sub 800p?? Buts its above 720p?/ Why not just give its 720p and make it stable? I prefer stability over silly resolutions..

Abash3341d ago (Edited 3341d ago )

FFXV is an ambitious looking game, Im glad they are getting more out of the PS4's power at least. But I still hope they can at least get the PS4 to 1080p by release

pivotplease3341d ago

It's partially open-world. I'm not holding my breath for a high resolution. It looks amazing and not even in the smoke-and-mirrors way that XIII looked amazing. It's actually a whole beautiful world that can be zoomed in on and undergoes drastic light changes through day/night cycles.

What I'm really concerned about is the story and gameplay. We haven't really had too much indication of how fun and strategic the game will be or which direction the story is headed in now that they've been keeping the story under wraps lately.

_-EDMIX-_3341d ago

they can.....at the cost of quality. They have it at 900p likely to maintain the current quality they have.

If you play any game on PC, you'll notice you can play games at a greater quality with lower resolution, then with a higher resolution.

Haru3341d ago

doesn't look that ambitious imo, only a big terrain map with flat texture all over the place the only high resolution models in the game are the characters

SouljAx3603341d ago

They aren't getting that much more out of PS4. I'd rather have 720p with a stable FPS. Just got done playing the demo a little while ago and the framerate was pretty crazy.

StarLord_Who3341d ago (Edited 3341d ago )

Ambitious?

It's running on a last gen engine, this game should be 1080p 60fps. I've also heard a lot of criticism about the textures being "dated" and "unpolished."

this game should easily run 1080p 60fps.

That being said, i think the whole resoution debate is ridiculous. The resolution is something we as consumers should NOT be allowed to know, it just helps make a game look worse, even though nothing has really changed.

Kumomeme3340d ago

@StarLord_Who
it was ambitious game...who said it run on last gen engine?it running on luminous studio engine, the engine square develop for next gen..
you didn't really follow recent updates right?

how you call those graphics last gen?its looks better than lot of open world game nowdays
beside ,even how old the engine is,doesnt mean it will has higher resolution and fps because it 'old' engine so the console could easily run?...higher fps and resolution not solely depends on the engine...you try put unreal engine 3 game and it might be still unable to reach stable 60fps..it was open world game, and lot of graphical effects need to be load with all those others information like animation and others stuff..also,it was not easy to make something run 60fps especially with those demanding ambitious visual

badz1493340d ago

but but but...The Order...800p...

/s

nah...it's just a demo. the final version might not follow those resolution.

DonFreezer3340d ago

Wait you hope the PS4 version will get there but you also hope the Xone stays the same so that you and your ps fanbase can troll?

Goodbye my shitty Xbox 360 and PS3 subpar 720 games that are still to this day some of the best games made.

pivotplease3341d ago

I think people are just disappointed in the technical leap from last generation to this one. In a perfect world PS4 would have launched at $500 with slightly better specs and would play everything at 1080p, but they knew they were going to get undercut by the competition with that approach. It's a shame but I think the graphical leap will be amazing over the next two years anyway. Just playing FC4 and going back to FC3 is really eye-opening. FC3 looks like a pixelated deuce now.

Big_Game_Hunters3341d ago (Edited 3341d ago )

You can't be serious. You are really questionig why people have are unhappy with minimal improvement after 10 years?

_-EDMIX-_3341d ago (Edited 3341d ago )

"I think people are just disappointed in the technical leap from last generation to this one. In a perfect world PS4 would have launched at $500 with slightly better specs and would play everything at 1080p"

@pivotplease- well not really. Most people don't even get technically what is happening.

MOST people couldn't even name a list of next gen only titles.

MOST games released were cross gen or ports. We actually got few next gen only titles to even render such an opinion regarding how people feel on a "leap" I'm sorry but something like Aliens, The Evil Within, AC IV are NOT LEAPS! Thus...most peoples experiences with next gen machines are with games that are not fully next gen to begin with..

PS4's specs are fine....3.6TFLOPS of performance is unheard of and mind you...no PC game even requires such a spec to play a game.

1080p is a choice a developer makes...its game dependent NOT SYSTEM!

Buy a PC....play a game, set the game to 1080p, if it runs slow...turn off some features, lower the quality and surprise!

Hard right?

What do you think its happening to those games that actually RUN that setting on PS4 and XONE?

They are lowering quality to due so..

800p, 900p, 30fps etc.

Those settings are due to the high demand of the engine, its extremely powerful and they must make some adjustments to push graphical fidelity.

Now...lets say your on PC, you turning off features to make it look better? You lower quality to get 1080p and think its looks better?

You sure?

How do you know developers are not making engines that MAX OUT PS4 and XONE?

How do you know that even with a better GPU, they wouldn't just make A BETTER ENGINE! DO you not get that its again...GAME DEPENDENT?

Again...if you own a PC, you understand its not due to the system, its actually do to the engine and the power they are seeking to get from it.

PS4 has the performance of a 3.6tflop gpu, thus developers will make a game that seeks to max out such a gpu.

Why?

They will not look lessor to their competitors.

On a set GPU that you could ONLY max out HL2 in 1080p 60fps, you likely could only get Crysis at 720p 30fps....

Sorry but not only would Crysis always look better, but it would be more demanding to due so. THUS it would run lessor because the engine is BETTER!

Higher frames, higer res on a SET SYSTEM means the engine is less demanding.

Please...dear god next time please try to understand what someone deems as "next gen"

I'm sorry but HL1 at 1080p doesn't look better then Crysis at 720p.

To even use Far Cry as an example only further shows how little you know regarding engines.

Its a cross gen game, I would't even consider it next gen, even slightly. Its not ugly, but its clear it isn't what Witcher 3, Arkham Knight, Dead Island 2 etc are.

Thats like saying last gen was ugly because you played Gun, Tony Hawk Wasteland, Bully, etc on 360.

Judge next gen systems by NEXT GEN games please.

"PS4's specs are fine....3.6TFLOPS of performance is unheard of and mind you...no PC game even requires such a spec to play a game."

I see you're still trying to convince people that ps4 has 3.6tf hahahaha Are you the sony version of Misterx or something? Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's only 1.7+tf and nothing more.

"PS4 has the performance of a 3.6tflop gpu, thus developers will make a game that seeks to max out such a gpu."

No it doesn't and I can't believe you're still posting this nonsense. I'd go over the rest that's wrong in your long post, but I have better things to do.

My mistake....

its 3.68TFLOPS.... lolz

"No it doesn't and I can't believe you're still posting this nonsense. I'd go over the rest that's wrong in your long post, but I have better things to do."

...you got a link? Sounds like the better things you should be doing is actually reading.

listed spec and performance are 2 different things.

On I build gaming computers and game on console. I very much know that on console they generally have 2x the performance of their listed GPU as on PC we have unoptimized parts.

Thus...on console those parts generally run faster much more powerful then their exact PC counter parts.

If you put the same GPU chip from a PC to a console, the console would performance 2x the TFLOPS as the PC as its fully optimized to solely run games.

Whats sad is....all you have to do is merely google what I'm talking about. This is factually known in the development community regarding consoles.

sorane3341d ago

@edclueless

Seriously you really need to stop linking the same 2 old links everytime I prove you wrong. The Carmack one is from YEARS ago before the ps4 was even released and has NOTHING to do with todays tech and the second one is from a company who's OWN GAME doesn't take anymore PC power than what is in the ps4 to run better than the ps4. You are one delusional fanboy. Just point to ONE game that requires 3.6 tf on PC to run the same as ps4 settings? Well? Oh yeah you can't since even a $100 750ti runs games better than the PS4 and it's weaker in specs! Every single game released proves your posts 100% WRONG. At least misterx tries to fool people with his jibberish, you just come across as totally clueless. You're not fooling anyone by saying you're a pc gamer since you're obviously not.

Kumomeme3340d ago (Edited 3340d ago )

anyone who said there was minimal leapt between previous and current gen seriously wrong..

for example, last year gdc presentation enough to see lot of leapt from past gens..
the visual to me,compared to last gen quite a leapt since lof of game especially realtime gameplay achieved prerendered or near cgi level..

realtime cutscene gonna be standard compared to last gen

last gen,uc3 for example has 35k poly,ff13 alo around that with ff13-2 get lowered around 15k and now for ffxv we got 100k poly, same goes for infamous ss 120k,ryse 85k(originally it gonna run 150k)

far more animation bones...
atleast 10x resource on memory...
if you read last year gdc presentation, infamous ss already used 1.5gb memory just for texture and it was already big size(dont believe me,but those tech guys said so)
order 1886 used 2gb solely on texture and expect 3gb vram of gpu will be least minimal in future ..you can see lot of gpu coming with 4gbs vram already

more varied AA,last gen FXAA is the only things console could run with higher fps since other aa like msaa not only require stronger power also lot memory

subsurface scattering, cascaded voxel cone ray tracing might be norm, better hair in fur tech, better facial, new skin texture tech like recent SSSS
more dynamic light,global illumination..vfx,particle system,physics,AI,high quality post-processing effects
lot of games take open world road..expect more realistic and dynamic open world aspect that couldn't be done before like bigger, weather,ai and other stuff
also, how game devs making animation also gonna change, voice recording together with acting will be standard, like how it done in tlou and avatar movies

also, dont expect much on first wave of next gen console games...expect at the seconds..crytek ceo mention this..not me

put aside crysis 2,and other last gen pc games...pc had advantages due stronger hardware and memory, put aside resolution, fps and better texture but look at tech side..lot of pc game suffer from late of incoming next gen console...especially game that build so it could run last gen console specs together were suffers from grapical leapt..and most of pc games last gens were use not more than 2 core and 2gb of ram(of course, there was exeption to ambitous developers) but all of these gonna change in future.. 4 core 64bit game requirement will be normal things since lot of new games now already adopt that

there quite leapt not only in visual, also in lot of aspects

How can somebody know its sub-800p, yet not know the exact resolution? 792p? 721p? 799p? 899p? 144p?

MRMagoo1233341d ago

Well sub 800p isn't going to be 899p so you can Check that off the list. It's probably some stupid rez like some other games have been on xbone like 792p.

Th3o3341d ago

People have cared for 6 years with the Ps3 v. 360, it won't stop here. Especially since now they found something they can market.

I personally don't care when I'm gaming on TV, even 480p doesn't look TERRIBLE but if I were to play sub Resolution on a computer monitor I would notice the blur.

I will say this, Wish we would have waited another year or 2 for the next gen consoles and had them do native 1080p @ 60 fps.

It feels like most games that are 1080p and 60 fps are just recycled last gen games.

turdburgler10803341d ago

I have a solution. Go to the grocery store and buy a bag of peas. Just hear me out. Then duct tape said bag to the TV and viola! theoretically your p's are only limited to the size of the bag you can duct tape to the tv. Best deals for peas are probably at costco.

_-EDMIX-_3341d ago

"Wish we would have waited another year or 2 for the next gen consoles and had them do native 1080p @ 60 fps"

LMFAO. I game on both console and PC.....its very, very clear you don't know what your taking about.

Doing 1080p 60fps isn't hard....

All you have to do is lower settings and turn off many features.

How do you know Square just didn't want their game looking like trash?

Do you not get when you seek that setting at what huge compromise it actually is?

Consoles are set hardware.

If you own a PC with a GPU that could ONLY max out HL1 in 1080p 60fps and to play Crysis, it would need to be 720p 30fps.....you sure that means HL1 had the better engine and development?

You sure it just doesn't mean that Crysis is more demanding and needs the power to create what you see at such a setting?

To have that game run that setting, it would mean it would look WORSE! Simply because its at a compromise to the graphics.

Again...take a PC game that is already maxed out at 720p 30fps and drop the settings to get it to run 1080p 60fps.

You sure you made it look "better" with less quality on settings?

LMFAO!

It just sounds to me like most gamers have no clue exactly that is happening. 1080p 60fps isn't hard bud, the reason you don't see it much with next gen only titles is because its at a HUGE graphical cost, a cost they sorta can't afford to make against other titles.

I mean...have you not seen the damn examples of 1080p 60fps games on PS4 and XONE?

GTASA ran 1080p 60fps on 360....

GTAV didn't.....

Yet...which one looks better bud?

GTAV doesn't run that not because it can't (as their ports run that)

because they making a new demanding engine that is better then the last.

If they wanted 1080p 60fps...they would have just used renderware.

Sorry but GTAV looks superior to GTASA.

Folks are crying now, but they haven on clue what they are talking about.

GTAVI will look like damn near real life and it will sell millions........and guess what? WON'T BE 1080p 60fps!

More demanding, less frame, less res.

Some gamers legit need to play BOTH PC and console to fully understand what they are talking about.

Trust me bud...1080p 60fps isn't a challange to achieve on my PC as it factors merely turning features off.

Developers are choosing not to downgrade quality for mere numbers.

The Last Of Us and GTAV last gen very much proved that new demanding engines are what the people want, not dated looking crap JUST to run a setting MOST have no damn clue about. Most can't even see this difference, if you tell me its some sort of challenge, you already show you know little of what you speak lol.

Played TF2 at 100fps 1080p....(every turned off on lowest quality)

Sorry but it looks like trash at that setting. Gamers seem to be crying over a feature they likely barely even understand at the cost of.

Th3o3341d ago

@_-EDMIX-_

You're missing my point completely.

Also you're all over the place with your thought process.

If you're going to get technical then I would suggest you research how hardware works and what a dev kit is before you simply start comparing engines and settings.

slate913341d ago

It's funny people will say what their top video games are and then they are probably no where near these resolutions. Yet the same people are waving the resolution flag on today's comment sections

GarrusVakarian3341d ago (Edited 3341d ago )

That argument makes no sense and sounds to me like the kind of logic that only someone gaming at sub-800p would come up with. Lmao.

For example, let's say one of my favourite game of all time is GTA: San Andreas on PS2 (which it is)...that game ran at nowhere near any of these resolutions, but I wouldn't have cared back then because the resolutions we see today would never have been available to me back then as a console gamer.

But now that we're in an age where 1080p is becoming the norm for console gaming, and one of the consoles is considerably more powerful than the other, so if I have the choice to go with a version that looks slightly better...why wouldn't I?

Just like if I had the option to play San Andreas at a higher res than what I played it at, I would have. Not a hard concept to understand really. And the only people who say it doesn't matter each gen are the people who game on lower resolutions due to their console of choice being weaker. Last-gen the PS3 gamers were saying this, now it's the X1 gamers. The cycle continues.

Eiyuuou3341d ago

@Lukas_Japonicus

I'm a PC/PS4 gamer and I don't care about resolutions.

I won't even notice the difference between 1080p and 900p unless one would put two pictures next to each other.

Just keep the FPS steady, that's all I ask.

slate913341d ago (Edited 3341d ago )

@lukas
Thank you for turning my comment into a ps4 vs xbox one debate lol my goodness. I rest my case.

Unless you are 40 (and that wouldn't be a negative), you probably didn't know what resolution was back when you were playing San Andreas! Cause I sure didn't lol. Not when I was enjoying classics like zelda, gta, super smash 1 and melee, golden eye.
We need to get back to appreciating what we have, instead of bashing everything for what it doesn't have.

Saigon3341d ago

@slate91

I disagree with your last statement because during GTA: SA I was just out of college and I did care about resolution then. I wanted to experience the game at its highest resolution at the time. Though that was the case I wasn't a resolution whore. I only wanted certain games at its highest resolution, pretty much the games I truly cared about during that time. Mainly because I wanted to experience the games as they were intended. I remember trying to find the gold plated component cables so my PS2 would give the perfect connection.

Many Sony fans that gloat about 1080p in the average Xbox One articles are not PC gamers. Many PC gamers also have moved on to 1440 displays and better by this point. 1080p is old news for PC gamers since long before this generation launched.

I bought a large screen TV capable of 1080p, therefore I want my games to get as close to that resolution as possible.

"(generic PC gamer comments in a console article)"

I don't care about gaming on my PC and I don't intend to use a computer monitor to play my PS4. I can care about resolution yet not give a damn about 1440p.

If you really cared you would have bought a PC. Fact is most that say they care and only own consoles, are only using it to try and justify their arguments. While console only gamers argue over pixels, the entire PC community is just laughing at it. Framerate is far more important in gaming than resolution.

The red, yellow, and white cable. I couldn't care any less how the resolution looks on my 4K rated television because I'm the type of gamer that simply plays games. Sure I love great looking games, Battlefield 4 and Metal Gear Solid 5 Ground Zeroes look fantastic on my TV, and they both are sub 1080p. I really don't care about this whole resolution issue with the consoles. Nearly 2 years later, we're still getting articles on this crap. C'mon now, I'm sure you're tired of it too. /Truth

I would question why you have a 4k television if resolution doesn't matter to you?

resolution matters because people are paying $300-500 for these "next gen" machines. Consumers deserve better than a sub-par machine (goes for all consoles). Graphics is one of those categories and doesn't deserve to be ignored or thought down upon.
