Gannon Mannion of Lazy Gamer writes "Earlier yesterday morning I spotted a tweet that was asking the question as to why AAA games like Far Cry 4 and the like are still being sold at a premium on the older platforms.
Now to cover the common question in a paragraph: The games on consoles cost more than on PC because a portion of each sale goes to the hardware provider which is why the consoles can be sold at near cost or less than cost. This has been the standard console practice since time began and it works so there is little reason to believe it’s going to change anytime soon.
But the question is still valid if you think about it. The Xbox 360 and PS3 are nearing 10 years old and their R&D costs have easily been covered. As such the platform owners definitely have space to cut their licensing cost and start offering more competitive pricing on the older platforms."
Backward compatibility works for many games on newer consoles, but titles such as The Simpsons: Hit and Run have been left out.
From base building to swinging willies, here are the best survival games around, which include a couple of less than obvious picks.
It turns out that many moons ago, Microsoft once had its eye on the Sony published LittleBigPlanet series.
Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.
They're scum.
"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."
Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.
Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.
But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?
Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.
Unless the development costs for developing on the 360 or PS3 are heavily supplemented, then no. They are completely different architectures and require an extensive development process. Unless they are supplemented from either the Microsoft, Sony, or another source, the games will remain the same price for a few years.
All games all platforms should be cheaper.
If they are 2 years or older they should already be $30 or cheaper and if they aren't then they are a rip off.
Retail shops really should continue doing cheap and affordable bundles deals/or a mix and match deal as per customer ( as long as the price point is still close to the retail shops' advert ) requests with the older consoles to attract sales.
I think the hardware and games should become cheaper. Still because the architecture of the PS3 and XBox 360 are different from the new 8th Gen consoles, it probably still costs a small mint to make these games for them. This is why these games still cost $60. Still more of the games being released on last gen and current gen systems aren't even worth $60, because half the time, they aren't even completed. Everytime I buy a new game for any of these systems, there's always an immediate patch update. So not only do you have to install the game, but you have to wait for the patch to be installed as well. Developers are making it a habit of releasing unfinished games. If they are going to do that on last gen systems, they should reduce the price.
