Doom 4 beta won’t be available on all platforms

If you remember, almost two months ago Bethesda announced that everyone who would pre-order Wolfenstein: The New Order game would get an exclusive key to the beta test of another Bethesda’s project - Doom 4.
Wolfenstein: The New Order release is planned for the current and next-gen consoles, as well as for PC, so it would be logical to think that Doom 4 beta will be held on the same platforms. But as it turned out, it isn’t true. Recently the project’s publisher - Bethesda company - has announced that Doom 4 beta test will be available only on three platforms - PS4, Xbox One and PC.

No problems for me then, Doom 4. I've been waiting for you :)

thereapersson3688d ago (Edited 3688d ago )

Since I most likely won't be able to upgrade my PC any time soon, I'll be getting it on PS4.

FlyingFoxy3688d ago

Well i just bought a 512gb Samsung 840 Pro SSD, so i will be well set for all my games and ready for many more in the future.

But, still unsure how this new Doom will turn out.. so i'm just going to stay half optimistic on this and not get my hopes up.

I am sorry not trying to be a jerk, but how will a SSD help with running Doom 4? I am assuming you got a solid rig, as otherwise you have really fast storage.

Also, on a more important note how do you like life with that Samsung EVO 840? I got a 256gb Vertex 4, and wanted to get a 1TB SSD. I know they offer the 840 in a 1Tb id assume same performance.

Thanks,

solar3688d ago

Loading times. No performance gains.

LightofDarkness3688d ago

Well, it uses id Tech 5, which is heavily reliant on megatexturing, which streams the texture from storage. If you're running an SSD, you should see much less "pop-in" or delayed texture loading/streaming.

@solar

"I am sorry not trying to be a jerk, but how will a SSD help with running Doom 4? I am assuming you got a solid rig, as otherwise you have really fast storage. "

Like I said fast storage = fast read/write speeds. I understand that part.

Thanks

FlameBaitGod3688d ago (Edited 3688d ago )

Actually, it does help in performance

Once upon a time, i was looking forward to another Doom game. Now it's just a ''meh'' thing tbh, because the expectations are low.

nucky643688d ago

not sure about doom4 - didn't really care for doom3...i hope #4 is good though.

SITH3688d ago

Me either. Doom took a nose dive with 3.

bloop3688d ago

I must be in the minority of people that enjoyed it judging by everyone's comments here. I thought it was great!! I was such a huge Doom fan I used to imagine at the time what a "current" doom game might have been like even before it was announced. Then when it was revealed it was exactly what I had imagined it would be!! I'm obviously one of the few that really enjoyed it and am looking forward to 4.

nucky643688d ago

agreed - i thought the same thing.

Yui_Suzumiya3688d ago

Been waiting a zillion years for this. Hell, I waited 10 years for Doom 3 and another 5 before I finally played it. Whenever Doom 4 finally drops, I'll be all over it.

What's cool is you can see some of the animations they kept and revised for 2016.

nirwanda1235d ago

When you strip everything back you can really see how great the animation is.
It's amazing how far games have come.

glenn19791235d ago

For me its always interesting to see some prototype of a game of something else and see the final product on why they go another direction in the end

RaidenBlack1235d ago

My favorite is the MGS:Rising vs MGR:Revengeance.(I preferred the Kojima's one)
Another interesting one is Splinter Cell Conviction Concept vs Retail

spicelicka1235d ago

I don't see what is "COD-like" here? Just because there's 2 seconds footage with ironsight?

Concertoine1235d ago

The devs were openly going for the cinematic shooter style that was popular in the years this was developed. COD-like Doom was pretty much the pitch.

Fluke_Skywalker1235d ago

Looks pish, no wonder it got canned.

Every Doom Game Ever

Whilst the FPS genre has since had a tonne of fantastic franchises, such as Quake, Unreal and Serious Sam, Doom remains at the top of the pile, and has one of the best comeback stories in video game history. Doom is almost 30 years running, and has even bled into other mediums such as feature films and novels. As it has been going for so long, there have been a large number of entries in the series, and there are probably a few you never played. This is every Doom game ever.

Why Development Stopped On DOOM 4

According to ID Executive Producer Marty Stratton, DOOM 4 was scrapped because "it was more 'DOOM' in name than really anything."

Dabigsiebowski1537d ago

Because they wanted to punish John Carmack.

AK911537d ago

From reports apparently Doom 4 was shaping up to be COD but set in the DOOM universe, honestly really glad that didn’t happen.

Profchaos1537d ago

Pretty much they wanted to make it to meet what was selling at the time and in doing so it lost the soul of what makes doom doom.

MadLad1537d ago

Even Doom 3 did that, despite being a solid game all the same. Not mind blowing, in my opinion, but a solid title.

Segata1537d ago

Because it was Call of Duty with generic demons on Earth. Looked worse than the 2009 Wolfenstein. They made the right call.
