All in all, the expansion does provide a bit of a freshener to the basic Drox Operative game. If you enjoyed the original, you will likely enjoy the new features and quests. The new Scavenger race is a joy to play. However, if you’re more of a story-driven roleplayer, or didn’t find Drox Operative to be that entertaining, then you’ll probably want to pass on the expansion.

When I (Blane Humphries of TwoDashStash) was asked to review Drox Operative, I had no idea what I was getting into. This was a game that received very little media attention and was developed by a small group of developers at Soldak Entertainment. I did not realize that I was about to play one of the best games to come out on the PC in the past 5 years.

Drox Operative is primarily a 4x game, with the galactic scale you would expect to find in Sins of a Solar Empire or Endless Space; however, it goes beyond that. Drox Operative features a very robust item looting system, like you would expect to find in Borderlands, combined with fast paced action, strategy, RPG elements.

The world in which it takes place is full of planets, factions, aliens, satellites, anomalies, and a million other things laying around. Each of those things interacts regardless of your presence, but it's your presence that makes it interesting. This game's current expansion, entitled Drox Operative: Invasion of the Ancients consists of the base game which was released about a year ago, along with a metric ton of new races, monsters, ships, and quests."
