The story for Ryse is somewhat cliché in nature but like most any fiction based on Ancient Rome, a total guilty pleasure. The story does manage to go in a couple of more interesting directions and a subplot forms throughout the adventure that highlights the potential for Ryse to become a franchise of note. The actors generally do a fantastic job, even when the dialogue is full of cheese and the character animations are superb which helps to greatly sell the story, which is very epic in nature.
From underrated Xbox One launch titles to absolute emperors of the strategy genre, history heads will love these games based around Ancient Rome.
Ryse was awesome, i have no idea why it wasnt recieved well and why we havnt seen another, Rome conquered so much, you could take the action anywhere, and it looked great when xbox one came out, now would be even better.
Ryse: Son of Rome was an Xbox One launch title that has been left to collect dust, but Crytek should set aside Crysis and give Ryse another shot.
I really liked the original Ryse but Crytek doesn't have the funds. The mismanaged their properties and let EA raid them with Crysis for the duration of their relationship. Right now they are working on Crysis 4, I doubt they can spare resources to work on a Ryse sequel.
I recently bought it for the steamdeck and have to say... 60fps is a game changer. I really wished MS had gotten a one x patch or series boost mode option but sadly, nope. Other games that definitely deserve a second chance (esp on steamdeck/pc) are quantum break and sunset overdrive. Both deserved 60fps support on one x / series but you have to go to PC for that.
Rumor has it Crytek had plans for a Ryse 2 but due to the low turnout for XB (at the time) it was shelved. They really should give this another shot. i dont care if its multiplat on PS and XB and PC and Switch... just so long as part 2 gets made.
Game was good enough, not great.
Graphically it was top notch. Still holds well till this day.
Xbox Game Pass Quests recently reset for the month of August. So if you try to collect as many Microsoft Rewards points as possible, there's a new set available now.
This is not what I would call value for money spent. They give you quests in liveservice games to get you "re-engaged" with the monetization schemes or to get you hooked or so you at least spend some extra on skins and loot boxes. Then they dole out paltry points after you have already paid extra for whichever liveservice within a liveservice that you are already paying for. My worry is people can't actually be that stupid to fall for this, can they?
I fnished the campaign, and I must say that I enjoyed it a lot. While the combat is a bit repetitive, I played on the hardest available difficulty so it was fun to master and i never found myself not entertained. I really thought it was great, despite being a tad short (quality over quantity though!), and I highly recommend it. Awesome game. In my opinion I do not think it deserved the really low scores some reviewers gave it.
I love this game. And it was actually longer than I expected because I kept hearing it was very short
Graphically this game is perfect and I like the upgrading system
It's a bad game if you don't know what you're doing because enemies will frustrate you and give you a bad experience
I found the gameplay to be great. And the 1st time I kicked an enemy back while using focus power... Holy :)
"ROME IS CIVALISATION! ROME IS ORDER! ROME IS POWER!"
Loved that quote from the story trailer, out of all the launch games and despite the reviews I kind of want to play this game the most simply for the setting.
Ryse Son of Rome is a great game!
Fun, entertaining, and great graphics. I had a BLAST playing thru it in one night and I loved it. The combat was challenging as you needed to upgrade abilities and learn how to execute combos to be an efficient fighter.
I still say the A.I. could've been smarter but still a great game.
Looking forward to Ryse DLC. If you own a XB1 then you MUST buy Ryse!
Good job Crytek
I'm enjoying it right now and I think its awesome. I came into it expecting it to be what it is and came away happy. I own both systems and I think each system will continue to deliver their own great games. I bought xbox one for its exclusives and Ryse is a great addition to the collection.
