MGS4: Kojima wants the PS3 pad to rumble

In an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine, Hideo Kojima said, "The controls in MGS3 got a little complex, so you'll have a little more direct control in MGS4. That said, I miss the rumble and even now I hope it will come back."

Don't hold you breath as Sony got stung badly with the rumble technology it used in the past. As far as how MGS4 will use the motion-sensing technology, Kojima added, "We can't say how we'll use the motion-sensing functionality specifically but we'll use it for sure." Do you think he means they don't know yet?

Will sony get to actually see a release of this game on it's system? Or will it go to the power of "X"?

I totally agree with you, I miss the rumble too. But I know some other consoles that happen to have it.

But I'm guessing there will be a collectors edition with a rumble-enabled controller.

Seriously, we don't see anymore previews anymore, wanna know why?
The last 2 showing of played demo's went horrible and looked it as well, and now I think Hideo is trying to rework some things as R-FOM had to just to be playable on the ps3. So, I'll say that MGS4 wont be seen again for another 5 to 6 months, and that's just in demo form. Release date will probably now be xmas 07. Could of been playable on the Xbox 360 months ago. Oh' well.

I can't believe that guy. He obviously has no clue what he's talking about. Sony didn't get "stung" for using rumble. Sony stung themselves for refusing to license the technology. Microsoft knew Immersions patent for rumble predated the patent that the console makers were basing their rumble controllers on, so they did the smart thing and paid the license fee. Sony was the only one stupid enough to take this thing to court with a weak case and naturally, they lost. Sony can add rumble back into their controllers any time they like, just pay the license fee, but they won't do that because to do that they would "lose face" and losing face is more important to them than losing sales. If Kojima misses rumble so much, he will be more than welcome to bring his franchises over to the Microsoft side.

Nope, don't miss it at all. And the weight difference is only noticable for the first hour or so. It's perfectly comfortable after a few days of playing, and the sensitivity/accuracy of the tilt has allayed my initial fears.

The rumble just exasperated the fear of knowing that whatever was coming into the house and up the stairs was BIG, ...really, really, BIG!

I was forced to take cover (fighting elite guards, with the bows, no less) on the top of the stairs and couldn't see what was coming for me. But I could sure hear it and boy oh boy could I feal it!

It was one of those moments in videogames where you are truely transported into the moment and all of the intense emotions and (in this case; fears) transcend the fact that you are just playing a video game. It becomes very, very REAL, ...or at least "realistic".

When the moment had ended; I looked back and reflected on what had just happened and one of the first things that came to my mind (other than just "WOW") was just how important rumble really is to the game experience.

FTW, the bezerker is a blind female locust that senses its environment through sound and smell. So basically in one level of gears of war, there is a lose bezerker and you have to navigate through the level and depending on how much the controller is rumbling you have an idea of how close the bezerker is. It the controller is shaking then the bezerker is probablt right behind you, and ur 2 seconds away from getting smacked.

Well there is strong rumor from the EGM camp stating Konami is strongly pushing Kojima to release on the 360 the same day as the ps3. MGS is costing alot of money to make and it only makes sense for bigger profit. By the time this game comes out, they'll be around 1 million ps3s vs. 12 million 360s.

and they paid out.simple as that.then they bought into the company(immersion).sony believes they made the rumble feature themselves.where was immersion during the ps1 era?that's my question?i didn't hear them complaining or lining up for money then.but once sony was successful,then they came out of the woodwork to sue to see if they could get some money.companies like immersion are "patent trolls."they sit on a patent,don't make anything really,or not that much money.then when someone improves on the idea,they sue for damages.now they want sony to forgive them and let them make money on their system.

as for meta gear,rumble could be in the controller for the future.sony has redesigned the controller from ps1 to death.there is obviously a way around the patent.nintendo is not getting sued.i wonder why?because it has built in rumble.it's a wait and see thing.gt hd was pushed back.why? gran turismo 1 was the first game to really push the rumble feature.

i miss it sometimes,but it doesn't kill the fun without it.it's weird holding the controller to take a shot in nba 2k7.but it's fun.it's too sensative in motorstorm,but they don't give you the option to tweak in the demo.but rumble IS ONLY ONE WAY TO CREATE IMMERSION.AND MOST PC FORCE FEED BACK CONTROLLERS ARE BETTER.so no complaints here.WAIT AND SEE.

rumble would cost a lot for sony, and they dont wanna spend a lot of money for rumble motors

rumble is supported in the ps3, its just not in the pad. logitech wheel support full force feedback for Ridge Racer 7, and i expect other third party pads to also put rumble in their controllers

controllers from ps2.the court ruling was for sony to stop selling controllers and i think some games or something.sell an adapter like the memory card one.i wouldn't see how a court could rule in immersion's favor when sony would just be selling a device for "backwards compatability(WINK)" with ps2 games.you just have to find the controllers or buy some from logitech as they have the license for rumble.

I just recently beat Half-life 2 and think it was one of the best games I've ever played in my life. My hand's a little cramped from having it in the "eagle claw" position on the keyboard for so many hours but I am happy to report that a lack of rumble did not in anyway take away from the experience and joy that this game brought to me. I'm not saying that rumble is not a plus, I'm just saying that not having it is not a negative. I just turn the volume up and let the bass rumble. Can't say I missed rumble being as immersed in the game as I was.

i stopped using sony's controller a long time ago.i use logitechs wireless controller with rumble.yes,you would lose sixaxis and turning on the system,but it isn't required to have fun.it's just an option to those who spent money already on previous controllers.that they can use them just like BC and playing old games.the motorstorm demo is fun,but the motion sensing isn't.but since it's not the final game where i can tweak the controls,i won't bag it.it is fun in nba 2k7.actually taking a shot with the controller is funny.turning on the system is cool from the controller,but doesn't add to the fun.it's just a feature.we should have the option just like BC.hopefully kojima comes up with a way around it.like moving the controller to target or leaning around corners or rolling left or right on the ground.actually doing the "inch worm move" with the controller by moving it forward and back.rumble is cool but isn't everything.he just has to think like a gamer would with the controller.

Nuff said and this ain't the only time the game rumble during intense moments. If Hideo mentions it or any other Developer then it is everything in video games when it comes to emerging you to the game. Developers Play game alos and know what they want to accomplish so don't gives us that bullsh1t. Busting of Guns without rumble feels naked. Like when the battery dies while playing it feels like the game don't work anymore.

i didn't say that i didn't miss it,but that it is not needed in all games.it's only a feature that helps some parts of games.when i play all the games from atari,not played,when i PLAY(means still doing it) ALL THE GAMES from atari all the way to playstation 3,xbox 360 and WII.only some games it made a difference.firing thrusters in an airplane,playing a racing game and feeling the road,explosions,large bosses walking,etc.but 80 to 90 percent of all (ALL) the games i play don't require rumble.so don't try to twist my own words for your own purposes.not all games need it.some games use it wrong.or the rumble malfuctions on some games where you have to turn it off.it's cool but doesn't create "FUN".GOOD GAMEPLAY CREATES FUN.AGAIN,GOOD GAMEPLAY CREATES FUN.it just adds to the gameplay that was already there.LIKE 8+1.9 is a bigger number than 8,but not by much.i plan on waiting because we don't know what sony will do.the ps1 controller turned into:the analog con,the dual shock,the dual shock 2 with pressure sensative buttons,the concept con,then the sixaxis.who's to say what sony will do next.it constantly evolves.
