Mike Bithell Hints At “Something Aesthetic” On DualShock 4 We Don’t Know About

Thomas Was Alone is the start of something big for Sony – we said so ourselves – the game scoring a smashing 9 squares out of 10 in our review.

And the developer of the original version (the PlayStation versions were ported by Curve) has been back at Sony today to discuss his next game, something he’s calling “Project 2″, something that’s aiming at PlayStation 4.

The DualShock 4.“You’ll know the success of this meeting in a year,” he said on Twitter today, “when you are / are not playing it on your PS4.”
He also, as you’d expect, got to hold a DualShock 4. “Can’t say much more about [it],” he teased, “it was only a prototype, but it feels tight, suits my hands, and is rather snazzy.”

it must be underneath the controller because I believe that is the only angle Sony have not showed us, which means that there is something underneath it but we have just not seen it, so this is quite a secret thing that Sony is hiding, I wonder what though?

adorie4025d ago (Edited 4025d ago )

Perhaps they've added something after we've already seen it.

SilentNegotiator4025d ago (Edited 4025d ago )

Maybe it's a select button. That would be sexy.

no one thought of going down a little bit? :( I'm sure some one thought of it to see beneath it!

MikeMyers4024d ago (Edited 4024d ago )

Another member (GribbleGrunger) has mentioned about a possible flip-out for the touchpad if I remember correctly. I thought more in the lines of the Trackpad from Apple where it's removable.

Utalkin2me4025d ago

It's a hole with vacuum suction, so while you hold the controller in your lap....errr wait nevermind.

oof464025d ago

But were would all the...is there a bag inside? How would the controller get rid of....Oh, ewww...

The SONY Fleshlight

...

What....we've all seen them in the adverts at the side of our porn sites.

MasterCornholio4025d ago

Its got a rear trackpad like the one for the Vita.

'Aesthetic' implies not functional.

BitbyDeath4025d ago

Jimmy Kimmel showed underneath the controller when he demoed Killzone.

Their was a strange metal thing under the controller but I couldn't work out what it was.

LeonhartX4025d ago (Edited 4025d ago )

it's a magnet for your fridge !!! ;)

BitbyDeath4025d ago

So the fridge must recharge your controller

BitbyDeath4025d ago

@thechosenone,

Yep, that is it.
Is small enough to be nothing but is odd it is there at all.

JRH77834025d ago

@BitbyDeath,

To me it just looks like the sticker the says Sony and has the model number etc..

i don't think they are actively hiding the bottom since it was on display for all to see. but yeah to bottom is an ideal place to add something but it would be pretty weird adding something aesthetic to the bottom since you won't be able to see it

Parasyte4024d ago

I'll be happy if it is something as small as rubber grips.

Majin-vegeta4025d ago

Sony still said they have things. We are unaware of.

spongeboob4025d ago

It's probably the texture of the bottom half of the controller. It's supposed to be a rubberized texture, you can see it in HD images.

unchartedxplorer4025d ago

Maybe its those two buttons on the bottom that the modded controllers have

unchartedxplorer4025d ago

Possibly. It could make the melee or the crouching a lot easier in fps's

LogicStomper4025d ago

I'm not able to click the link because of some browser issues, but judging by the title it may not be buttons.

Adding buttons would affect the function of the controller, not necessarily the aesthetical value.

kinetic1004025d ago

has NFC been confirmed on the controller?

LOGICWINS4025d ago

Charging your controller wirelessly. It would make sense actually. Sony's pushing the "Never stop gaming" mantra pretty hard with the PS4. We see this with being able to play games before they fully download.

Making it less of a hassle to charge a controller would be a reasonable addition.

kinetic1004025d ago (Edited 4025d ago )

not sure to be honest but they are pushing it into all their new gear. basicly anything Sony that goes on your coffee table has NFC. Would have thought a PS4 pad would be a good way to promote the feature.

Edit: Sorry, the feature I was thinking of is called "One Touch" and is based on NFC.

wsoutlaw874025d ago

nfc has a very short range and is usually just used to initiate a instant bluetooth sync. Wireless charging would be cool but you would still have to put it down to charge it.

Review: Thomas Was Alone - Nintendolife

As it’s a package from 2013 of a game that reportedly sold a million copies, you probably already know if you need to get Thomas Was Alone. If you haven’t played it and you have a Switch then you absolutely must get the demo – right away, no excuses. Its playful elucidation of how games work shouldn't be missed by anyone interested in the medium. The full game gives you a few hours of good platforming with great presentation and a well-told story. And as an artefact of its era of indie games, Thomas Was Alone is a delight. The game can be experienced start-to-finish in a few short sessions and Bithell’s commentary provides a sort of meta-narration to motivate another playthrough if you haven’t heard it before. In short, Thomas Was Alone was pretty great when it came out, it’s held up well and now it’s on your Switch.

Review - Thomas Was Alone (Switch) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "I thought Thomas Was Alone was just going to be yet another pretentious indie darling, but I’m glad to know I was dead wrong. It’s not only a well-designed puzzle platformer with good controls, but also a story-driven treat for the eyes and ears, a game that will make you care about a bunch of moving rectangles, somehow. It might not be very replayable (actually, let’s double down on this: it’s devoid of replayability), but it’s still pretty fun while it lasts. No matter where you decide to play it – and believe me, there are tons of platforms to choose – this game is worth experiencing at least once."

Any game that can make you care about basic shapes is doing something right IMHO.
