FF baby, this game alone justifies a ps3 purchase.

thesummerofgeorge5798d ago

Final Fantasy is among others, the number 1 reason I buy a new Playstation everytime. Looks incredible... The only thing I'm not sure of is (sorry if it sounds sexist) the female protagonist. As a male it might be harder to relate to a female character. But it's way too early to know anything, who knows what characters you'll play through out the game. Super stoked for this game, and unlike too many next gen games, you know this one won't be beat in one weekend.

ThatArtGuy5798d ago

Um, you don't relate to Samus Aran, Lara Croft, or any of the women from Resident Evil?

Can't be that hard.

thesummerofgeorge5797d ago

It's an opinion, not something you can argue with me about. And no I don't relate to lara croft. It was merely a point, sometimes in games like final fantasy if you can't relate to the character or feel where they're coming from it can make the experience less enjoyable (not necessarily saying that's the case here)... That's MY opinion, not yours.

Meh, it's alright I suppose but I still don't like the Si-fish theme to it. I like the look and feel of part 9 and will always hold it as the best of the series in my opinion. I would love it if Square ever went back to that style on the ps3.

muddygamesite5798d ago

ok. lets send them an email and tell them to stop making 13, start from scratch and make it look like the previous ones.

eagle215798d ago

Do you know that every game is NOT for YOU. FF 9 is over. They will never go backwards unless it's a spin off. Just go buy something else when the world is playing Final Fantasy XIII. :)

chanto235798d ago

Who the fvck are you kid????!!!! you keep talking sh1t every time something good comes up on the PS3...get your stupid ass comments to the open zone or even better get the fvck out of the PS3 threads. You are the worst kind of fanboy...the ones that don't admit it...go play your 360 or wii if you even know how to play at all...

hack64645798d ago

*cough* TROLL *cough* GO BACK TO THE OPEN ZONE KID *cough* Sorry bout that almost choked on my own spit.

juuken5798d ago

I hate to say this but...you're annoying.

Rick Astley5798d ago (Edited 5798d ago )

Nice wishlist but I don't care for online play. Focus on the single player experience. XIII is shaping up to be the best in the series and it's being developed by the teams that made VII and X. =)

Silogon5798d ago

I hope they don't tack on online play to this thing. That's going to signify the end of RPGs as we know them. Why even have one anymore, they'll just become MMO's now. Lame.

Rick Astley5798d ago (Edited 5798d ago )

I agree. They're working on another MMO so I say leave the online play for the MMO, XIII doesn't need it. Besides, I don't like MMO's.

fenderputty5798d ago (Edited 5798d ago )

online play wouldn't necessarily make it and MMO though. When I think MMO, I think massive time sink in order to gain one level. I see the need for a party to do missions and gain good XP. Adding an online component to your average single player RPG could be something totally different.

Here's what got me though, have I missed something,

"Unreal Technology (Square Enix has licensed the Unreal engine) to complement the game's beautiful graphics."

I thought they were using an engine built from the ground up? By the way ... I know it's a wish list.

INehalemEXI5798d ago (Edited 5798d ago )

That MMO is not an FF title though. If said MMO was a new FFMMO I would agree. I want some FF online. You can tell that FF13 will be the MGS4 of its genre. Its SE's pride and joy right now. Versus looks to be great. Online will help with the withdraws after beating FF13, and entertain till Versus releases.

I believe...

FF13 and Versus use Crystal Tools Engine.
Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery use Unreal Engine 3.

Usually previews have some kind of information about the game that is being previewed. This doesn't. As mentioned above, it's a wish list.

SUP3R5798d ago

Exactly!
This isn't a preview at all and shouldn't be labeled as one including the 'plus video' at the end cuz it's the same old video from earlier this year.
This really pissed me off.
Previews should have NEW hands-on information.
Bunch of BS this story is.

Harry1905798d ago (Edited 5798d ago )

I'm not too hot with the way it's going. I don't want it to turn into an action-rpg. And WTH Gamepro,no hands-on and still a preview?

And what do I care about online play and support. This seems so odd. Is this really FF?
Squaresoft is dead, long live Square Enix.
Don't mess around with the game please.

Rick Astley5798d ago (Edited 5798d ago )

I wanted it to be an action RPG but it is turn-based. It'll be the most fast paced turn-based combat system ever made for a Final Fantasy game and from I hear it will look very cinematic. Think Advent Children. I'm not really sure what to expect but we'll understand how it works when they FINALLY decide to show it. The series needs to evolve and I personally loved Final Fantasy XII for the changes they made. Some people hated the gambit system but I loved it.

Edit: I'm not rick rolling anybody right now. Final Fantasy XIII will have a very fast paced ATB battle system. Do you guys visit finalfantasyxiii.net at all? http://www.finalfantasyxiii...

Condoleezza Rice5798d ago

At this point,I find myself more interested in White Knight Chronicles and Team ICOs upcoming game more so than FF13,this can all change though with a new video or two from Square.

Harry1905798d ago (Edited 5798d ago )

Rick-Roll me?

Edit:(I was trying to make a joke,nevermind)

INehalemEXI5798d ago (Edited 5798d ago )

I remember reading somewhere that FF13's Battle system is similar to FF12's and FF13 Versus is action rpg.

Poirot95798d ago

I totally agree with you about 12 being pretty good and about the series need to evolve. I am a absolutely DIEHARD final fantasy fan, but I must admit that the new non-turn based combat system featured in 12, though radically different from previous iterations, was a marked improvement. I think one of the main reasons that 12 will go down as one of the more mediocre final fantasies (so still pretty awesome) is the story and, more specifically, the characters. The voice acting was average at best and, aside from Balthier, there really weren't any overly likeable characters. Still, the gambit system and the ability to see your enemies before engaging them (even the giant bosses) was an interesting and welcome improvement. At least that's my two cents.

The 7 Best Final Fantasy Characters: Unveiling the Legends

While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.

220°

The older it gets, the more I respect Final Fantasy XIII

Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."

Einhander1972141d ago

FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.

I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.

I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.

Nyxus141d ago

I always liked this game, and I agree, a rerelease for current gen would be nice.

Shane Kim140d ago (Edited 140d ago )

Gotta take off the nostalgia glasses. It's the worst FF. Shiva as a bike, I mean come on.

Elda140d ago

Shiva as a bike is strange but saying FFXIII is the worst FF is not at all a fact, that's simply your opinion.

Terry_B139d ago

*One of the 3 equally bad FF's

DivineHand125140d ago (Edited 140d ago )

When I got my series X a year ago, I bought FF13 for nostalgia reasons but ended up being disappointed. When I first played it around the time it launched, I didn't have a lot of experience with final fantasy games, so I enjoyed it. Fast forward to when I played it again, I found that the game had many unnecessary filler moments instead of just giving us meaningful content.

The game is also very linear and a quote on the article said it best. "It is like a sewage pipe that leads to the ocean until it opens up on Grand Pulse."

The story didn't make much sense either and I believe it is my mistake as I played the FF7 remake on PS5 prior which is a night and day difference in terms of pacing, storytelling and likeable characters even though cloud is aloof.

FinalFantasyFanatic140d ago (Edited 140d ago )

Probably was a mistake to play any of the golden era FFs first (e.g. FF6 through FF10), it makes it harder to enjoy some of the FFs that aren't as good. I think FF12 was where major issues with the series started becoming apparent, and it just got worse from there.

FinalFantasyFanatic140d ago (Edited 140d ago )

I didn't really care for it that much, the only saving grace was that it had a better story than 15 (overall it was better than 15) and possibly 12, and even then, you had to read some of it through primers, like reading a book. Plus the battle system was reasonably fun for what it was, even if it was more the spectacle that was exciting for me (e.g. summoning). And to be fair, the 13 trilogy got better with every games, I still don't like Snow though.

Gamingsince1981139d ago

Ff13 is only good if you haven't played a ff before, or any other games that are decent for that matter.

-Foxtrot139d ago

It is in fact no way the best Final Fantasy game, it's one of the worst

Linear corridors, Cutscene, Fight, Cutscene...rinse and repeat

Dialogue and characters are pretty bad, especially Lightning as the main FF hero, they literally said they tried to make a "Female Cloud" and they failed.

Story was pretty awful

I could go on

I think the only alright thing that came from the game was the music.

Elda139d ago

That's not a fact that's your personal opinion. The game sold 11 million copies between its 2009 release up until 2014 including critically reviewed as an 8 out of 10 or an 80 out of 100. The game does have some issues but it's not at all a fact as one of the worst FF games.

-Foxtrot139d ago

Elda

Not just mine mate

A large majority

So….

Traecy139d ago

N4G commenters such as yourself aren't the majority. The game was well received.

i liked the game alot but i didnt like how they handled the terminology.

i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.

but i always loved the music and how it looked. the battle system wasnt too bad either.

but i like 13-2 more :)

i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy

Eonjay139d ago

Xbox kinda did. Besides the video files of course which are still best on PS3 due to bluray.

Snookies12141d ago

XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!

Eonjay139d ago

Totally agree. FF 13 was okay but 13-2 is my favorite FF game ever.

shinoff2183141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.

Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5

KillerB140d ago

my favorite jrpg trilogy ever
