrong with multi discs though. But the point to be made here is MGS4 as it exist today in its one disc form with mega installations and all that is only possible on PS3. END OF STORY

Im not 100 percent on this but I though compression did not diminish the quality of games. I though it only made it so it took longer to load. Cod 4 and pretty much every multiplatform game is compressed on the Xbox 360 and it loads faster and looks identical if not better than the ps3 version. The only difference between a ps3 version of mgs 4 and a xbox 360 version would be that.

Ps3 version-
1 blueray
10 minute install + 3 minute installs in between chapters.

Xbox 360 version-
2-5 dvds
no installs
Maybe additional content as an incentive to get people to purchase it.

so in best case 6GB of new data on each disc = 8 DVDs, with additional content = 10 DVDs. Unless game will be downgraded, then maybe it will take less space.

Basically MGS4 is possible on the 360, but it will not look as good as it does on the PS3. MGS4 also has got HD Audio 5.1 surround which would be downsampled for 360.

If the game is 33GB on PS3 and they kept everything exactly the same it would be ATLEAST 5 DVDs (because of MS' 7.5GB size limit on the DVD9). Then on top of that they would have to duplicate all major files on each disc (unless they install these on to the HDD), e.g. textures, music, sfx, menus (ingame and main menu), logo movies at the start. Meaning the game would possibly go over 6 DVDs.

Because of this they would HAVE to lower the quality of the game cos MGS4 is only 5 acts, how would that fit on 6 DVDs?

Square Enix have not thought FF13's move to 360 out, I think they will realise that they will have to compromise A LOT for the game to work on the 360. This will either mean both the PS3 and 360 versions of the game will get gimped, or the PS3 version will look a lot better (cos they are developing that version first and haven't even started on the 360 version).

Metal Gear Solid 4 IS only possible on the Playstation 3. Hideo Kojima even said himself that some of the things in MGS4 "were only possible on the Playstation 3".

I think that MGS4 is going to stay a PS3 exclusive. The only way for MGS4 to even be done on the 360 is if the ENTIRE game was changed and downscaled and that would take probably take 6 months- 1 year or so in development time.

Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions are moving on to their NEXT PS3 Exclusive.

MGS4 is almost made to attack the X360 and praise the PS3. The dialogues are full of subtle (and not so subtle) anti-X360 references and blu-ray praising. There's a sixaxis in snake's hands! There's a PS3 in the plane! Mantis talks about the sixaxis's rumble!

And HOW THE HELL would you understand the story? MGS4 is the most complicated game ever story-wise, and you NEED the past games to understand what's going on.

Absolutely not. There's huge chunks of content that would need to be cut, because of the Sony references and Apple products and PS hardware built into the game, so they've already created problems.

This may not seem major, but a lot of this is built directly into the game's cut scenes and/or narrative. The question is, is it worth it to go back and figure out a way to compress the game as well as go through and basically do major re-writes for cutscenes, story line and dialogue, just to have a 360 version?

Trust me, Sony and Kojima made sure this was impossible on 360, not from a technical stand point, from a content stand point.

Also, MGS4 on 360 would lack online, because Konami want to run it and charge for it on their servers.

and in some scenes actually exceeds Crysis (although mostly its not in the same league) says quite a bit about how effective the PS3 is as a system despite the fact that the GPU is not in the same league as the latest PC graphics cards. Can it be done on a PC? Of course, even improve it and use multiple discs, then install on the hard-drive in full for an interruption less experience.

Can it be done on the 360? With some cutbacks, yes, as long as multiple discs are used and a hard-drive is available. MGS4 requires such a high volume of data that a hard-drive is a necessity. They designed it like a PC game but rather than install the whole game, you install bits at a time as you get there and overwrite previous levels to conserve space.

It already has been done with UT3.. ANd gears 2 is out dated. Looks as good as UT3 or about the same as gears 1.. Uncharted smashed gears graphically and it still looks better than gears 2.. I agree, you can swap discs quicker than an install. However, I'm not sure it only takes fifteen seconds because of the loading screens and all. I'd give it 30 to 45... That does nothing to argue your point though, as you can still switch out many discs qucker than you can install five gigs of data. The one drawback and reason I prefer one BD over multiple DVD9s is just because there's less risk management. It's a lot easier to misplace or damage a game on multiple discs. Not to mention that BDs are damage resistant. Other than that, I think all other arguments are stupid. You can do any game on DVD9 that you can on BD...it just takes more discs.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind the disc switching if it came to the 360. I played through on the PS3 and the sporadic 3 min load times while I watched Snake smoke a cigarette? Pretty sure in that 3 minutes, I could get my fat ass off the couch, walk over to my console, and change a disc. So undoable on the 360 is hard to believe.

And as far as the the in-game advertising that somebody brought up being "content" that would be needed to change... I doubt it would take too much since it was all in-game cutscenes and not rendered.

And other Metal Gears have been on consoles other than Playstation, MGS4 would be okay on something other than the PS3. Just my two cents.

I'm not sure if it's more possible with MGS4, because what (kind of) clued me in on Final Fantasy XIII was that the engine (designed specifically for the PS3, called the "White Engine") was being made into an engine that worked with the PS3, Xbox 360, and the Wii (called the "Crystal Tools Engine"). However, with MGS4, the engine is probably a proprietary engine designed solely for use on the PS3.

The only reasonable truth to what this PR boy said is that you can't put the PS3 game into the xbox 360 tray and play it... just like you can't take Gears 1 and play it on the PS3...

Metal Gear is linear and can be released on multiple discs... 4-5... hell and now with the new xbox 360 features that allows entire games to be played from the hard drive and I don't see how 3-4 discs can't be put into my 120GB hard drive...

Unless the reason he is suggesting are not technical.... maybe they are $$$.. maybe Sony paid a ton of money to Kojima and Konami to keep it that way since losing Metal Gear on top of Final Fantasy XIII would be a disaster and something they can never spin..

In business wise Sony wont let it happened, they already secured it as an exclusive. No buts about it!
The chances of a Sony franchise coming onto the 360, is about the same chances as the halo series coming to the ps3.. there's always a chance.. but in percentage terms.. less then 15%
Therefore you get the rounding of it being impossible..
There's probably a better chance of mgs coming on the wii then the 360- if that makes better sense.

I guess Sony hadn't heard that MS will soon allow games to be stored on the HDD...which would nullify the disc-changing problem. Fact is, since FF XIII coming to the 360, there's NO REASON that MGS4 couldn't happen as well. Both games will use a ton of disc space, with a ton of in-game cutscenes. Sure, the 360 version may be considered undesireable, compared to the 1-disc version of the PS3...but it's still "possible".

Kojima wants the best of the best. Meaning he doesn't want to compress anything to lose any quality.

If you haven't realized, games like Bioshock and FFXIII were made on easily portable codes. Games like MGS4 was made SOLELY with the Cell Processor and PS3 architect in mind.

about swapping disk. People like bluray not just because they don't have to swap disks, but because they like the convenience of only having one disk for their game. They don't have to worry about losing or scratching more than one disk. To them, it's sleek and compact to have one CD for their game. It's 2008. Swapping disks is not difficult or time consuming (that's not the argument), but people like that bluray is a technological advancement, and the perks associated with it.

Another thing, no PS3 game is impossible to do on the 360, but it might not be the same in terms of quality. I have no idea how much more powerful the PS3 is than the 360 (regarding real, usable power), but if a game takes advantage of every spec of the PS3's architecture---all the SPUs, asymmetrical processing, and parallel coding, then I think it could be fair to say that some games like that would have difficulty running right on the 360.

Either way, I don't think MGS4 will end up on the 360, but I could be wrong. Konami and Hideo would look pretty dumb to go back on everything they've said about keeping exclusivity. Why? Because they said it all the way up to the game's release. That's different then the way Squaresoft handled it.

first i think mgs4 can be done on the 360 but only if they dumb it down little, if mgs4 ever goes to the 360 they would have to make the cutscence shorter and make the graphics less WOW, and i dont think the bike mission will be done on the 360 instead they will just make it a full on drive thru instead of having it look like ur playing a movie, and another thinig is that the cutscene to gameplay will not be done, instead of going from cutscence to gameplay they will be a loading screen,.....it can obviously run on pc because the pc is not a console its a COMPUTER but i dont think it can run on the 360, thats just my tought so dont attack the sh1t out of me 360 fan bois (>_<)

Even though Square-Enix says the game will be the same, that's only telling half the story. There's no way they could achieve the same audio quality while maintaining the game's graphical and technical quality if bringing it to 360. Heavy compression will be needed as well as multiple disks (which will most likely occur).

This is not about MGD4 can't go to PC or xbox360 because they not good enough machines.It is about the patented engine created bettew Konami & Sony to make fhis game possible on PS3.

If Konami resolves to make this game for other plataform they would need to create a new totally different engine and it will be a port that will not be as good as it looks on the PS3,well unless they work for 2 or 3 years to realy make almost a perfect port or maybe even better.

It is more or less what happened to FF13 on the 360....port using new engine ....by middle 2010 itnwill finaly arrives.

Most games, including MGS4 is possible on the XB360. Only games like GT5 where you have massive tracks and massive car models will become a problem when you want to be able to race all cars on all tracks. It will add a couple of DVD's to the equation.

With MGS4 you might have some cutscenes with 10 minutes of play on a DVD, or simply cut out the cutscenes. Maybe tone down some of the physics, but I can not see anything that would make it less playable on the XB360.

So it would be on multiple discs. i would MUCH RATHER take a few seconds to swap a disc than watch Snake smoke a cigarette for 8 minutes in between each act. this whole "blu ray is amazing" movement is pure garbage from the fanboys. it does have more storage, but the trade off is huge install times. i'd rather just swap the discs.

Yeah it could be done, but probably won't be.
Personally i don't care. Already finished it. I enjoyed it, it was good but it's not in my top3 of this generation or anything, i prefer all out shooting though so its not a reflection on the game.
If you want it, play it on ps3. Go round a mates house if you haven't got one, you can finish it in a weekend.

Why?. Because Kojima already did the best he could for MGS4 on PS3 which we PS fans are enjoying now. If the x360 gets a port then it won't affect the PS3 version obviously and more gamers will enjoy this masterpiece and more money for Kojima which deserves every penny he gets for MGS4.

should not get their hopes up. It won't come out on the 360. Kojima even said it is "technically impossible," and no, that doesn't mean that the PS3 version of MGS4 can't be played in the 360 dvd driver. Plus, lots of the game revolves around Playstsation, such as the bluray jokes, Sanke holding a PS3 controller, and references to PS1 a few times during a boss battle. When the doc said "Snake, now is the time to put in disc 2" he would have been serious. The game would look and sound worse on the 360, not to mention less versions of rumble. It's just not going to happen.

I also saw and heard kojima twice say that MGS4 is a timed exclusive, about a year! MGS4 is coming out on Xbox 360 like it or not! More money might get us all a better Kojima game. : )

There are a few reasons why this game will never come to the 360.

1. Too much space - it would require multiple discs
2. Sony braded - Controlle used to control M.k. II is a Dualshock3
3. References - The game has Sony written all over it (if you've played the game then you know what im talking about or just youtube the "MGS4 swap discs" scene)
