I know there are a bunch of priorities they need to fix/update, but I really want to see how many hours I've sunk into my games. Steam, 3DS, and I think even Xbox One does this.

JoGam3749d ago

On the PS3 the famous update was 2.0. Maybe we'll see big changes at Update 2.0

combatcash3749d ago

Just let me play media from my pc and I'll be a happy camper, that's all I need everything else is gravy.

Qdog3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

I'm hoping for mouse support in the browser. My K400r keyboard works great, but because of no mouse support, the track pad doesn't work yet. The dualshock 4 has the Wii nunchuck mode for typing but its just not the same. I'm asking for something simple that is well within the capabilities of the console. The browser needs expansion and html5 support should be on the list for improvement. Other than that a YouTube native app with browser click out support would be awesome. The PS4 should it ever nail down multimedia function, online functionality, and aftermarket hardware support would make a great htpc for the living room. It can already play games and looking at the sum of all parts like x86-x64 support on out of order execution CPUs, and how they are trying so many new things an Arm CPU + 256mb ddr3 for OS tasks, GDDR5 system memory with a CPU/GPU attached directly to each other and both have access to the unified fast ram pool, which has gobs of bandwidth for system memory, not common unless you use servers with Rhambus XDR. It was a great decision putting a full desktop HD7870 in this beast with two CUs disabled as well as extra compute resources not found on the desktop version(ACE Cores) leads me to believe that amazing things are in store. Especially considering the amazing games they pulled off last gen with about 1/16 of what the PS4 has. Look how good the launch games are doing. I think it really shows that Sony went around and picked the brain of many a developer to make the PS4.

DeadlyFire3749d ago

I am hoping touchpad support for browser and XMB navigation.

nunley333749d ago

And Fw 2.4 that added trophies and in-game xmb was huge and i'll say it's bigger.

AliTheSnake13748d ago (Edited 3748d ago )

All of what people mentioned, plus:
-Themes, i got sick of the blue theme and music, you can't even change colors. And also profile themes, kinda like the Vita.

-Ingame transparent menu. When I'm in the middle of a game and want to check a message,or what a friend is playin, I want the menu to be transparent like ps3. (If you go to battlelog on BF4, go to any player list and press the appropriate button to check his profile, it will be a transparent background)

-Friends list? i would like to put my friends in lists, and have the ability to enable/disable seeing feeds from a certain list, and online/offline notifications. For example, if I have one thousand PSN friends, I only want to know the feeds for a number of them (close friends/people I always play with) and know when they go offline and online.
-Pause downloads.
These four features (3 of them were on PS3), would make my gaming life so much easier.

EDIT: I love the suggestion for Universal stats, to see how long you played a certain game or app and compare it.

Oh_Yeah3749d ago

You actually want to see how much life you have wasted playing a game? Lol. I really don't care, might actually make some of us feel bad, plus most games come with that in their menus, they did last gen anyway.

Kivespussi3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

If the number makes someone feel bad maybe it should be time for them to think about that.
But it would be good feature to have.

KwietStorm_BLM3749d ago

I'm not gonna feel bad about something I enjoy doing. It's not cocaine, it's just videogames. And yea, most games have stats in their respective menus, which means I have to load up every game individually to see them.

dodgemoose3749d ago

gosh kwietstorm, how dare Sony make you load up every game individually to see how much time you've spent on them. i take it this is a regular occurrence?

FamilyGuy3749d ago

Some Save game files on PS3 said the hours played, maybe some on PS4 do as well?

badz1493749d ago

I just wanna see my trophies when I'm offline. is it NOT saving the trophy data in the console like the PS3 and Vita?

Blaze9293749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

i been saying this for a long time and people keep striking me with disagrees. The PS4 and Xbox One are WAY too similar in what you CANNOT do offline. Achivements/Trophies being one of them.

I honestly think Sony was also planning to go the DRM route for games but as soon as MS got the hate, they changed that immediately. Doesn't make sense otherwise why some of the most basic features from PS3, we can't do offline on PS4 all a sudden.

BoriboyShoGUN3748d ago

You can still get trophies off line. When you do reconnect your trophies will update!

badz1493748d ago

@BoriboyShoGUN

I know THAT as I've always been playing my PS4 offline anyway because I'm using a tethered internet from my phone at home due to lack of phone line or fiber connection I can use so I can't have it tethered all the time.

I know I can earn them offline but I said "see" them while I'm playing offline.

@blaze

I can't see how the current PS4's trophies situation made you think that the PS4 was designed to be always online like the XbOne as it can easily be patched but I admit though that PS4's full features will only be available if you're online and I think Sony had said about it themselves before. but for them to not stopping me from playing my games while I'm offline, it's good enough already.

parentoftheyear3749d ago

II want tobe able to have my vita game on there. Constantly deleting and downloading over WiFi. Don't feel like shelling out $200 for a good sized memory card

Omar913749d ago

Im hoping for a major update before E3. I miss the video walkthroughs sony use to do when releasing a huge update.

Im interested for the next update:

Change color of background
Resume/pause feature
Mp3 support
Notification of friends signing on and off
Folder support
Share button bug fix
Option to turn off DS4
take control of friends "controller" feature
Auto sync trophies

wsoutlaw873749d ago

They will probably release one during e3

Bennibop3749d ago

Sony we're never shy about releasing firmware updates earlier in the life of the ps3, in fact people used to complain they were too frequent, but they did add a lot of functionality in dribs and drabs. I am sure the ps4 will be no different and then we will see a bigger update around e3

colonel1793749d ago

I want to be able to sort the tiles wherever I want instead of by "recent" use. And I want to be able to sort the way I want (by name, type, etc) everything in the library (and using folders too). With just that, I would be very happy.

Azmatik3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

@Omar91 "Option to turn off DS4" you can simply hold PS button down click adjust device - turn off device - dualshock4.

XisThatKid3749d ago

Actually I found out from extensive remote play use without a TV screen for so long. you can just hold the PS button down for like 10 secs or so and it'll just turn off.

Omar913749d ago

I should of been a little more specific sorry, i meant when watching netflix you cant turn off automatically you need to waiting 10 mins to until the controller turns off. When you turn of the controller from the settings it pauses the show

KwietStorm_BLM3749d ago

All a dat. And I also would REALLY love for them to give us the option to turn off the setting that asks who is using the device, every time it gets turned on, or at least set a default user. I'm the only user on my system, but if I turn off my headphones and turn them back on, it asks me in the middle of the damn game while I'm getting shot at, who's using it. C'mon.

Back-to-Back3749d ago

A better way to organize games should be their #1 priority. I hate having to slide across the screen.

JoGam3748d ago

Do you remember the guy who use to do the walkthroughs?

RealtorMDandDC3748d ago

There is an option to turn of the DS4.

iPad3749d ago

Hopefully they announce something at GDC. Sony can't let Microsoft get away with a huge update and not counter it.

It's basic Business 101

WeAreLegion3749d ago

I hate that I have to sign into a profile every time I turn the controller on. Can we disable that for Netflix, Hulu, etc.?

combatcash3749d ago

it only takes a second(literally) not a big deal really.

Thehyph3749d ago

It can be pretty annoying. The only work around is to increase the time before the controller turns itself off. Then it's an issue of battery life.

Omegasyde3748d ago

Profile "logins" should only happen when A) the console first turns on or B) if more than 1 controller is attached to the system.

WeAreLegion3748d ago

It is when everyone you're watching movies with complains about it. I have to keep the controller plugged it, so it doesn't turn off or die. Using my Wii U for Netflix for the past few weeks. God knows it's not busy.

3749d ago
ITPython3748d ago

What the PS4 desperately needs for watching movies, Netflix etc, is an official bluetooth remote like we have with the PS3. Then all the worries about using the controller and turning it off etc will be put to rest.

I don't even use my PS4 to watch movies because I got so used to my PS3 remote. Plus I find the systems menu UI for watching DVD's pretty unintuitive on the PS4 in comparison to the PS3. Not sure why they felt the need to change it so much, it was perfectly fine on the PS3.

Kiwi663748d ago (Edited 3748d ago )

but people only a few days ago complained for microsoft bringing one out even though people like using them

purp13m0nk3y3748d ago

I just use my TV remote to navigate around when not playing a game.

Works great while watching movies too as it has a pause, FF, RW, options buttons too.

Pretty sure any TV that supports control over HDMI will work like this.

FrankieADZ3748d ago

another way could be to add a media remote feature within the Playstation App or something. since you can navigate your PS4 using the app.

Miss_Vixen3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

It's wishful thinking for Sony to roll all of these feature in one single update, but I really do hope future updates comes with or enables these features
Ability to play MP3 formats, customization themes & background pictures, external hard drive support, youtube app, Pause/Resume, DLNA Media Server, friends notification when they're signed online & when the last time they've signed on, folder sorting option, support plus 3D Blu-Ray and regular DVD Upscaling.

Thehyph3749d ago

I think that's everything. Patch all of that up and then I only need GTA V for ps4 for when the girlfriend likes pretending to be a cab driver.

Also, I'm sure there are people who still don't know out there, but putting youtube.com/tv into the browser gives you the standard web app version of YouTube which looks just like the ps3 app. A native app is still very important to me though as I use YouTube daily.

Omegasyde3748d ago

Thanks Steve for the youtube URL!

Thehyph3748d ago

No problem. It even works with remote pairing for mobile devices as it's the same as the ps3 app. You can double tap the ps button to swap between it and games which would probably be useful to some. It also maintains some ability to run in the background if you wanted to hear audio only. I haven't tried it with a game, but it likes to keep playing while in system menus.
