Square Enix CEO wants Final Fantasy Versus XIII to give you “that nostalgic, ‘this is FF!’ feeling”

Here’s another quick Final Fantasy Versus XIII non-update.

Irishguy954273d ago

Nomura's said this is what it's like backj in 2008, particularly when flying over the world map in an Airship...

:(
Why make us wait so long? Why not put resources into this?

TheFinalEpisode4273d ago (Edited 4273d ago )

Because masterpieces take time ;)

Irishguy954273d ago (Edited 4273d ago )

Especially when their resources are put into other games, Versus only went into full production last year/ Because they were focusing on the sequel of FFXiii

Also, all these comments are basically just saying "don't expect Versus tomorrow"

Godmars2904273d ago

Something yet to be released can hardly be called a "masterpiece."

PooEgg4273d ago

'Masterpieces take time?' LMAO - tell that to Duke Nukem.

DFresh4273d ago

Anything more then 4 years is too much time.

AnotherProGamer4273d ago

@DFresh Half life 2 and Red Dead Redemption says hi.

HellzAssassin4273d ago

@ TheFinalEpisode
Gran Turismo 5. Took years to develop... I'm not saying it isn't a good game, but it was very underwhelming. Despite that, I still absolutely adore GT5 for what it is, and the support for the game. Alot of the paper cutter graphics, jaggy shadows and vast majority of the cars being HD remakes of previous ones, the game overall is still incredible. But not a masterpiece I was hoping it to be.

Plus, other games like the aforementioned Duke Nukem, and also Too Human, and a few others took years to develop and were mediocre games.

refocusedman4273d ago

I understand what your saying but I don't necessarily agree. If square knew after 4 1/2 years that versus would still be in the developmental stage at this point in time they would not have mentioned it at E3. I know people are excited abt the game but this is really unacceptable. This "game" has been in development an almost an entire console cycle....... somethings wrong with that.

TheFinalEpisode4273d ago (Edited 4273d ago )

@Replies
True, but I stick by my statement. Masterpieces take time but not all games that take time are materpieces. I never said that all games that take long are guranteed to be good. I was just trying to stay positive here :P

Xof4273d ago (Edited 4273d ago )

Except they don't. There's a "golden development cycle." Usually 2 years minimum, 4 years maximum. Games that take more time than that to develop (or less time) tend to be not very good.

The fact that Versus XIII has been in development for so long is NOT a positive indicator. It means that there have been some serious problems with the game, either mechanically (as was the case FFXIII) or with the development staff (as was the case with FFXII).

So far, Square-Enix has proved to be utterly incompetent at handling the Final Fantasy series. The only two FF games they managed to turn out in a decent cycle basically re-used 99% of the assets of previous games.

It's entirely possible that Square-Enix is delaying the game further in order to fix the problems that caused Versus XIII to be delayed so much in the first place, but given their track record it's unlikely.

Just look at Final Fantasy XIV. A -NUMBERED- final fantasy game. If they deemed it ready for release two years ago, just imagine what an enormous mess Versus XIII might be in.

Yeah, I'm a gamer. I'm an FF fan. I really want Versus to be good. I really want it to live up to the hype.

But I'm also old enough and experienced enough to know better.

Noctis Aftermath4272d ago

Expect it to go multiplatform.

FYI i only own a ps3, i just want to set myself up for as little disappointment as possible so i can just focus on the game.

Expect exclusive and get exclusive = thats good

Expect exclusive and get multiplat = RAGE

Expect multiplat and its multiplat = slightly disappointed.

Expect multiplat and its exclusive = happy days!

360ICE4272d ago

Like Duke Nukem Forever and Too Human...

doogiebear4272d ago (Edited 4272d ago )

Has it ever crossed the minds of poeple that after all these years, we've never seen a single screenshot of this "game",except for a tech demo years ago?

Is it possible that MAYBE Square is lying to keep fans from losing interest? Maybe they want you to buy their ff 13 spin offs as an attempt to redeam themselves for the aweful FF 13. It looks like the game (FF 13 versus) isnt even really in Alpha stage after all these years. In other words, I dont think they are really working on it. Mayne a few concepts are thrown around at Square Enic's office, but I doubt anything is even close to being remotely concrete there. Why make another FF mmo, and 2 spin offs of an already convulated and underwhelming game (FF 13), if you are already busy working on the one game people actually have hope in (Ff vs).

Something is amiss here. Square is stringing gullible fans along. Square is over. Atlus, xSeed, and others are quickly reviving the japanese rpg landscape in a major way. Persona series alone is better than even the best Final Fantasy games. Square even tried stealing it's battle engine in FF 13, but failed because they dont fully understand it. Let go of Square, they are no longer what they used to be. Nor will reviving the old school FF formula be enough to save them, since so many jrpg's have already repeated that formula to the point of excess.

Shin Megami Tensai is the new JRPG series that is worth a damn. The series has been around in japan since NES, and is taking America by storm with the Persona sub series. Bye bye Square, your so done.

Vortex3D4272d ago

If Square starts to release games quickly like how most western game companies are, FF will be full of bugs.

Real question, why is waiting so difficult? There are more games in the market that you can keep up. That's the problem with today's game consumers. Everything must be ready now, consume it quickly and forget about it. Same demand again. It will be interesting how today and future gamer generations see art. Run through the art museum and call it done immediately. Demand more arts quickly.

morganfell4272d ago

@360ICE

You didn't learn from what happened to pooegg above? I guess not. And just like Duke Nukem, Too Human wasn't in continual development. It went through multiple platforms and countless start stops.

MaideninBlack4273d ago

FFXIV is also sapping alot of resources.

Lucretia4273d ago (Edited 4273d ago )

Irish guy, the resources wasnt for 13-2. it didn't take much for them to make it.

the resources were spent to fix the crap the was FF14

Edit @ Dragonknight

I think you must have missed alot of news during the year. The resources were to FIX ff14 after it bombed. Hence ff14 2.0's recent release.

nomura even said that they had him busy on other projects. 13-2 was not hard to make. it had existinng software and the same battle system.

do some research buddy. Nomura's team for Versus is not only the team for KH, but most of square.

Nomura was busy before on KH BBS, Crisis core, dissidia 1 and 2, KH dream drop distance, world ends with you, KH 358/2 days, KH recoded, as well as 13-2 and some help with 14 (2.0)

don't ignore the other games and think they made them self. No offense

DragonKnight4273d ago

Sorry but that's wrong. Nomura's team have nothing to do with FF14. The resources WERE for FF13-2 as FF14 was already being worked on before 13-2 existed. Just because you have location resources finished doesn't mean you have everything ready right away.

raiden-494273d ago

@DragonKnight
FF13-2 was mostly made that's why it came out so fast it was the content that was left out of ff13 because of the change of going muliplatform for the game as it was in development for over 5 years prior.

Ranma14273d ago (Edited 4273d ago )

Well if they want to go back to their roots, they are doing the right thing.

"If it aint broken, dont break it", and thats what SE did to the FF franchise.

Nice to know they are trying to fix it

miyamoto4273d ago

so does that mean its just on one disc? or M$ is hard timing them again to release it on 360 that why its taking them too long again?

Jazz41084273d ago

The reason its taking so long is most likley the ps3 having a hard time handeling a open world ram intensive game with good detail in the graphics. The ps3 has shown time and time again unless you go linear or cover up poor textures its very hard to get a game up and running on the ps3 as it bottleneck ram and gpu and its hard to program cell have made many devs have to get creative with partial mandatory game installs and repeating the same code over several areas of the bluray disc to help improve performance. I do hope square will get some help from sony and see if there is away to get this game still out before next gen.

Games4M - Rob4272d ago

dunno about that - Infamous 2 looked pretty good

MuhammadJA4273d ago

All the over-hyping could lead to disappointments.

Jaces4272d ago

I'm going to completely disown the FF series if Versus doesn't deliver. The last good FF game was X, I need something that will remind me why I loved Final Fantasy so much, please Nomura make it happen!

doogiebear4272d ago

Dude quit holding your breath. Have you tried Persona 3 or 4? Those games are taking jrpg's to the next level. You can find persona 3 as a ps2 classic on psn. The stories are also unrelated like each final fantasy, so u don't have to play 1 and 2 to play persona 3. Square sucks so bad lately, that they've even been screing up their Kingdom Hearts games (a series I liked a lot).

Try persona, its the highest rated jrpg series on metacritic. Check out some video reviews for Persona 3 before you play Persona 4. Part 3 is a little darker of a story.

I hope it releases this year as a ps3 exclusive.

Furesis4273d ago

so do i softube.. so do i but sometimes things just don't go the way you want them to

HammadTheBeast4273d ago

Wait... is your username "ten tons of tube" or "ten ton soft tube?

TheRealHeisenberg4273d ago

Wishful thinking on both parts. It is not releasing this year and it will also be on the Xbox platform when it does. That's why it is taking so long. It will still be a quality game and more will get to enjoy it. Not instigating here but I'm sure most will see it that way.

stonecold34273d ago

wont be coming to the 360 nomura is a huge sony fanboy people need to stop askibng for a 360 port because its not going to be released on xbox

Snookies124273d ago (Edited 4273d ago )

@stonecold3 - He's not a fanboy per se, rather he saw the issues Final Fantasy XIII had with mutli-platform in the case of the 360 version looking bad in comparison. So he said he wouldn't be doing multi-platform on his games. However he did say he would think about porting later on, so there's that...

Unlimax4273d ago

Nomura Wants the game to be Exclusive for Sony .. While wada thinking how to make this multiplatform in any form !

So stupid how the gaming industry become these days , everyones following their greedy plans !

what's with this sudden hype Wada is trying to create?

Lucretia4273d ago

maybe they will show us more soon since the square show is supposed to be soon :P

sjaakiejj4273d ago

expect it to show up at TGS with a release date.

Capt-FuzzyPants4273d ago

There's an FF Aniversary event going on so he's probably getting asked about everywhere he goes and he has to say something, but since they have a specific date to talk about Versus he won't say anything about the game except wait. All I want to know now is when will they show it. It seems to be at TGS in a couple of weeks right now.

KillerPwned4273d ago

I could really see this being the last big game we see on the PS3 along with MGS 5. Think about it on a current gen console using the PS3 to its max potential. Think about how great the environments, airships, towns ect will look like.

That has to take a lot of work and time. I want this game ASAP but I am willing to wait as long as it comes this gen.

HammadTheBeast4273d ago

Last of Us bro. Right up with them. Naughty Dog's final PS3 masterpiece.

_-EDMIX-_4273d ago

Last Of Us looks to be a great game, FF Versus looks to be an epic staple for JRPGS this gen. I like action games too, but they grow better and better each gen, RPGS a lot of times take a very long number of years before they are out done (in some peoples opinions some older RPGs are near perfect)

I like Last Of Us, but its sequel will likely blow it out of the water, but with a game like FF Versus, its going to be a gem for quite a while. And this is truly if the game still has an open world map, Airships, towns etc. Its a game on a whole nother level.

SolidDuck4273d ago

I hope it gives me that, damn it finally came out feeling.

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog159d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake158d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic157d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan158d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman159d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator158d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno158d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior159d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake158d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
