Sonic: Unleashed "recaptures the speed and spirit of the classic games." - IGN Preview

IGN writes:

"Having watched SEGA reps zip through two beautiful looking stages filled with classic 2D-esque loops and corkscrews in addition to fully 3D cities, we can optimistically state that Sonic is finally back.

In our opinion, the Sonic series has always played best with linear level design -- the sheer speed of the character is better let loose into an environment created specifically to nurture it. Unleashed does feature straightforward linear-style stages -- run forward as fast as you can -- but Sonic Team has given you a few choices, too. One of the stages demoed to us, for example, boasted upward of a dozen branching pathways. In some cases, a quick button-press sequence displays on-screen and you have to tap in the order of the sequence in order to take the high road, as it were.

We're definitely psyched about what we saw and can't wait to get our hands on a 360, PS3 or Wii controller to try everything out for ourselves."

Or fade away in Shame you Fools!!

ChickeyCantor5828d ago

" Why doesn't sonic have a Plasma rifle or something? "

....=/ what a disgusting idea =(

JUST NO......i hope it was sarcasm T_T

JEDI WOLVERINE5828d ago

Your comments are kinda retarded.
Sega has probably given us through the arcade, megadrive and saturn the best games ever......Shenmue,Super hang on,Panzer Dragoon,Afterburner,Outrun,Son ic,Nights,Sega Rally,Virtua fighter etc etc.

Obviously Sega are nowhere near the force they use to be but please show some respect.

Probably for me 3d platformers dont work and i think that Sonic3 was the best platformer ever - sorry Super Mario 64!!!!!!

ChickeyCantor5828d ago (Edited 5828d ago )

..Play super mario world 2: Yoshi's island.
JUST play it till you finished it, you will NOT regret it.
i think Sonic 3 is awesome too the best SONIC game but ....SMW2:YI = BEST

but yes its an opinion but if you get your hands on the game PLAY IT.

also comparing it to M64...was weird....really ( and no i never actually liked M64, Bros 3 is still the awesomenes after SMW:YI

okcomputer5828d ago

As far as platformers go i'd say mario 3 is still the best ever. My top 5 would be

1. smb3
2. sonic 2
3. yoshi's island
4. mario galaxy
5. mario 64

I really hope so, sonic was my first gaming icon and its been sad to see how low the series has sunk.

Maximus5828d ago

I used to love the franchise, I hope this game brings Sonic back

LinuxGuru5828d ago

For god's sake, this game NEEDS to stay side-scrolling.

Anything 3D that involves Sonic = Epic Fail.

If I have to read another one of these lists that contains the sentence "The game that started it all" I'm gonna go nuts.

And when it comes to fan favourite zones in Sonic 3 (he mentioned Hydro City, Marble Garden and Launch Base), I'd replace Launch base and Marble Garden with Ice Cap zone. Never heard anyone refer to the others as favourites.

NJShadow664d ago (Edited 664d ago )

I sorta' stopped caring about this list when I saw Sonic Spinball (a genuinely great game) ranked lower than some of the noted atrocities.

Pyrofire95663d ago

Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed is still my favorite kart racer.
I've never really been able to play online tho. D:
Can't even play Team Sonic Racing online cause the servers are broken and don't queue people together.
P.S. This is such a random list. I really don't agree with it. Maybe this really is how they rank it but them just seems odd personally.

Top Ten Sonic the Hedgehog Games

Phil writes, "Today, June 23rd, 2021, is Sonic the Hedgehog's 30th anniversary. 30 years ago today in 1991 a blue hedgehog named Sonic took the gaming world by storm with a spin dash, a too-cool-for-school attitude, and a hankering for chili dogs. SPC celebrates the occasion with a special top ten list, presenting the site's picks for the very best of the Blue Blur's biggest and boldest titles. After you've checked out the picks here, which Sonic games would you select as your personal favorites?"

wheres sonic 06 lol. I know im in the minority but if you can look past all the glitches I actually liked the game.

Chocoburger1038d ago

I have played the game more than I'm willing to admit. Even beat all the DLC as well, and nearly S ranked everything including the DLC.

The game had good graphics for the time, and a fantastic soundtrack. If only it had an extra year of development it could have been a decent game. People keep harping on the kiss at the end of the game as if its a big deal. It really isn't (people kiss their cats and dogs all the time, and no one freaks out about that).

They try extra hard to hate on the game, and while it does have a multitude of unacceptable flaws and had serious development issues (Yuji Naka quit SEGA early on during the project which definitely caused some internal struggles at Sonic Team), there are some positive aspects about the game that people don't give it credit for.

DarXyde1039d ago

Hmmm, this is kinda cheating, but I would rate Sonic 3 & Knuckles as #1, rather than having the two games separately occupy #2 and #3.

That was literally the only game I played for YEARS.

-Hermit-1039d ago

In any order

Sonic Adventure 1
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Heroes
Sonic Shuffle
Sonic Generations
Sonic Lost World
Sonic Unleashed
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic CD
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
