How does this compare to Godfather or Mafia 2 ?

I know the styles are somewhat different.

I wouldn't think they're much alike, actually. This is more a simulation, where the other two are straight up action games. Here, you manage a city with businesses and so on, while combat takes place in turn-based tactical maps with cover, line of sight etc.
