Insomniac "Proud of A4O and FFA", R&C: Into the Nexus to Return to Series' Roots, No Multiplayer

Maybe we are finally leaving the "CoD era" by that I mean less publishers or developers trying to put MP in their games when its really not necessary or even needed.

That won't happen and they shouldn't because it adds replay value but when they make the multiplayer the priority like CoD and just make a lame single player, that is unacceptable. Or they should just finish they single player first and even patch in the multiplayer, I would be fine with that.

I liked both A4O and FFA. They weren't traditional Ratchet and Clank games, but they were still fun in their own way. I've still spent as much time playing them as I did the bigger, traditional R&C games.

Day one buy for me then. I wasn't a huge fan of A4O or FFA, but going back to it's roots is one sure way to get a purchase out of me. The first 4 games in the series are the definition of fun. If you haven't played the first 4 I think they're all available on PSN, and well worth the price.

I don't mean to sound arrogant saying this, but finally, some signs of Insomniac coming to their senses.

I seriously thought R&C was beginning to peter out with A4O and FFA. I know it's harsh to say, but those games just seemed so pointless to me. Then they joined EA, released Fuse, and announced Sunset Overdrive as an X1 exclusive (the game looks dreadful too), and I just figured they'd lost all integrity.

This however is good news. I'm all for change in the games industry, but at the moment I think Insomniac need to return to home base for a while and do what they do best. That said I hope Into the Nexus is sort of like an even better version of Tools of Destruction. ToD to me is just so much better than A Crack in Time. ACiT felt rushed, lacked polish, and just wasn't quite as memorable. ToD for me is the definitive R&C experience and I hope they expand on it. Although I have to say, the clank sections mentioned remind me a lot of ACiT... Ah, I'm sure Into the Nexus will be mindblowing. Just no dubstep please.

(Also no multiplayer = a BIG plus.)

It's a shame they didn't stay with the Overstrike style that looked amazing. I think ea had more to do with it changing, even their sunset overdrive is using similar cartoon visuals. So I doubt they all the sudden hated the style they used to do.

I do know that I've played most of the Ratchet & Clank games and none of them played like Full Frontal Assault.
The only 'facts' I know are: that FFA came after all the other games, and that FFA is not as fun as the other games, A4O included.

I will. Probably at full price. Any time one of the PS2 3D action platformers wants to see an update, I'm all there. Sly Cooper was a darling of a game last year. I wish Naughty Dog would give us one for the road, too.
When you really get down to it, Ratchet, Sly, and Jak are all pretty similar games. The controls are relatively similar, the graphics are relatively similar, the platforming mechanics are pretty similar, the humour is very similar.
Truth is, they're all awesome. I think more people prefer Jak, but my heart will always be with that handsome lombax.

The series needs a break. Look at Gears of War: Judgment and God of War: Ascension. Series fatigue is horrible! There are just too many other games coming out this holiday season. Unless Sony packs this in with every PS3, it won't sell very well.

After that garbage Fuse, I give Insomniac a little respect back for a new R&C. I think they need to stick with platformers and leave games like Fuse and Sunset Overdrive alone. If only they still had Spyro. Just imagine how great that game would've been if still exclusive to Playstation.

No I still like playing my PS3. It still can produce great games like TLOU and beyond two souls. PS3 has a huge install base so it's here to stay til PS4 have a huge enough install base to over take it. Everyone can't afford a PS4 right away and MS is stupid to stop support for 360.

Back to the roots is exactly what Insomniac needs right now. Their last 3 games have bombed and apparently weren't that good either. They had a chance with EA to do something big and new, but they blew it on basic quality standards.

"Functional" is not the creative standard Insomniac has set for itself over the years, hopefully getting back to what made them great will bring back their true standard of quality. I mean, R3 wasn't for everyone but it was a polished jem. Fuse was a turd. A Crack in Time was an awesome display of game design IMO. Those last two were... Forgettable.

Insomniac has let me down recently but, I have hope. Ratchet and Clank is what these guys do best. Even the last two were well made, just fundamentally flawed.

The thing is, A4O and FFA werent bad games,
but not nearly as fun as ACIT
I even thought a tower defence game would work in a ratchet and clank game, but it wasnt that great
And while I really dont mind that there isn't going to be a multiplayer, i hope there is a co-op mode
I luved that in ratchet and clank gladiator!

I completely agree. I was trying to touch on that in my last sentence but I'll clarify my thought a bit more:

They weren't bad games, but the whole motivation for the games were baseless; no one wanted a ratchet party game. Now, a Ratchet game with part elements, mini games, miltiplayer, whatever... is cool, but it needs to be a Ratchet game first and everything else second. That might not be fare to A4O or FFA, but they didn't seem like Ratchet games as I've grown to know them. Ratchet has become kinda like a Micky Mouse as any change to the formula better blow people socks off or it'll be shunned. Maybe thats were I'm coming from or maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about, either way I'm happy we're getting a new Ratchet, I hope this sderies never dies.

Great. Not only do they lie about multi plat( we want to reach more people- oops we went Xbone exclusive), they then use R and C fans to try and pay for the development of it. They've milked the franchise to hell.I didn't finish A Crack in Time, All 4 One was OK and didn't buy FFA at all.
