Let's Talk About How Short Transistor Is

8CN: Supergiant Games really hit on something special with their first game Bastion, but their follow up, Transistor, has been out for almost two weeks now. I've only gotten a chance to play through the game once, and it took me about six hours. I liked the game, I did, but I think we need to talk about the play time.

Extremely misleading title...

Anyway, I also hate when that happens, but sometimes it can be hard to find a good middle ground.

Good length for the price, better than watering down the game.

Played this straight after Child of Light and I want more focused games like these, enjoyed them much more than most bloated so called "AAA" games

styferion3620d ago

That's the problem with narrative games if they have a great world, people always wanting to explore the world more, while if the developer open up the world it wouldn't be as narrative as they want it to.

incendy353620d ago

I only made it two hours in. Not for me, was so bored. I felt that way with Bastion as well. I guess constant narration and repetitive gameplay just isn't my thing.

NewMonday3620d ago

This is the problem with a generation used to pick up and shoot, the gameplay is great in this game, you just need more strategy and use "planing", it's an RPG so how you set up is important.

One of favorite games and a joy to play, RPG developers should learn from it.

I love RPG's and strategy games. I thought the combat was great in this game. I'm still really disappointed though, I'm finding the game to be really boring. It is nowhere near as great as the reviews are making it out to be. The world just feels empty and sterile in my opinion and the story is a little meh so far. I thought the giant worm/tail thing was cool though. I like the beach place to with the challenges.

NewMonday3619d ago

The story is subtle not elaborate, full of symbolism, it's a type of story telling some may not like, I thought it was well done in a surreal way.

HarryMasonHerpderp3619d ago

I get that it's supposed to be subtle. Reading through all of the text though can become a real drag. I dunno it's just not what I was expecting.
I'm hoping there's some twists to come and stir things up a bit.

repetitive, you defined every new game these days. this is not a shoot or a game that new explosions every scene to make you feel special.

and the other guy, stay away from every game that you you have to read. i hope devs is taking notes because if it was me i would keep my games thats like this off of consoles. no shadowrun for you.

how did yall like child of light?

incendy353619d ago

My favorite genre is RPG, I just got bored of this one. The movement felt so stiff and clunky which made the repetitiveness really stand out. I don't know, I wanted to like it.

coolasj3620d ago

If it was any longer, I would've never finished it. Lots of fill in the blanks for that game though.

joab7773620d ago

Thats the downside to small teams. I wonder if Transistor was their entire vision or if it would hav been longer if they had more resources.

bennissimo3620d ago

I'm still hooked on Transistor.

The second playthrough opens up crazy possibilities, since you obtain duplicates of every function. Worth it, imo.

Malphite3619d ago

Me too. Got it for the PS4. This game is crazy good. I can't believe people are complaining about it's length. Especially cause it has replay value.

bennissimo3617d ago

The Process in 2nd playthrough can be hella hard, as can some of the backdoor challenges.
