The PlayStation 4 has had a solid launch so far and consumers seem satisfied with the system thus far, but it's also a good thing to find out what developers in the industry think about working on this new piece of technology.
Techland senior engine programmer Tomasz Szalkowski discussed his experience with the system and what he finds enjoyable with it.
Dying Light 2 developer Techland talks about the "secret formula" to their games' success, and comments on how they see live service games.

Dying Light 2 was horrible. I played it at launch and it was a buggy and broken piece of shit. I didn't enjoy the game's locale either. They've released a ton of patches and updates for it though, and I'm somewhat keen to give it another chance. But the game left a horrible impression on me, especially seeing as how the first one was my favourite game last gen.

I question this stuff sometimes because it seems too good to be true. Same thing with Bungie. Is it really that they can make those decisions or can the owner, much like a Starbucks that just closes down a branch that attempts to unionize, truly in power and can just replace those with people that will just agree with them?
It's all PR talks. They're trying not to spook the fan base and partners for now. At the end of the day, owning the majority means Tencent has the final say. And they WILL crack down on Techland if they do anger the Overlords.
On the plus side, I'm sure Tencent will pass sweeping internal changes making sure this never happens. So no worries there...
New open world fantasy action rpg is going well apparently. Been watching some Dying Light 2 endgame as well. We’ll see how it all turns out.
Dead island 2 is a better game than dying light 2. So whatever you do please make more fun games
I seem to be in a minority here... but... I really like dying light 2. Yeah, they neutered the night time scares but the overall gameplay was way better. And you can block without that shitty riot shield.
Same as you, I enjoyed my time with Dying Light 2, I don't think it was as good as the first one but it was a pretty good game overall.
There's a new update that is either out now or coming very soon that is supposed to reinvigorate the night-time sections of the game among other things. Might be worth playing again with that update as they've also added a lot of other QoL changes as well.
More consolidation... Not good.
I really hope that the main "asset" with a company like tech land is it's people, and if you jerk around the people, they'll leave and make great games for someone else, maybe start something new.
Maybe tools like unreal will lower the barriers to entry to make this easier?
Dunno, trying to be optimistic that this, too, will pass.
Ultimately if they can't make good games, the investment will fail and the good people will move on.. I hope
Techland has finally revealed a preview of its unannounced AAA fantasy open world action-RPG.

Just update it with more higher-quality assets and effects.
What is it with companies making fantasy RPGs? There’s 3 or 4 new ones announced every day at this point. It’s the same stuff over and over again.

I buy pretty much every fantasy rpg if it's passable score wise like 6 or 7 on up. Blame me lol I don't care because I like them and I'm not alone
I’ve heard that about dragons dogma but it just felt to clunky. Couldn’t get into it but people love it
The year is 2006. There are space marines everywhere. I mind my own business and play my fantasy rpgs.
I definitely think it’s an issue of what era we are in. The post-9/11 era of gaming was grey and brown war shooters, but I grew up with those games and really don’t like the fact that, instead of making less of them, linear became a failure of games design, instead of a kind of games design.
Sifu has actually scratched a bit of that itch for me, and hopefully Max Payne’s remakes come through swiftly.
Fantasy games I can live without. I’ve put 9 hours in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (a kind of fantasy game) and I’m only at the beginning. It’s tedious to do anything and the dialogue is forever cringey 😅😅

It's just the nature of genre cycles. A couple of strong ignitors like The Elder Scrolls and Witcher series can inspire dozens of other studios to try their hand at it too.
When was the last really good one? Most company make half baked RPGs that almost fill a void.
Fantasy RPG is a pretty wide scope with a fair amount of variation, so even if there were as many announcements as you're claiming, I don't see why it would be a bad thing.
They can make what ever they want lol. Plus it's not the same thing, theme yes but they all vary immensely in terms of art direction, gameplay, story etc etc. If you don't like don't buy it eh

In open world their mechanics might be really interesting. Really loved Dead Island.
Playground Games (Fable), Game Science (Wukong, souls-esque though but still counts), BioWare (DA4, last concept vid looked a bit action oriented, might be wrong), CDPR (new Witcher), Capcom (Dragon's Dogma 2, much rumored), SE (FFXVI, seems abit Witcher-esque) ....
I probably should have mentioned classical fantasy, first person, action RPG. I was too vague.
But yes you are right, lots of RPG's to look forward to.
Maybe it's what they originally had planned for Hellraid before it became what it did in Dying Light.
Looking at Techland's previous work, I hope its a mix of Dying Light and Pure Farming Simulator 2018!
Yet another Developer praising Sonys accomplishment! I can't help getting lightheaded just thinking of what's in store for all of us 2,4,6 years down the road, and I'm not just talking about supporter of the PS4 either! I'm talking about gamers as a whole.
The PC, Xbox1, WII U supporter will benefit, because things will be pushed on the Hardware/Software side of the coin across the board, this is truely a good thing because everyone stands to benefit.
