Why I’m scared that Final Fantasy XV will suck.

"For the past 8 years Final Fantasy Versus/XV has been my most anticipated game, not for any given year but for all of them. Then came TGS 2014 and with it a glorious beautiful new trailer, and with it my heart soared. But then with a few words from the New Director it sank."-Takuchat.com

How about we wait and see what it's like to play for ourselves, before getting all discouraged?

KingKelloggTheWH3526d ago

While I do agree that we need more information, I still think it is best to get them knowing that this is not a good direction as soon as possible.

bouzebbal3526d ago

i'm also afraid it will suck just like 13 did.
I really dont like the fighting system in it and the teleporting thing in it. We all want a big JRPG to give us the magic feel from old days when we started playing whatever FF.

vishmarx3526d ago

this game has nothing similar to 13
and not even 13 had bad combat

user55757083526d ago

I'm not afraid that it will suck in fact it shouldn't at all. However I'm afraid it will be very mediocre and hold my hand the way XIII did. Mediocre will still sell, a game that sucks may not. I'm also afraid that they will then come out with FFXV-2 and -3.

I hope...it sucks. Only because then maybe just maybe we can get the true next generation final fantasy title on an HD console that has a battle system like FF6-9, 10 or 10-2.

I'm tired of simplified nonsense (autobattle, story level caps, constant tutorials). Make a decent rpg for the HD consoles and/or WiiU. Bravely default shows that they still know how now it just needs to happen.

Mankey3526d ago

I must say I agree with KingKellogg. It's hard to say for sure, but some of the comments that have come from Tabata have been worrying. The two things that stand out in particular were about the car and more specifically about the combat.

I don't you about you all, but I have no interest in playing a game where the only skill that is required is how long you are able to hold down a single button, while the game plays itself.

So here's what I propose;

We go on Twitter, Facebook, Email, whatever and make sure that Square/Tabata/The FFXV team, understand that the we have no problem if this is something that is optional, but we are all not interested in a one button combat system.

-Foxtrot3526d ago

Yeah excactly

People can flaunt the "Wait and see" card all they like but the same happened with Final Fantasy 13

Back then people heard about the changes to the formula and each time the director opened his mouth it got worse and worse. People who were blindly hyped told those people to shut up and that they were being ridiculous. In the end guess who was right.

Look I'm excited for this game but with the new changes and the arrogant director making his mouth go the game seems like it's going to be another FF13 in the of it's hype.

I think Nomura was pushed out. After Square made Versus a main FF title they probably told Nomura to add stuff to make it like FF13 in SOME areas, anyway after seeing the game he's worked on become not what he envisioned he left to work on KH3.

Are people are expecting combat like DMC or Bayonetta? I mean seriously, this is a JRPG, not a Hack n Slash game. I pretty sure he didn't mean it literally that you'll only utilize "ONE" button. I'm expecting combat similar to dark souls where you have your light and heavy attacks. Since the combat isn't as slow as a souls game, you'll probably do dodging rather than blocking. Plus you have your magic attack as well.

KingKelloggTheWH3526d ago

People were expecting combat like it had initially had, much like Kingdom Hearts, not holding down a button.

People wanted to do the fights themselves, not have auto battles.

bouzebbal3526d ago

if no auto fights then bring back Gambits system from FF12 for secondary characters.

joab7773526d ago

It's b/c you care, and the last 3 were average. Thats it.

Godmars2903526d ago (Edited 3526d ago )

The example(s) of FF13.

And its not so much "be afraid", its just that I'm not buying it. Square seems unable to realize when they've made a mistake, unless like in the case of the first version of FF14 its catastrophic, so why should I indulge them much less give them my money?

Rainbowcookie3526d ago

Exactly ^^ http://n4g.com/news/1592826... seems different to the according to the internet bashfest on the UNRELEASED game that nobody in the west (that I know of played)

P.S if it sucks don't buy it...solves a lot of your problems

Magicite3526d ago

Im scared too, but this time I have high hopes, because Toriyama havent touched this gem yet.

Godmars2903526d ago

Yeah. We've just gone from a female character being apparently integral to a footnote.

BassMan1253526d ago

You don't have to be afraid. Based on all the information recently, it already sucks.

Roccetarius3526d ago

Quite honestly, it sounds like the one in charge has no clue what to do.

nX3526d ago

Noone in the upper management of Square has a clue, these guys are high as fuzz for years now.

-Foxtrot3526d ago

He's only ever worked on handheld games

I mean you have some well respected guy like Nomura being replaced by a nobody.

It's like a nobody replacing Kojima if he made a new MGS game

Bennibop3526d ago

The reality is that FF has been diluted down for years. Not a big fan of the more action focused jrpg and miss turn based games of old such as FF7 and Shining Force 1-3.

Roccetarius3526d ago

But FF7 wasn't turn based, it was ATB.

Bennibop3526d ago

it was but it more similar to a turn based system than it is now.

Roccetarius3526d ago (Edited 3526d ago )

Obviously the disagrees don't know the difference between the battle systems... ¨

Kalkano, no it isn't. It stands for Active Time Battle. As soon as you put a timer on the combat, it's no longer turn based. You're forcing the player to make a move, based on a timer.

3526d ago
Kurisu3526d ago

The battle system isn't the be all and end all of the game. What about the open world? The dynamic weather? The day and night cycle? Dungeons? Story? Exploration?

DragonKnight3526d ago

Are you kidding? You're effectively arguing for Square-Enix's newest idea of taking the player out of the game. They did it with FFXIII and I thought it was just Toriyama that was the problem, but this is a company wide issue. They want the player to have as little actual involvement as possible and it shows.

If SE want to take players out of the game, then they should just start making Japanese Heavy Rain.

kingdomtriggers3526d ago

"Note that the game apparatus according to the present invention can cast various attacks based on the correspondence between positional conditions and attack methods set by the player even when the same operating button is pressed;however, it is also possible, for example, to switch, BY A PLAYER'S OPERATION, between a game mode to which the present invention is applied and in which various attacks can be cast based on the correspondence between positional conditions and attack methods set by the player, AND A NORMAL GAME MODE IN WHICH VARIOUS ATTACKS CAN BE CAST BY THE PLAYER BY PRESSING A PLURALITY OF BUTTONS."

I read through the patent for FFXV and found this deep into it. It seems like this "baby mode" can be switched off and a conventional normal mode can be used instead. Made a N4G account just to show this comment because I think it really might be our closest thing to a confirmation until...you know...an actual confirmation

kingdomtriggers3526d ago

Idk whats up with the disagree...
If anything this is the most productive comment on this entire article but whatever...
Again its not a confirmation, but I think it might be damn near the closest thing we get until jump festa

jambola3526d ago

I think the biggest problem with information is that many articles tend to contradict each other, it's quite confusing

kingdomtriggers3526d ago

...but I got this quote directly from square Enix's legal patent on the games combat. So it's not some dumb journalist trying to clickbait. All I can say for sure is that in this patent for the games combat there IS a normal mode. Idk why square would include this quote in a legal document if it was fake lol. But then again square is crazy....

jambola3526d ago

@kingdomtriggers
oh, i wasn't talking about you're comment, i just meant in general how it can be hard to know which information and rumours are true at this point for some

Potnoodle9993526d ago

Thanks mate! We need more productive people like you on this site, hopefully square will confirm this soon though... :)

Is it true it's just Auto battles??? Some say all you do is press the X button. I thought it was suppose to be like Kingdom Hearts?

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled33d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog165d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake165d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic164d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan165d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman165d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator165d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno165d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior165d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake165d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
