If this is even remotely true, I'm glad Sony Japan nipped the idea of calling a non-sim racer "Gran Turismo" in the bud.

Gran Turismo's brand name may have carried it to better sales, but it wouldn't have been Gran Turismo no matter what name you slap on it. Polyphony Digital make Gran Turismo.

I hope it's not "Motorstorm" for similar reasons.

Godchild10204128d ago (Edited 4128d ago )

I agree. I Just hope the game can take off as well as Motorstorm and Gran Turismo has in the past and present.

PGR5 as a luanch title will seal the deal as a day one purchase for the next Xbox. My third favorite racing series.

PLASTICA-MAN4128d ago

Best part in the whole article: "along with another next gen shocker from Guerrilla Games."

I don't care about whatever racer they will show, JUST SHOW ME THIS!

LOGICWINS4128d ago

Congrats on this find Tor!

hazardman4128d ago

I just got off PGR4, great series!!

TheSauce4128d ago

Wow, this comment section is surprisingly fanboy free. Everyone is getting along.

We should order more of these kinds of articles!

Red_Orange_Juice4128d ago (Edited 4128d ago )

"Internally they are calling it Europe’s biggest racing game in a decade. "

Gran Turismo name would bring sales, but the game should stand on it's own. I'm kinda glad they're not making next Motorstorm, even though it was solid it never got sales and acclaim Sony needs to aim for.

FriedGoat4128d ago (Edited 4128d ago )

Project Gotham will be terrible without Bizarre Creations. I loved Bizarre! DAMN YOU ACTIVISION! It's whichever company who gets the veterans will get the better game.

sobekflakmonkey4128d ago

As a Sony fan (meaning I agree with the choices they make and I appreciate them, along with their exclusives for PC) I gotta say I love PGR, PGR3 was the first 360 game I ever played and I absolutely loved it, yeah, it may be more of an arcade racer than a sim, but it was the perfect mix in my opinion, being that I'm never that great with games like GT or Forza, so I'm excited for the people who are buying the next Xbox, and excited for myself because I'm buying the next Playstation day one.

MikeMyers4127d ago

Sounds like two great racing games coming. Looks like I'll have to buy the next Xbox and the new Playstation just like I did this generation.

Forget the name of the game...the talent in evolution studios is now mindboggling

ABizzel14128d ago

Agreed. They have some of the best arcade racers in the industry all under one roof. There can be nothing but good from that.

Blur was great, Motorstorm was great, PGR was great,

Mix'em all together and what do you get.

Hopefully an Open world racer, with a completely destructible environment, with dynamic weather (rain, snow, hail, thunderstorms, etc...), with insanely fast and frantic gameplay.

Ooh the possibilities.

theBAWSE4128d ago

Yep imagine the open world similar to burnout...but with all these developers putting there mind and talent together..ps4 has a system seller right there

Divine4128d ago

Im very big on racing games . especially Gran turismo, if this is true i cant wait to see wat is expected on the 20th. im sure it will be compatible with all racing wheels if not it should be because its next gen n i would love to use mine with it.

1Victor4128d ago

@ Abizzel1 you get project motor blur racer

irepbtown4127d ago

My favourite racing game this gen is Gran Turismo 5 without shadow of a doubt.

However this team at Evolution Studios as you've quite rightly said, is mindboggling. Now I think it would be great if Polyphony Digital work alongside Evo Studios to create a Gran Turismo spin off (sort of). Gran Turismo: New World? Gran Turismo: Extreme (because Evo Studio's are off the hook considering Blur/Motorstorm)

Though I still want to see Gran Turismo 6 around about Launch time for the PS4, I think a spin off would be a nice addition.

Either way, I think Evo Studio's will create one badass game and if I do get PS4 at launch, I'll get it (hopefully).

PGR finally returns?! Awesome racing franchise! Dnt believe ms put it to sleep for this long. Pgr4 was amazing.

OOG4128d ago

Yeah it has always sold decently as well... never understood why it went away for so long... I guess to build Forza

FunkMacNasty4128d ago

If you ahvent already, You should try Forza Horizon in the meantime. It was developed by a collaboration between Turn10 and former developers from Bizzare Creations. It wears the Forza brand, but it plays like the spiritual successor to PGR

konnerbllb4128d ago

I'm not big on racing but great news for those who are.

Temporary4128d ago

Nice, thanks for the read. Very interesting stuff.

FamilyGuy4128d ago

Wow this all sounds like great news and if they both really come out with exclusive racers the comparison articles will be fun.

After reading The Witcher 3 articles and now this it's looking like no matter your console of choice the launch titles for both will be pretty good. I wanna hear about more games, exclusives and multiplats alike.

BlmThug4128d ago (Edited 4128d ago )

PGR5, Gran Turismo 6 and Forza 5 = My video game dream :'D I cannot wait. I've been waiting for PGR5 for so long since PGR4 and well i'm currently 'banging' out GT5 and i've completed Forza 4 so I am Ready!!

gdguide4128d ago

Nice! A balanced gamer who loves racing for RACING and not for what console it's on. Love it. :)

4128d ago
showtimefolks4128d ago

Giving it selling it under GT name might have meant more sales but could have also tarnished GT name so i am with Sony Japan on this. GT is a multi billion dollar franchise so why even risk it

This new team at Sony seems like a dream team lol.

Also PGR5's team also seems like a dream team

Good we get some great games at launch hopefully

GG new IP
This new Racing game
At E3 show GT6 ,uncharted 4

Here are few things to keep in mind:

Ready at dawn studios who did the PSP GOW games have been working on a next gen project since their last GOW game. Mist likely for sony

Sucker punch have been quite since infamous 2 so some sort of news is due

Santa Monica studios are working on 2 new IPs one was playstation all star battle royal other was rumored to be a SHOOTER. I know Santa Monica helped with star hawk so maybe it was that. But the 2nd team at Santa Monica have been working on something so i am excited to find out more

QD have a next gen title but I doubt we will find out anything about it till after the launch of beyond 2souls. Which by the way still doesn't have a release date. Could B2S be a next gen title? Could it be a launch title for ps4?

These are the games we know about what about some new IP's.

February 20th can't get here fast enough, but I think that will not be a tease of what to come at E3

IAmLee4127d ago

I liked the way the title suggest it's official they have been leaked, yet its in the rumor category.

Prodigy-X4128d ago (Edited 4128d ago )

I'm in a rush because this gen has been going on too long and I'm ready for the Next Gen PlayStation so when the Pre-Orders are available I can buy me a PS4 and a couple of launch titles.

But we can play the videos over and over and over again and analyse every little thing. ^_^

PGR on the original Xbox and dreamcast was one of the greatest racing games and PGR in my opinion is one of greatest racing series in gaming

OOG4128d ago

I find PGR to be one of the best online racers... it doesn't have the level of detail as much as Forza and GT but it looks great and drives fantastic

UnholyLight4128d ago

Yeah, I really liked the way that game felt. A little more forgiving than Forza but still challenging. I like racing in the interior views and PGR seems to have interiors that seem less fake like in some of the Forza cars where it almost feels like looking through a tunnel lol

theBAWSE4128d ago

PGR in my opinion is a better game than forza it just had a bit more fun about it...I remember being blown away by the graphics of it on the original Xbox

even though the lead designer and few others of bizarre are now at evolution studios just the name PGR alone will help move the nexbox in sales....

OOG4128d ago

Yeah I find PGR was great for the smallish tracks you were racing on.... I had some great online matches in PGR3... and some of those cars could do great drifts around turns.

hazardman4128d ago

True that, the online is great, but the offline arcade mode and career are very good. Its more than just racing as they have different race modes. Playing it on platinum will give you a great deal of satisfaction.

UnholyLight4128d ago

The cars turn so much easier. They say Forza is really realistic but I find it hard to believe sometimes. If I take a sharp corner at 60km/h in my Camaro it turns on a dime, in Forza it would not. But Forza is probably more realistic than PGR

Im just saying I love the feel between PRG and the way the cars race. You feel like you are going fast and the scenery moves by faster or something!

Starfox8114128d ago

While Evolution definitely has the talent for a racing title, and is actually rumoured to be taking over the WipEout licence since Studio Liverpool closed, I can't see Microsoft reviving PGR for their next gen console.

They sold off Bizarre because sales of PGR 4 were down and they just really didn't need two racers running alongside each other. It wouldn't surprise me if they were going to make something truly new, but calling it Project Gotham Racing 5 (or whatever) would confuse some, disinterest others and align it with a franchise that ultimately failed on the Xbox 360.

theBAWSE4128d ago

Microsoft should promote PGR instead of forza as I believe its a Better game but I'm sure both could have a place on the nexbox

gran turismo was a bit to serious for me,forza was ms answer to gran turismo..but PGR was the game that catered to both the hardcore and casual fans it hit that sweet spot of inbetween

Starfox8114128d ago

Oh I agree, I love PGR and prefer it to that of GT or Forza, but when Forza hit the 360 PGR just slowed to a crawl and PGR 4 wasn't really that good a game in comparison to 3 (IMO) nor did the cars handle as well as they did in Forza. It was a title in limbo, which is what led to Microsof axing Bizarre. It's why I'm a little wary of believing they'll just dreg it back up so casually after years of hearing nothing from it.

sak5004128d ago (Edited 4128d ago )

Say what? 2 racing series can't be on one console? You do know how many racing games had been out on 360? PGR3/4 , Forza 3/4/horizon, NFS, Test drive to name a few. I like both Forza and PGR series and would love to see both of them being on next gen xbox.

As far as open world game is concerned Forza Horizon had been one of the best games i've played in recent times. With also little bit of sim aspect and the whole open world concept with specific challenges and story mode.

The only racing game i've managed to finish just and just few gamer score of full 1000gs on it. Loved the way they implemented MP side of it as well. Getting those challenges done along with 7 other players online was so much fun as well as competitive MP games like cat and mouse, king of the hill etc.

Can't wait to see FH 2 along with Forza 5 and PGR 5 on next xbox.

IronFistChinMi4128d ago

At no point did Microsoft ever own Bizarre Creations, they just had a close partnership, similar to Sony/David Cage's studio.

Ironically number 9 can save them at this point (releasing games on multiple platforms)

ChasterMies1d 16h ago

By “save them” you mean make more profit for Microsoft. Xbox will still be a dying hardware platform.

OtterX2d ago

You could add the naming scheme for the consoles, it just confuses customers. I know they wanted to avoid traditional numbering bc it would always be lower than their competitor, but this whole 360 then One then Series thing is confusing af. Imagine a Soccer Mom trying to figure this stuff out. I still mistakenly call the Series X the One from time to time on accident.

RNTody2d ago

Don't forget about the Xbox One, Xbox One X and Xbox Series X! Good luck to Soccer moms around the world.

S2Killinit1d 15h ago (Edited 1d 15h ago )

They did that on purpose to confuse and direct attention away from the generational numbering.

MS doesn’t like reminding people that they joined the industry after others had already been involved in gaming.

For instance, they called the xbox “360” to combat PlayStation “3” because they wanted to seem like “more” than “3”, so instead of xbox 2, they opted for xbox 360. Also this had the additional benefit of selling consoles to uninformed parents who might purchase a “360” instead of a “3” by mistake, or because they thought 360 was more than 3. Kind of a disingenuous move.

They have been continuing with their confusing naming patterns for pretty much the same reasons. Frankly, it fits with who and what they are as a brand.

FinalFantasyFanatic1d 8h ago

I can understand their reasoning, but whoever came up with that naming scheme should be fired, bad naming schemes have killed consoles (I'm pretty sure it was the major reason for the downfall of the WiiU). They should have had unqiue names like Nintendo and Sega have had for their consoles, far less confusing for the consumer.

Cacabunga2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Phil Spencer is the worst that has happened to Xbox.
They built a respectable brand up to Xbox one. Then this guy took over and things became a joke

Reaper22_1d 23h ago

He still has his job. Something you can't say about Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga1d 23h ago

Both bad execs. One is on job and one thankfully retired.

FinalFantasyFanatic1d 8h ago (Edited 1d 8h ago )

I didn't like either person, both people damaged their respective brands and produced worse outcomes, but Phil did save the Xbox brand from being retired by Microsoft. Although in hindsight, he should have just let it die, rather than languish in limbo like it is now.

Rainbowcookie9h ago

Yeah but the one that was "bad" didn't even affect sales.

bunt-custardly1d 18h ago

Phil Spencer was also on the team back when 360 was around, alongside Shane Kim, Peter Moore etc. I think the damage that did the most harm was the Don Mattrick "Always Online" console (ahead of its time basically). They handed Sony and Nintendo a free-pass when that was revealed. It went downhill from there. Then the corporate machine went into full swing to try and recover. They have to a degree as a games company for the masses, and less so for the core gamer. Outside USA, the Xbox brand does not sell as well as Japanese based consoles (citation needed).

Cacabunga1d 17h ago

Want a decision maker. The always online and TV plans was a disaster yes, but they caught up by announcing 1st party games that gamers actually kept the hype going.. until this moron took over and introduced the PC day one release.. e all know where that ended..

S2Killinit1d 15h ago

I dont think they were ever a respectable brand, not since the beginning, when their goal was never to be involved and share in the gaming space. I think the OG xbox was an exception because MS as a brand was still getting its foot in and so the people behind that were people of the gaming industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic1d 8h ago

The 360 was the brand in its prime though, everything went downhill towards the end of that generation. Its staple games like Halo, Forza and Gears are what kept the console relevant and afloat for so long.

MaximusPrime_2d ago

Really good video.

I remember the days with RRoD was big news on here, N4G.

Microsoft had it turbulence number of years.

Looking at the success of Sea of Thieves despite being 6 years old, time to release Halo, Forza horizon 4 & 5 on PS5. It'll help their revenue

shinoff21831d 23h ago (Edited 1d 23h ago )

2 of the 4 games they did already sold really well. So it's definitely going down. Idk about halo or forza but I feel those studios they've bought in the last 5 years, their coming

ChasterMies1d 19h ago

I found this video painful to watch. Can someone list them out?

Top 10 for me from are:
1. 2013 reveal presentation
2. Bundling Kinect 2 with Xbox One
3. RRoD or why rushing to market with hardware is always a bad idea.
4. Buying studios only to close them.
5. Ads on the Home Screen
6. Letting Halo die.
7. Letting Geard of War die.
8. Every console name
9. Charging for Xbox Live on Xbox 360 when Sony let PS3 players play online for free.
10. Cancelling release of OG Xbox games after the Xbox 360 launched.

...not yet but 100% within the next 10 years!

..Then Sony will use it like the drop of a hat. They're no different to the others.

isarai3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

They used to be 😞 sure it was always a business, and money's always the priority, but they used to have a very strong stance on supporting artists and creativity. "Dont f#@k with the artist" was a phrase they touted a few times back in the ps1-ps3 era, a philosophy carried over from their music branch PlayStation was created from. It's not COMPLETELY gone, but it's barely there compared to what it was back then, i just want them to return to that.

Eonjay2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I am highly encouraged by their statement about human creativity. "Dont f#@k with the artist" is exactly what they are saying. But at the same time, I don't think people understand that Sony is a corporation. If they don't realize growth, they don't get to exist. When you say 'Sony', you are talking about a bunch of investors. To speak about them any other way is a illogical and incorrect. They haven't changed. They have been a group of investors since they became a public business.

isarai3d ago

Ugh, i really wish people would stop gambling people's livelihoods by turning a project/game into their political soapbox. Im all for statements and having your own opinion, but there's more people working on this than just druckman, ham fisting your political beliefs onto just seems inconsiderate for everyone elses job security when it can result in a failure due to people avoiding it for that reason.

I play games for escape, im so tired of nearly every AAA game blatantly dragging real world issues to shove in my face when I'm trying to take a break from it all. They don't even bother to be subtle about it, quite the opposite, it's blasted and force fed to you and it's just getting exhausting

Einhander19723d ago

People are taking a whole interview and cutting it down to clips that make him look bad and take what he actually was saying out of context. For example he also said things like this AI has "ethical issues we need to address"

-Foxtrot2d ago

@Einhander

Why defend him at this point?

It’s not taking things out of context, he said what he said.

Old ND would never talk about soulless AI taking over so many creative things they are well known for. The whole “ethical issues” is just a good PR spin people who push this crap fall back on to make their statements not seem as bad. So many AI lovers do this.

AI has no place is so many creative based things.

Einhander19723d ago

Well yeah, because everyone else is using it so they need to stay competitive. It's the same as paid online, they didn't want to go that route but their competition was making so much money they needed to add paid online just to keep up.

RaiderNation2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

AI will never replace humans in game development in terms of conceptualizing new games. Humans still need to come up with the ideas and what they want to implement. However much of the day to day menial coding could be AI driven to reduce production time and team size. I could also see AI being used for bug testing/optimization that could lead to better quality games at launch. I'm actually very optimistic about how AI can positively impact game development.

Good statement but hopefully this holds up

NotoriousWhiz2d ago

People that aren't software developers just don't understand the benefits of AI. People who's only exposure to A.I is the Terminator movie and other related sci fi films won't understand the benefits it provides.

It's not about replacing human labor. It's about making human labor easier.

Many years ago, I had laser eye surgery done. It was performed by a robot. The doctor took my measurements and calibrated the machine to make sure it would do what needed be done. And then the robot corrected my vision in 10 seconds.

15 years later and I still have 20/20 vision.

Eonjay2d ago

AI in and of itself is not a 'bad'. Money is bad. Money is evil, and corporations will do whatever they can to get more of it. They will find ways to implement AI to replace as may jobs as possible. This isn't even up for debate. It is the charge of the corporation to maximize returns for the investors. They have no choice. I'm a developer and I know that my job will absolutely be replaced. Therefore, I have decided to become an AI dev. AI has a lot of potential to help us solve problem on a scale most can't even imagine. The issue, as ever is that our monetary system only ever allows us to focus on greed and fiscal growth.

But I am a pragmatist. Perhaps an AI model can be built to help protect us from our most dangerous instincts and habits. And perhaps Congress can pass laws to protect us from people who would use AI to manipulate and control us (spoiler: they wont).

RaiderNation2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Progress is inevitable. Nobody driving cars today is complaining that the horse and buggy is no longer around. Yes, some jobs will be lost but guess what? With innovation comes new job opportunities. It's how the cycle of the job market works.

Why all the hate? Im actually excited about this! Always wanted this kind of immersion, and an AI companion with me all the time helping me out knowing the status of my skills/inventory/progress and giving me tips on the best approach or how to craft something specific is game changing for the industry.

Hate all you want about AI, but this is just the start and I can see the potential already. You wont be complaining in the next 5-10 years about this, but rather complain if a game hasn’t implemented it.

MrDead6d ago

Yes we can't wait for the work of others to be used without the need to pay them so that MS can profit even more from the people they fire.

I_am_Batman6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

There is no chance I'd ever use something like this, especially if it's not part of the core game design, but a layer on top of it. It's way too much handholding. Many games already feel like busy work, because they don't let the player figure things out on their own. Having a real-time interactive guide defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place in my opinion.

If this were to become the standard like you predict, we'll see more and more video games get away with bad design, because people will just be used to ask for help from the AI companion anyway.

Number1TailzFan6d ago

Well Nintendo don't need this with some of their games these days, with invincible characters, items, easy bosses etc.. they do the hand holding built in
