No damage control here. I am not a MS loyalist. I truly am enjoying my Elite. I have had one problem with it and a reboot fixed it. Yes the hardware has problems. They are trying to work it out.

The PS2 had well known problems which were eventually resolved by Sony after many complaints. I guess that does not matter because Sony "Faithful" want to scream ZOMG RROD! 3FIXME dies again! If you never plan on buying a 360 then why bother posting about it?

I hate it when gamers mention ps2 failures from 5-6 yrs ago. Msoft has had over 2 yrs to fix their console still nothing. I don't think you can compare ps2 hardware failure with 360 but who cares. The disc-read error, if I remember correctly, was caused a lot by people using early PS2s as DVD players a lot. I'm not saying that was the only cause, but that is the only cause I remember being talked about. For the sake of argument, say that was the only cause, Sony didn't fix it because they could claim user-error. It's sh1tty, but that's why the did that, just like MS does with the disc scratchng problems, they say it's user-error. MS had to own up for RROD becasue there is no way for the user to cause it.

its not a lame story...this is 3 events in 2008 that MS put up 360 kiosks and have some 360s fail in front of everyone...this problem is really going to hit critical mass if MS doesn't do something about it...the hardware failures are still happening, and there is no denying that the general public had been pretty forgiving of this matter so far...thats going to change pretty quickly I would imagine if this continues...

Why wait till it happens at E3. When my first PS2 stopped working (disc read error problem) a few years after getting it I got it repaired, then a year later it broke again and I left it till the new slimline came out and never had any probs with that. I still believe that getting it "repaired" only prolongs the inevitable. Why put up with shoddy products which should have been recalled once the failure rate hit 30% and fixed. I'm sure MS would have had everyone on it then, whereas they can get away with RRODs now by sweeping the news under the carpet and relying on the '360 faithful' to cover up for it.

I'm not behind the 360 because MS are blatantly selling people a console that should have the repairs hotline engraved into it. Fix the problem and then I'd be very happy supporting the 360 :)

Only flaw with that theory is that Ps3s and Wiis and computers dont overheat I dont see why 360 gets a special exception. When 360 overheats most of the time it bricks the system for good until its been repaired if my Ps3 would overheat the fans would shut down and the system would turn off for awhile until it cools. Same thing with computers they turn off when overheated not trashed and it takes more than being incased in a plastic bubble to do that.

Well my release version 360 died at Xmas but I've got a new one and its only crashed about 3 times since but thats the games.
They'll know that next time, they should make sure the console is ready and tested properly instead of rushing it out to steal the market.

Still I've spent more money on my 360 so far compared to my PS3, the only one gathering dust is my Wii.

All we need to see now is RROD @ E3 and Tokyo gameshow and that should cover almost every major gaming event, shy of a few.

Maybe they could keep the same basic design but modify it even further. They probably need new materials overall, since what we have seen, their current SKUs are prone to heat issues.

Btw, I have left my PS3 on for a straight month and no problems. Although I got an Xbox360 Elite (no live subscription as of yet) I wouldn't dare put it to such a painstakingly test.

I hope Microsoft realizes that this is the game industry, not their ball game of software monopoly .
I hope they fix this problem sometime in the near future, cause it is a bigger problem than they would like to admit and than they HAVE admitted.

You have to look at it as a company would look at it financially.
Lets use Civil aircraft as an example.

Airlines look at the costs of fixing a fleet of planes compared to the costs of paying out for the deaths of people, on the chance one does crash.
If it costs more to fix the fleet than the possibility of one crashing, they'll let you die because its cheaper.

Its a drastic example but thats how MS would view it. Is it cheaper to replace than fix the core problem? Quite possibly so.
To also add to the fact that a lot of fanboys seem to accept this as ok, as long as they fix the machine and are apathetic towards them, then MS will continue to 4k people over.

3 weeks ago, i saw a RRoD xbox 360 in Comet (UK's Electrical Store) I laughed out so loud that i cried. I played on PS3 instead.

I think that the 360 has RROD at all the major events this year.. I could be wrong it could be like 6 outta the 10 major events.. for a 60% failure rate.. Hmmm that sounds familiar for some reason.. just cant put my finger on it

All I know is that Microsoft's next console better not have hardware problems like the 360 does. With the original Xbox there were lots of problems with the early models, just like 360 but for some reason they can't fix the 360 (or they won't, they probably don't care cuz people still buy it).
But if the 720 or 1080 or whatever the hell they call it has the same problem, they will lose customers faster then they will be able to react.

Has something like this happened at a "show" before? Yes.

So, why do we still care about an RROD at a gamer show? You should pretty much accept that it's going to happen and leave it at that. Saves time.

But what I mean is that for almost 30 years Microsoft has been a screw up in everything they do. The 360 has record breaking failure rates known throughout the world. Shouldn't it be a "well duh" kind of thing by now?

I mean, I know for a fact that a 360 WILL brick at E3, it's a given. So why place so much emphasis and attention on something that's definitely going to happen.

This problem is really whats holding the x360 back. MS should make it a priority to fix this problem asap. No band aid solution. The x360 is price right with the games lineup to boot. People are not buying it as much as they would because of this problem.

when i picked up a xbox 360 at launch[must stress to my fellow sony comrades this was to size up the competition]only to get the rrod after only around 1 week,and also quickly sized up that the competition was like a wounded mouse in combat[aka]/sh-t/so i sent it back and recieved a new one/fast forward 5 month later,at which point i was onto my 3rd rrod,and i was keep being asked for cash off microrip,then finally the penny dropped and i said f-ck it,at which point i sold the toaster they deem as a console to the local village idiot[and im not joking dudes this guy had the mental capacity of a well,a 360 fanboy,but to end a sad sorry tale that still gives me rrod flashbacks to this day,when the time was right and the mist of my terrible ordeal had cleared and passed,i woke one day to find the brightest most sublime sight not even worthy of the human eye to gaze upon ,and that sight ladies and gents,that sight, was the sony sunrise of magical technology and the real dawning of the next gen age.peace out sony dudes......
