2K Games Cuts The Bureau: XCOM Declassified Marketing Budget on Analyst Projections

VGR: Earlier today it was reported the Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz sent a note investors projecting that The Bureau: XCOM Declassified would sell less than 250,000 units by years end. Creutz is basing this analysis off of internal estimations of pre-orders since E3 in June. We have learned from our public relation sources that Take-Two Interactive has also drastically cut the marketing budget of the game as well.

It's just sad. This game hasn't gotten a fair chance since it was first announced and shown several years ago.

joab7773948d ago

Agree amd less advertising won't help. Should release it now. Starts getting too crazy at the end of August.

OhOh! not sounding good. Do they know something we don't about the game? It's been through development hell, but it seems to have come out a better game. Well I guess I may just wait for the reviews now1

joab7773948d ago (Edited 3948d ago )

No. Just sales r down in general and this game is walking a genre hybrid line with the ability to piss off xcom fans. Also, in like 4 weeks, begins the craziest, most competitive 4 months that we hav seen in yrs.

That being said, I like it a lot. I think they should play up the mass effect comparisons, along with xcom.

MadLad3948d ago

I plan on buying at launch.

it doesn't help that gta5 is releasing next month most people would rather save their money, hell i cancelled my payday 2 and diablo 3 preorder for gta special edition.

right now im finishing some games in my backlog until gta is out.

jimmywolf3948d ago

agree, that only thing make me sad about bunch great games released back to back. if you only going buy 1-2 even 3!

their be game or 2 no mater how good, that get pushed too the bottom. an maybe even forgotten, amongst the others games hype.

FarCryLover1823948d ago

Well, that might be a good thing. XCOM fans will know about it and will buy it. Millions of dollars in marketing might help but it probably won't sway the minds of any non-fans into buying the game. Could be a good thing if it sells well because marketing costs could cancel out any sales if it sells modestly.

Wigriff3947d ago

And if it does turn out to be really good it will gain a cult following through word of mouth, much like Demon's Souls did on the PS3. I think it could be a smart move as well.

That's hilarious because he did and said the same thing with 2K Marin who developed Bioshock 2

They've been closed since 2013 but not officially acknowledged

He just doesn't want the backlash so pretends there's no issue.

Good. Fight the good fight!

Cacabunga100d ago

Gamers have the power and they are the Ives who will decide if physical stays or not.. physical is here to stay, but good that a guy like this confirms

jznrpg100d ago

Keep up the physical copies I’ll keep buying PS and Nintendo consoles.

shinoff2183100d ago

Fking word. Physical is the key. People would be surprised because the misconceptions out there but there's a sh ton of us that still prefer this route

ApocalypseShadow100d ago

One high end console has always been a benefit. The other is no longer a necessity.

Only competition there ever was, was when one launched a year to a year and a half early. Based on this generation, the other would have to launch 2 to 4 years early just to compete. Because buying a huge part of the industry, having a multiple game sleep mode, cheaper in price, smaller form factor, supposedly having better BC and a day one subscription service, has still resulted in another huge ass kicking.

Yay for physical Take Two.

Knightofelemia100d ago

I wouldn't really call it competing when a company is dead last in sales when compared to the rival company. I will always stick around for physical copies of games. Moment games go all digital is the day I bring the SNES and Genesis out of hibernation and just stick to retro.

So 2.47% of the global population have a copy of gta v no wonder they don't want to release vi there's still so many people who haven't brought v

Obvious sarcasm here

Abriael101d ago

Ha ha, we should probably count that a lot of people have 2 or 3 copies by now, for different platforms.

Cacabunga101d ago

RDR2 deserves much more praise.. game is unbelievable

KwietStorm_BLM101d ago

To think that 5mil sold is considered a huge success for any game in general, and 10 is amazing. I cannot believe people are still buying this.

Themba76101d ago

I keep saying that’s why the 7th generation was the most loved because of gta5 and Skyrim.

Demetrius100d ago (Edited 100d ago )

Well hopefully millions went to gta 6 singleplayer mode to make it extra epic but knowing rockstar nowadays there won't be a full support for singleplayer, mainly online will be the focus i bet but I hope atleast theres plenty to do in the open world and not just look good with little to nothing to do, after gta 6 ain no tellin when we will get another rockstar title even tho the mfs sucked in millions from red dead 2 as well I miss when we got more than 1 game a gen from them they always delivered, so many key staff members left not even just the well known names
