Has Ubisoft Destroyed the Tom Clancy Brand?

Ubisoft's Tom Clancy games once stood at the top of the heap as a shining example of what military and tactical shooters could aspire to accomplish, but since the beginning of this generation, Ubi seems to have completely ditched the successful foundation of earlier Clancy games in favor of simplistic and dry sequels.

Splinter Cell:Conviction was terrific! Double Agent was not good.

All GRAW games were great & Ghost Recon games. All Rainbow 6 & Vegas games were great!

Ghost Recon:Future Soldier is friggin terrible! I knew this was going to happen when they said this was going to release & be developed simultaneously with the PS3.

Gone is the 12 player co-op over a massive map that all of my boys used to play for hours. Gone is controlling your squad!

Ive purchased 2 copies of R6 & Recon games for the co-op, this time I bought 1. I'm not buying another, now my son understands why I'm pissed.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was the last great Tom Clancy game.

tigertron4358d ago

Even then it was riddled with bugs and lag. Well, that was the PS3 version anyway, not sure about the others. Other than that I thought it was a great game.

Hufandpuf4358d ago

IDK about the PS3 version, but I was playing on xbox and online was fine.

BattleAxe4358d ago (Edited 4358d ago )

Its was fine on both PS3 and PC from what I played. Its still the best co-op game out there today. Can anyone confirm whether or not GR:FS is as good as GRAW2?

Spydiggity4358d ago

no, the graw series was better. but, it is still a good game. the multiplayer is kinda pointless, but the co-op is fun.

morganfell4358d ago

I'm sorry Huf but I can't agree with you. The title was little more than a selection of set pieces where some dev sat around and said, "Oh look, this would be cool if one guy could enter the door this way and two this way" and then they found a way to cram that piece into the game. Three man teams? Pffft.

They had the most unbalanced set of weapons in the history of any Tom Clancy game. Just one example was MP which was rife with people running around with scoped P90s with a three round burst (which doesn't exist in the real world) and you kill guys more accurately and faster across those longest distances of those little maps than you could with a SR-25 or M40. When the devs tried to fix the game after launch they just made matters worse.

Things like that ridiculous 3rd person back to the wall cover mode threw realism right out the window. REALISM - THE FORMER HALLMARK OF CLANCY TITLES. Realism was destroyed by games like GR2, GRAW, and Vegas.

Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield on the PC was the last great game in that series. It was also the last one (along with it's add-on Athena Sword and the free Iron Wrath) that possessed the ability to set up your entire mission plan with Go Codes prior to entering play. It had a weapon view and very intricate dangerous maps that was more than a collection of those aforementioned set pieces.

The console versions were trash compared to the full blown PC experience. That isn't the fault of the console but once again dumbed down design choices made by Redstorm under the approval of Ubisoft.

BTW if you get the Impreal Iron Sight mod for R63 then you have the best possible in both worlds and still a great tactical shooter that has almost no equal years later.

Thats why this one is getting 8/10, because it sucks. /s <--- sarcasm

SKullDugger4357d ago

You said it this new GR is horrible..

Dazel4358d ago

It's not Recon of old but all games evolve over time to suit a new demographic. However if they fix the lag and server crashes I will keep playing, loving it so far.

Yomaster4358d ago

GRFS is definitely not a bad game. I've enjoyed most of what it has to offer since I started playing on release day.

However, it DOES need a number of issues patched. Without some quick and heavy support from Ubisoft, I fear GRFS might suffer a pretty short lifespan...

FlashXIII4358d ago

It's a LOT better than the GRAW games. Tom Clancy brand was destroyed though a long time ago. Long gone are the real tactical days of games like the original ghost recon and raven shield.

Bathyj4358d ago

I liked the GRAW games.

And least they were tactical. You could issue orders to your teammates and it took planning.

Ubisoft's Recent Antics Have Me Fearful For The Sands of Time Remake

Hanzala from eXputer: "With Ubisoft's practices becoming increasingly anti-consumer lately, the destruction of The Sands of Time Remake looks almost inevitable."

Hey Ubi, here's a gun, don't shoot yourself in the foot.

At this point, only dummies have any hope left for Ubi-junk games.

Every industry has these issues

Some companies I’ve worked for were great and some were toxic as hell (UPS when I was a teenager was extremely toxic and I have heard it still is) It all starts at the top. They either hold people accountable , set standards and treat people with respect or the crap rolls downhill.
