IGN-Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Review

IGN;Praise the sun! A Souls game has arrived on PC. It is surely weary. We'll let it rest, and get to the new edition's bonus content and the quality of the port in a moment. On the off chance you've been off collecting beetles for the last three years and missed Dark Souls entirely, here's a recap of why to be excited.

I think PC gamers deserve a better port, but at least they got the game. Heck, the higher Res isn't the biggest deal in the world. Game still looks good and the gameplay is unmatched. A higher Res (when it is decent enough) shouldn't bump the score that much because the rest of the design from the console version (from which this game is ported) is spot on.

Congrats in getting the game you asked for. In an ideal world a bit more care would have gone into this game, but it doesn't really matter. I would be happy with a direct port if the game was THIS good. At least it opens up the next installment in the franchise to be released on PC which is a big win!

Idk man, the resolution mod really helps a lot.

Loving the game so far, great for taking breaks from D3 $ farming.

Yes, it helps and there is no denying it. The res on PS3 was playable for me and I'm sure it is playable for many. If the option for an improvement is there then take advantage of it though. Glad you're enjoying the game. It is one of my top games this gen.

720p on a 1080p monitor isn't the same as 720p on a 1080p TV. The monitor doesn't clean it up so it isn't noticeable. The faults are glaring on a monitor.

Without the resolution Fix, it looks too muddy. But after the fix, forcing 16xQCSAA in the control panel, enabling motion Blur, it looks miles better to me.

And for some reason being locked to 30fps didn't bother me as much, it really made it feel more like Demon's Souls to me.

I honestly can't stop playing it... and I bought at console launch. I still have amazing games on my shelf (Arkham City and Witcher 2 to name a couple) that I got for my bday (May) but I can't put Dark Souls down.

FromSoft really made a masterpiece, imHo.

Two disagree's wtf lol

Anyone yeah I have to agree, I think it deserves high than a 9 tbh, which is nothing by IGN standards...

You seen the upcoming patch? Major changes are happening in Dark souls

I can't wait. I've not spoiled anything for myself yet... but the snippets I've caught sound awesome.

Yer and it was awful (the port not the game).

luckytrouble629d ago

Still use it as my go to on Steam, but I will never make the mistake of booting it up without mods ever again.

MadLad629d ago (Edited 629d ago )

And it was garbage.
Luckily it was easily fixed by a modder who actually wanted a good product to be sold to people.
