Hardcore Gamer: id Software’s challenge isn’t going to be making Doom 4 great, but making it great without compromising why the series was such a watershed of ideas for the first-person shooter genre.
Today, some new in-game footage from the prototype versions of the cancelled COD-like Doom 4 surfaced online.
What's cool is you can see some of the animations they kept and revised for 2016.
For me its always interesting to see some prototype of a game of something else and see the final product on why they go another direction in the end
I don't see what is "COD-like" here? Just because there's 2 seconds footage with ironsight?
Whilst the FPS genre has since had a tonne of fantastic franchises, such as Quake, Unreal and Serious Sam, Doom remains at the top of the pile, and has one of the best comeback stories in video game history. Doom is almost 30 years running, and has even bled into other mediums such as feature films and novels. As it has been going for so long, there have been a large number of entries in the series, and there are probably a few you never played. This is every Doom game ever.
According to ID Executive Producer Marty Stratton, DOOM 4 was scrapped because "it was more 'DOOM' in name than really anything."
If it's like Doom 1 then it will be epic
I hope it's awesome.
It'd spell DOOM for COD! *Massive booing.*
1.Keep the same gameplay(DOOM 1&2
2.add crazy guns
3.MOD support for PC&Consoles
4.Add a insane nonsensical story and weird boss fights
5.Make the AI super smart
6. Take a note from DOOM 1&2 level design with tons of secrets and easter eggs
7. Let the multiplayer server settings be custom
8.Community generated maps (NO DLC)
Boom perfect game.
I don't want it to be a corridor scarefest like Doom 3, make it faster paced like the originals. Make the monsters look scary, a realistic cacodemon in Doom 1-2 style would look scary.
4-6 player co-op would be awesome too.
I could picture it being a great game, who knows how it will turn out though. Hopefully there's more interactivity with the environment than Doom 3 too, compared to HL2 it was lacking quite a bit there.
