Wii on 32% of wishlists: Sony PS3 on 19%, Xbox 360 on 17%.

"Microsoft is livid that Nintendo has taken the lead in the console wars with a technically inferior but more-fun-to-play system," says Geoff Keighley, host of Spike TV's Game Head. "Microsoft has struggled to make the system appeal to a broader consumer. Games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero III will help, but both of those titles are also available on the PS3."

Sony also hopes to woo shoppers weary of searching for Wiis. Howard Stringer said, "It's a little fortuitous that the Wii is running out of hardware."

According to Weekly Reader Research survey of 8-to-17-year-olds, Wii was on 32% of wishlists, the Sony PlayStation 3 on 19% and Microsoft Xbox 360 on 17%.

Nintendo reminds me of the biggest side show jack there is. in about 1 more year you'll see Nintendo pack up their little road show, carnival act and move onto another act altogether. gotta keep things of cheap nature new or else people will catch on.

Ps3 and Xbox 360 should be the only show in town... It's a shame people are too stupid, cheap and lack taste to see that. Such a shame.

EZCheez5999d ago

I never wanted Nintendo to end up going down the same road as Sega and was happy that their console had success. I've had just as much fun on Nintendo consoles as I have Sony ones, if not maybe more.

HOWEVER, one year later it's a completely different story. It's obvious the system isn't made for the more traditional gamers, and considering I fit into that category, it doesn't appeal to me at all. And frankly, it's appalling that a game like Super Mario Galaxy isn't selling well, but Nintendo has made their monster and now they have to deal with it.

The Wii might be the hot Christmas product this year, but how many times can anyone remember that hot Christmas product being the same thing two years in a row?

Change the url, its fvcked up. The current url links to a zdnet page that has maybe 3 lines on this story.

You guys are completely living in your own little world. Somehow you think that everything is going to turn out exactly the way you think it should.

You ignore the fact that Brawl, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing Wii, WiiFit, and a ton more sure-to-be-blockbusters are coming out next year.

It's OK to be against the Wii, but anyone who can honestly say they believe it's going to meet its downfall NEXT YEAR is going to be quite disappointed.

@below:
I never said WiiFit is good.

I said it will be a blockbuster. And trust me, it will.

Vicophine5998d ago

Wii fit being a good game? That was a good joke!

Vizion265998d ago

Okay, and if the Nintendo Wii continues to sell at the same rate by the end of next year will you continue to be the Wii-hater fanboy that you are and move the date of the death of the Wii to 2009 or will you think the Wii is the real deal amongst the mass market?

Elitist fanboys on here are so funny to me. Remember before the Wii was released they said the Wii wouldn't last a few weeks? It was completely sold out when it was released.

Then Spring 2007 comes around and people said the Wii was going to die soon. By that time the Wii was outselling both the 360 and PS3 COMBINED.

Summer 2007 comes around and they still made the same tired prediction. During that time the Wii was still outselling the 360 and PS3 COMBINED.

13 months later people are still saying the same thing and according to the VGchartz.com the Wii is still outselling the 360 and PS3 COMBINED.

I guess 2008 will be another year of the "Wii will die soon." Stay tuned folks and witness the irrational haterism of fanboys. HAHAHAHAHAHA

I seriously now think this site is populated with teenage boys who don't know any better.

What I'm worried about is how Nintendo might influence the future course of gaming. I sure hope to god Sony and Microsoft doesn't make their next line of consoles after the Wii, Low graphics, new control schemes and a ton of useless minigames. Nintendo might look like it's the best thing right now but what if it truly has set the seeds for the future of gaming, 20 years from now would you really want another Wii 3? or a Sony and Microsoft version of one? Nintendo could be poisoning the future for all we know. The proof is even showing in this generation on the Wii itself. Super Mario Galaxies touted as one of the best didn't even sell quite well as expected but a ton of minigames are bestsellers. even 5-10 years from now would anyone still want a Wii? What about the next Nintendo system? Are they going to re-create the Wii but with new controllers? I just hope Sony and Microsoft doesn't follow Nintendo because the next gen would just be so F'ing gimped I'd quit gaming all together or commit to PC gaming again. 1 Wii for one generation is enough but 3 Wiis for the next generation is 2 too many. Like I said before Nintendo can call themselves New-Generation but not Next-Gen I'll be damned if they ruin the hardcore gamer scene for the future.

EZCheez5998d ago

Amen brother.

That's the biggest problem. I've noticed in some of these previous posts by other guys that there is some defense for the Wii, but I consider it more of a defense for their purchase, not the console itself. These people are not the problem though. I consider them to be avid gamers like the rest of us and loving their consoles as most would. The problem is most people buying these Wii's aren't interested in video games for the most part and never have been. Selling though does effect Sony and Microsoft because if someone does buy a Wii, it also means that at the same time they are not buying a PS3 or 360.

And the last thing any of us want is for consoles to be dumbed down to cater to the mass market. I never played video games to fit in, and that's the last thing I want my console to try to do as well.

Snukadaman5998d ago (Edited 5998d ago )

Everyone knows by now too get the best experience you need to own a ps3/xbox360 too play the newer games like COD4 and assassins creed...bugs aside...No I think parents would rather buy the cheaper console themselves...while hardcore games own either ps3 or xbox 360 and purchase a wii for the cheap price...I am still happy with my purchase of the wii but I have been sort of let down with some games.....carnival games is abysmal...metroid prime was not fun....but some people enjoy those sort of games...Im having more fun playing crossbow training then anything I have purchased on the wii since resident evil 4.

@macalatus...I hope your wrong about that video game crash comment...most people on here forget there was a time when NO consoles were being made and games were so bad they tried too sell them for 1 or 2 dollars in giant bins. But With all three consoles i dont think we have that problem.....yet.

macalatus5998d ago (Edited 5998d ago )

@kydrice, EZCheez, and snukadaman,

Wow...I thought I was the only one having the same sentiments. I was sort of afraid to say the same things fearing the label of a 'Wii-hating' fanboy. One thing I would like to add (crazy theory it may be...I'll admit) is that I have a 'hunch' feeling that we may be approaching a second video game crash similar to the one that happened in the early '80s. I can't explain why...I think that with much of the games we see now are 'multi-platform', the video game industry is over-saturating itself. With the sole exception of die-hard fanboys, to regular people there aren't a whole lot of games that make the 360 more appealing to PS3 and vice-versa. Nintendo, for all we know, is probably banking that another video game crash is somewhere down the line (remember, Nintendo dominated and single-handedly started the industry after the Atari debacle). And combined with a possible 'consumer revolt' in the future over the endless format wars, different sku's, etc., Nintendo will once again take the reins. Once again just a crazy theory from me and not meant to be a flame-bait post.

@vision26,

If the Wii manage to outsell the PS3 and 360 COMBINED for the duration of this current con-gen war, the elitist Wii fanboys will rise-up and probably be more annoying than the PS3 and 360 fanboys COMBINED!! ;-)

MK_Red5998d ago (Edited 5998d ago )

"the elitist Wii fanboys will rise-up and probably be more annoying than the PS3 and 360 fanboys COMBINED!! ;-) "

True indeed. We already have one elite Super Mario Galaxy fan here that posts negative and troll comments in every PS3 and 360 game review story.

BrotherNick5998d ago

Annoying because there aren't any real fanboys on this site for nintendo except him.

ItsDubC5998d ago (Edited 5998d ago )

lol, you're complaining about ONE Wii fanboy troll but fail to mention the NUMEROUS 360/PS3 fanboy trolls that have been doing the same thing in Wii news stories since before the Wii even came out? That's a only a taste of what Wii fans on N4G have had to deal w/ on a daily basis.

MaximusPrime_5999d ago

it seems genuine so i approved it. Shame that there will be a lack of Wii.

More good news for PS3. I keep hearing good news almost everyday. good job Sony.

The Dark Knight5999d ago

kids only want ps3 cause its expensive, but they dont know that there paying for,

MaximusPrime_5999d ago

i dont think that is the case. Kids find more fun to play on Wii than PS3, nothing to do with the cost. PS3 (like xbox 360) is more aimed at 15 and over. Under that age, are welcomed.

MK_Red5999d ago

What do those 32% see in Wii!?

cloud360-7th_account5999d ago

wiitards are those who buy their game console based of a controller.

I feel sorry for them

Razzy5999d ago (Edited 5999d ago )

They see cute little Mario I guess. Who knows. I wouldn't let my son near my HDTV with that Wii remote, that's for sure. :)

Darkiewonder5999d ago

IDK.

But I can say that my friend was turned on by that. Got the Wii from her brother, started to rent games for it. Well, I won't say much after that :x

unsunghero285998d ago (Edited 5998d ago )

They decided that they wanted to play the best game of the generation.

@below:
Ehh, I wouldn't make such a generalization regarding the Wii's game quality. While it does have A LOT of cruddy third-party ports, it also has some absolutely outstanding gameplay experiences.

AngryTypingGuy5998d ago

I think that most people who enjoy the Wii like the simplicity of it. There are alot of older people and young kids who probably find the controllers of the 360 and PS3 to be a little intimidating due to so many buttons.

AngryTypingGuy5998d ago

I too think that most people get the Wii as a novelty because of the controller. The Wii severely suffers in game quality compared to the other two.

MK_Red5998d ago

@ unsunghero28 "Maybe They decided that they wanted to play the best game of the generation."

Mario Galaxy is NOT the best game of this gen. It's the mass appeal game of gen and one that appeals to everyone just like blockbuster movies like Transformers and Simpsons.

BioShock is THE best next-gen game so far because it's a true work of art AND is fun. It's like the The Godfather or Zodiac of movies. Not for every taste but definitly a masterpiece and true work of art.

BrotherNick5998d ago

Most people like to not play games as much as us hardcore...so the wii fits in perfectly. They go out more? maybe have better priorities.

MK_Red5998d ago

@ BrotherNick
It's not about how much people go out and how hardcore they are. I don't like Wii Sports but thats the game for many casuals. Thank God, I have my job as well s studying computer & electronics at college while doing my graphics projects, go out to parties and friend houses and gathers (And non of those friends are gamers or have a single console and game device in their homes) and still play games as a hardcore gamer.
WiiFit is beyond disgusting and is by no means a game or even a workout device. You'll understand when you try it. I still can't believe how bad, unfun and useless it felt.

I think the internet in general is really harsh and shortsighted on the Wii. While I don't own one myself(I own a ps3 and an upgraded PC), I can understand how some people can have an interest in it. I'm not gonna write it off as just a casual gamers console, but if you look at it from a perspective of those who aren't gamers, motion controlled gaming is definetly alluring.

The wii doesn't only have mario. The twisted thing about the "doesn't have any games" argument(directed at any platform) is that essentially it means "doesn't have any games I want enough to buy". Which is obviously the case since they don't own it. Which means basically anyone can say that a console doesn't have any games simply because they don't own it.

Eh, what am I rambling about, Second place woot woot. =D

7 Iconic Games That Put The PS1 On The Map

The first PlayStation is home to an array of iconic video games that went on to define the sheer significance of this console.

SimpleSlave2h ago

I think from a historical perspective I would change Spyro for Grand Turismo. It's the franchise that made the PS1 look like an absolute unit. Other than that, I can't argue with the rest when it comes to games that defined the PS1.

And to be honest, there should be space for Tekken 3, Wipepout and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater in order to round out the PS1 identity as the machine to own at the time.

With Tomb Raider 2, Silent Hill, Symphony of the Night, Tenchu, and Soul Reaver as backup contenders.

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell Of Ar Ciel Retro Review – Love Conquers All

Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.

Oh my god. I kinda wish this would get a remaster on PS5, it would be awesome. One of my favorite games on PS3.

That and 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a shame that some stuff is stuck on PS3.

Knightofelemia1d 7h ago

Ar Tonelico 3 is good I still prefer the first AT game. The music is solid in all the games and Akiko Shikata is a very talented singer bringing life to the game. Only annoying part is well I find is Saki I always choose Finnel or Tyria. KOEI so needs to HD remaster the franchise along with Ar Nosurge and Ciel Nosurge since it never came to North America. I would day one the Ar Toneliceo games and Ar Nosurge if they were remastered.

TheColbertinator1d 6h ago

I still have the limited edition of Qoga unopened. Unfortunately it never went up in value like I had hoped all these years.

Used to own all these quirky JRPG on ps3 good times. Wish I would have kept them all

Pacific Rim Pinball comes to Pinball FX

This could be fun as they make great tables. Go big or go extinct. Prime your senses for a neural handshake and step into the cockpit of a Jaeger. It is on you to cancel the apocalypse when Pacific Rim Pinball comes to Pinball FX on May 16.
