Konami Ruined Metal Gear Online

Jack Patton of Bagogames: "I saw Call of Duty(s) come and go over the years, but MGO was the one vice I just could not kick. Until its community and lack of moderation finally killed it off; turning it into a breeding ground to the very worst kind of gamer. "

I remember playing Metal Gear Online a few times when I first got MGS4. If I remember correctly you needed at least two accounts just to play it. It was a pain to sign-in and it took forever to download the updates for it.

It's a shame they shut the servers down though, it was quite a bit of fun when I played it. Konami just made it a headache to start it up.

Rediculamal4294d ago

The Konami account and then the sub subsidiary MGO account.

Yeah, that was a pain. (x.x)

Bagogames4294d ago

The website for the Konami account took hours to load...

Literally, hours!

hay4294d ago

Man, I remember when beta hit, it was impossible to register and frustrating at the same time. MGO at the reach of your hand, but you cannot even get close to playing.

I'd love to see MGO back with MGS5, but definitely through better service.

-Mika-4294d ago

The account is seriousley over exaggerated. Yes it was a pain siging up but once you did. The game would autmactally remember your log-in details and that would be the end of it.

Overall MGO was the best online game I played this gen. They really added alot into that game that multiplayers games still don't do. Text chat mid-battle,customizible option,Pre made voice option, an actual clan system.
It was an amazing game. It really sad that not alot of people played it. I hope when Konami annouced MGS5. They better Include MGO.

Also about the region locking thing in the article. Konami did the right thing. If anyone played MGO. You would know that lag was the worst in that game. So other people from different countries joining a match would have just been ugh.

JoGam4294d ago

All I got to say is let it go. Medal Gear Online closed its. doors so let's keep it moving. Besides I think they learned their lesson.

they did it the same way as PES on PS2. Very old fashion but they changed it a bit later.

josephayal4294d ago

THB I've never even heard of that. An online version of Metal Gear?

Rediculamal4294d ago

How comfortable was that rock you've been living under for the last four years? (o.0)

abzdine4294d ago

i never had the chance to try it even though i bought MGS4 day one in 2008. I didn't have an internet connection at home at that time.
I dont really understand why they shut the servers down. Was nobody playing it ?

matgrowcott4294d ago

The last couple of times I played it, the experience wasn't nearly as good as it had been. I remember feeling like part of a community when I was an active member of the game, but the last time I logged in nobody was using the training area or other modes.

It was still decent, but the lag and cheaters made it a shadow of what it was. If they were to polish it up and then re-release it with MG:R or MGS5, it'd do it a world of good.

And maybe that's just one of the announcements we can expect at the end of the week.

Nicaragua4294d ago

It was the best game i have every played, and the worst game i have ever played.

My clan were regulars on Survival mode for a long time but lag switches and glitches started taking the fun out of the game. By the time we quit it wasnt even a game anymore, just people exploiting a system.

It was definitely the best multiplayer experience on the PS3 with its customisation, clan system, and tournament system - which kinda highlights how things have gone backwards this generation. Games like MGO and Killzone 2 came loaded with features to keep ingame competition flowing, whereas newer titles are stripped down and missing the basics.

Godmars2904294d ago

Why talk about something that's been shutdown.

It was sabotaged day-one by their own methods, but its still shutdown now.

doogiebear4294d ago

Just shut up. Why are u here then?

Hope SH2 gets more polish before release.

P_Bomb1d 2h ago

I’m not paying $94 CAD for what they’ve shown me. Looks rough as sin.

Fishy Fingers1d 2h ago

Ive seen better lip syncing during a Punch and Judy show

Sonic18811d 2h ago (Edited 1d 2h ago )

This looks terrible. Capcom should have done the remake 😂 The animations and gameplay looks stiff.

-Foxtrot1d 2h ago (Edited 1d 2h ago )

Okay. I was saying before in another article how SH2 looked better than the last trailer, which is true but damn this looks rough as hell.

I wanted RE4 / Dead Space remake quality

Sonic18811d 2h ago (Edited 1d 2h ago )

I wouldn't buy it for $70 dollars. Maybe when it's on sale.

-Foxtrot1d 2h ago

Yeah full price, deluxe editions, Konami are f***** tripping here.

CrimsonWing691d 2h ago

The characters look terrible to me… like it’s distracting.

repsahj21h ago

I will give this game a chance!!! let's go!

Interesting that Konami is releasing nothing of note and still enjoying high profits. I guess this is the allure to companies.

VenomUK21d ago

It was probably due to the half-hearted release of the Metal Gear Solid Collection v1.

Imagine the extra sales Konami could’ve made if it had put some effort into it.

JL293020d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Half hearted? MGS: MC is the best collection of Metal Gear games you can get with tons of bonus content.

Why are you mad? Because they didn't make the games 4K so you can see the low resolution textures and warping better? Most of you cry babies never even touched the MSX Metal Gears.

SimpleDad21d ago

Of course, they rereleased MGS series on modern platforms. Thank You Mr. Kojima.

Castlevania fighting game for wii needs to be remade plz

Aphrodia57d ago

well, the new C ontra was made by Wayforward, who have been taking sooooo many of these classic franchises and making new iterations of them. Imo they aren't very good at it. And I don't see operation galuga being a large enough success to possibly give them Castlevania.
