UK Software Chart: FIFA 14 outpaces GTA V for week of October 5th

El33tonline writes:

"FIFA 14 retained top spot on Chart Track’s latest UK Software Sales listing despite sales dropping by 68% week over week. FIFA 13 recorded a 72% drop during the same period last year so EA will be pleased by FIFA 14′s superior resilience at this point. Interestingly, second-placed Grand Theft Auto V has now become the UK’s 12th best-selling game of all time after just three weeks at retail."

GTAV tops UK physical game sales chart for first half of 2017

UK video game sales tracker Chart-Track does not publicly reveal sales figures - it leaves that to video game publishers. But the Entertainment Retailers Association does, and in its latest report for the first half of 2017, it revealed the top six best-selling physical games in the UK so far.

The behemoth that is Grand Theft Auto 5 is the UK's best-selling video game so far this year, with 334,280 physical copies sold. That's a pretty incredible return for a game that first came out four years ago. Who in the UK is still to buy the thing?

Horizon Zero Dawn outsold Fifa ? Didn't see this coming. Rather impressive.

Only game in the list that is an exclusive and only on one platform. Makes the success even more impressive. Fantastic Job GG, can't wait to play the expansion this fall.

Multiplatform games are what 95% of gamers play. No exclusives are better than CoD, GTA and Fifa. Those are big free that a modern console must have.

But, but, but SP games are dying... less and less impact. Amazing job GG. High hopes for your next game!!!!

The charts are back - and this time they are digital

At last! The UK games industry has some digital download charts.

UKIE has signed agreements with leading providers of mobile and digital sales data, and MCV will be printing the results.

Great news!
As the digital market grows it is important and necessary that we have sales data so we can know which products are really selling the most.
It will also be able to reflect surprise digital hits such as Valkyria Chronicles re-release on Steam and sales of games on PlayStation and Xbox such as Ori and the Blind Forest.

As GFK will continue the physical games chart it will be a must to be able to compare and combine it with the digital. The reason being that, for example, Assassin's Creed Syndicate may be in the top ten physical chart but not appear in the top ten of the digital. This could indicate an issue with pricing or that there is less choice in bricks & mortar stores. A digital chart will also help with discoverability of smaller indie titles and games featured in flash sales. Although SuperData will face challenges, this is a big step forward!

UK physical games charts still AWOL

Just how did the UK games industry perform during an epic Black Friday sales period?

Well, we’re still waiting for GfK Chart-Track to tell us.

The firm normally releases its UK physical charts on Monday morning, but the data company said yesterday that these were going to be delayed following ‘a key retailer’ being unable to share its sales data following a systems failure.

Chart-Track tells MCV it is working around the clock to get the charts out as soon as possible.
