What Would a Next-Gen Doom Game Be Like?

Hardcore Gamer: id Software’s challenge isn’t going to be making Doom 4 great, but making it great without compromising why the series was such a watershed of ideas for the first-person shooter genre.

If it's like Doom 1 then it will be epic

ChaosKnight3733d ago

That game is 15 years past its prime, though.

You know he means in gameplay right? Good game design never ages for me :)

4logpc3732d ago

Dooms design is timeless.

I would love to be like Doom 1.

However... people got lost in Killzone SF with a freaking prompt in the screen. Imagine dropping you in a huge place and don't explaining anything. Figure everything yourself. Unfortunately, times have changed and gamers are less patient.

If it is like Bioshock 1&2 it is already a plus. (that arrow that don't show the final point, but point to every single step you have to give)...

I hate the 'hand holding' approach games take today. I want to be playing the game instead of the game playing me.

Geekman3732d ago

It'd spell DOOM for COD! *Massive booing.*

dcj05243732d ago

1.Keep the same gameplay(DOOM 1&2
2.add crazy guns
3.MOD support for PC&Consoles
4.Add a insane nonsensical story and weird boss fights
5.Make the AI super smart
6. Take a note from DOOM 1&2 level design with tons of secrets and easter eggs
7. Let the multiplayer server settings be custom
8.Community generated maps (NO DLC)
Boom perfect game.

Allsystemgamer3732d ago

I'd be fine with doom 1 and 2 redone with exact same levels on a next gen engine to be honest lol

bjmartynhak3732d ago

I also would love the originals on the Vita. Duke Nukem 3D is coming and will be day one for me.

FlyingFoxy3732d ago

I don't want it to be a corridor scarefest like Doom 3, make it faster paced like the originals. Make the monsters look scary, a realistic cacodemon in Doom 1-2 style would look scary.

4-6 player co-op would be awesome too.

I could picture it being a great game, who knows how it will turn out though. Hopefully there's more interactivity with the environment than Doom 3 too, compared to HL2 it was lacking quite a bit there.

What's cool is you can see some of the animations they kept and revised for 2016.

nirwanda1237d ago

When you strip everything back you can really see how great the animation is.
It's amazing how far games have come.

glenn19791237d ago

For me its always interesting to see some prototype of a game of something else and see the final product on why they go another direction in the end

RaidenBlack1237d ago

My favorite is the MGS:Rising vs MGR:Revengeance.(I preferred the Kojima's one)
Another interesting one is Splinter Cell Conviction Concept vs Retail

spicelicka1237d ago

I don't see what is "COD-like" here? Just because there's 2 seconds footage with ironsight?

Concertoine1237d ago

The devs were openly going for the cinematic shooter style that was popular in the years this was developed. COD-like Doom was pretty much the pitch.

Fluke_Skywalker1237d ago

Looks pish, no wonder it got canned.

Every Doom Game Ever

Whilst the FPS genre has since had a tonne of fantastic franchises, such as Quake, Unreal and Serious Sam, Doom remains at the top of the pile, and has one of the best comeback stories in video game history. Doom is almost 30 years running, and has even bled into other mediums such as feature films and novels. As it has been going for so long, there have been a large number of entries in the series, and there are probably a few you never played. This is every Doom game ever.

Why Development Stopped On DOOM 4

According to ID Executive Producer Marty Stratton, DOOM 4 was scrapped because "it was more 'DOOM' in name than really anything."

Dabigsiebowski1539d ago

Because they wanted to punish John Carmack.

AK911539d ago

From reports apparently Doom 4 was shaping up to be COD but set in the DOOM universe, honestly really glad that didn’t happen.

Profchaos1539d ago

Pretty much they wanted to make it to meet what was selling at the time and in doing so it lost the soul of what makes doom doom.

MadLad1539d ago

Even Doom 3 did that, despite being a solid game all the same. Not mind blowing, in my opinion, but a solid title.

Segata1538d ago

Because it was Call of Duty with generic demons on Earth. Looked worse than the 2009 Wolfenstein. They made the right call.
