Sony PS3 in dramatic sales turn around

James Rivington reports for Tech.co.uk on 2 November that PS3 is on the charge in markets outside the US, and Xbox 360 may be in danger this Christmas even before the year of new Gran Turismo and WipEout arrives:

"The Sony PS3 could be about to pull off one of the biggest turn-arounds the games market has ever seen. After a slow start, where Sony's console was hampered by its high pricing and lack of quality games, the PlayStation 3 now looks like it's on a roll.

Now that the PS3 and Xbox 360 price-changes and various new models have settled into the market place, sales figures for both consoles are looking dramatically different."

Even though it is retarded, I approved it. Give the Sony fans something to dream about. BUT, the fact is there's not a major distributor in the US that wants the PS3 around. For the kids, there's a difference between distributor and retailer.

Sony lost a fortune on every console that was sitting in a warehouse when they cut their prices. They had to reimburse distributors who bought the consoles so that the distributors wouldn't lose money selling to retailers.

Sony couldn't afford to reimburse everyone. As such, there's a lot of angry companies right now.

The fact of the matter is that Wii sales have started to slow and the Xbox 360 is not doing that well outside of America. If you don't believe me, check the news.

Sorry, but the truth is that out of all the consoles, the PS3 has the biggest potential and was built to last (even if that did put a hefty price tag on it).

I'm a retailer from Europe (and if you don't believe me PM me and I'll send you all the details).
The fact is that Sony not only reimbursed all the distributors but also all the retailers that had consoles in stock in Europe...
Another fact is that nobody here in Europe, and I'm talking about retailers and distributors, don't want the X360 for one simple reason. Selling the PS3 leaves 12% profit for both the 40gb and the 60gb model, instead of 6.5% for the x360. That means that to make money as a retailer I would have to 2 elites to make the same money I'm making selling one 40gb model. So, no retailer in Europe favors the X360 instead of Sony and they advertise the ps3 instead.
That's why x360 in Europe doesn't stand a chanse...

The fact of the matter is the PS3 is outselling the 360 in the UK and Japan, thats not good. MS will lose if sony wins both of thoses, there markets are too big to be ignored. The worst part about this is the PS3 does not even have any big titles for it, what will happen when it does? Next year not only will sony wipe the floor with MS they will crush them. while i'll not try to be apart of this i'll say that.

the PS3 has seen a signifiacnt turn around in sales and it's now doing good. and will have a sure and solid sell through this christmas with high anticipated games like HS, rock band warhawk, Folklore , Ratchet,

big name Multiplats like COD4, GH3 and Assassins creed and big name exlusives like uncharted and ubisofts haze, and maybe even UT3. but what makes this so much more inbteresting is the fact that it software is looking so much better now. and should continue with a solid sell through as more quality games drop through out novemeber and December, January all the way through June of next year with releases of games like KILLZONE 2, LBP, GTA4, MGS4 and MGS0 in addition to games like LP and DMC4 and dark sector, turok, and GT5. it should sell quite well.

but i dont think the 360 is in doom or danger either at least not this year christmas, halo is guaranteed to sell greatly in next few weeks and it's games will certainly prove to be good enough, and they have affordable price points for all who wants one. so with that been said both consoles will be selling sweetly in the holiday season. though i know the PS3 will be looked at the most by everyone, as it's expected to sell well in japan with it's price cut on novemeber 11th and the has some strong games releasing this year for that region and the holiday season for europe and uk will be great, it's just NA that sony has alittle more work to do.

oh yea, PS2 vs. dreamcast... all kidding aside, the ps3 is shaping up to stomp the 360 by early next year things are going to be very very different from what they have been this year. Uncharted and Ratchet are going to have a bigger effect on the sales than some would like you to believe. And whats with this article? No system seller games? Preceptive analogy. Yep, Dreamcast tried the same crap, coming out one year before PS2. Like Dreamcast, 360 holds its own for a little while until the titles come in and prices go down in hardware...then its over. I remember when PS2's became easier to obtain off the shelf, I also remember that this availability coupled with the debut of GTA III killed the DC. Only thing is, I liked DC...it didn't give you 3 red lights. But your right, this PS3/360 thing sounds terribly like PS2/DC. Personally, I don't thing 360 will die altogether. DC died everywhere else, but Japan (Games still trickle onto it from times to time). I think that what PS3 finally gobbles up the 360, it will be an international slaying. Just like Xbox 1, ppl will still support it in the US.

But the PS3 is not "selling well" in Japan, and I think the PS3 price drop in the USA will just do more to confuse consumers and retailers than help things. Sony removes features from their cheaper systems (such as backwards compatibility, usb ports, wi-fi), while at the same time, the 360 has added two free games and HDMI out to the pro system, a wireless controller, HDMI, a 256meg memory card and free arcade games to the Core (now the "Arcade Pack"). So the "Cheapest" PS3, the one with no backwards compatibility at all,etc., is going against the new Pro 360, with 2 free games, etc., and the 360 is $50.00 cheaper. So people who SELL game systems to consumers (like me) are more likely to steer people away from the "tard pack" PS3 to the cheaper 360 PRO. Customers are always asking "does it come with any games" and in the 360's case, yes. Also, the huge number of titles overall, new, AAA titles this year, and the far larger number of used games (which retailers that sell them make most of their profit on) available for 360 make it the more attractive choice to SELL, because of the higher probablity of add-on sales, etc. Don't get me wrong-- some people who have been waiting for the PS3 to drop in price will now "jump in" (ouch- mixed marketing slogans there), but some will want to return their system when they find out it won't play their old PS2 games.

I completely agree. The more competition between the consoles we have, the better for gaming on both (or all, if you include the Wii) sides. We'll get cheaper consoles, a broader spectrum of games, and more innovations on all the platforms in order to entice users.

As far as I'm concerned, that sounds a good situation to be in to me. So, not only do I hope my console does well (PS3), but I /really/ hope others do as well. In the end, I'm a gamer (and a BD watcher, media streamer, whatever), and if something helps me get better games and a better service, then it's a big thumbs up from me.

Nonsense. It has good games now. I recently bought a PS3, and I'm very happy indeed. Of course, Xbox has good games, too (as does Wii), but that doesn't denigrate PS3's nicely forming lineup.

I like to think most of you have seen some of my posts by now and have seen that I'm no fanboy, I do own all current consoles and I've always stated that the PS3 is my favourite, But I in all honesty do believe the PS3 will pick up massively, The only example I can give is that I know a good few people that still see PS3 as a luxury item that they can only dream of owning, This Christmas will see a few of them get one but there are still a few going to be waiting a while to get one. When the PS3 does finally get it's HUGE name games like MGS4 then I think people on the sidelines will start turning to Sony. And when Sony starts to get it's casual games in like Singstar/Buzz (not saying Buzz is coming out just using an example) and the price of the PS3 is reasonable then general interest will peak too and people not hardcore into games will start buying the PS3. While I'm sure a load of you disagree with me just remember this is what I personally think so dont attack me please.

While I do not doubt that the PS3's price drop will increase sales. Your saying that the non-hardcore audiance will start moving attention to the ps3 when more casual games come out. The ps3 will still be the most expensive console on the market with the fewest games available so why would the casual audiance turn to it? The 360 will be cheaper, offer a lot more games and already has an abundance of casual games out on disc and XBLA.

I do agree that there are some amazing games coming out for ps3, but this christmas Xbox has the stronger lineup, the cheaper price and should win handily in america and probably stay out ontop in europe. Even if the ps3 starts beating 360 in sales, it would take well beyond 2008 in order for it to surpas the 360 in europe and NA.

Also the MGS series while amazing is not a big system seller. Each iteration of the series has sold less then the previous. MGS2 sold less then mgs, and mgs3 sold less then mgs2. If that trend continues MGS4 will not have as big of an impact on sales as some would hope.

But I could be wrong. I don't own a ps3 yet, and probably won't until FF comes out so you could very well be right that others like me are waiting a bit more before buying a ps3.

While my examples might not be the greatest I dont really know how to say what I'm thinking here. Like the last generation the PS2 was seen as a more casual gamers console with a fair few good quality party games remember it was on the PS2 that great games franchises like Guitar Hero, Singstar, Buzz etc started on and it waas for that reason it sold better than the Xbox. Now I know that the Wii is the king of party games and the casual gamers top choice, But I think that in the not too distant future a certain percentage of people will start to choose the PS3 over the Wii even 360. Why should the Wii drop its price? Nintendo can't even keep up with the supply at this price. A price drop would be useless to them. Only when their sales slow down would they do something like that and by then they might even be onto the Wii II.

Nintendo by far took the biggest gamble here and it paid off in spades. Not only are they outselling them by a longshot, they are the only ones making money on console sales even at that low price.

I don't see a reason for wanting any of the consoles to disappear. In the best case scenario having all 3 consoles succeed only helps the consumer.

Even having the Wii pull in new casual gamers will help the 360 and PS3. Why, because some of these consumers weren't previous gamers and now they are adding games to their leisure time. There will be a percentage that will take it to the next level and will probably become 2 or maybe even 3 console owners when all is said and done.

If the 360 and PS3 have large enough numbers, publishers won't have a choice but to make 2 versions of their games. Sony and MS will have to fork over more money to keep games exclusive, so gamers win on that front.

Right now the 360 has the game library (not to forget Halo 3) but the PS3 is just starting to hit their stride with titles that can sell the system. The big trump card the PS3 holds over the 360 is the blu-ray player. Alot of consumers are going to see that SpiderMan blu-ray included in the 40GB model and realize that it cannot only play games, but it can play movies too.

I think this holiday, you will see Wii still kicking everyone's behind and the PS3, 360 competing on about the same level.

well you can't base it off of one gaming store to know if its selling well or not. Its hard to say whats best for the consumer. IF there are three consoles going at it, then the price would be lowered and both would force to make great games. As I predicted the last console war when everyone had their heads up their ***, this one will go down as one of the biggest much ado about nothings in history.

I, in all my years of gaming, have never witnessed so much negativity labeled at one video game console ever.

The PS3 has to be the most cutting edge thing, with just about every new technology and your mother crammed in, and yet people just can't wait to hate and marginalize the thing.

360 sales are already picking up very strongly in Europe and PS3 and the price drop are doing better.

That's not a "HUGE" turnaround, wake me when it has 6 games that are absolutely worth owning like METAL GEAR SOLID 4 or WHITE KNIGHT STORY.

I don't know which way it will toss in EUROPE, but MS is driving a really hard campaign there. I somehow don't think PS will catch up once the likes of ALAN WAKE, DARK MESSIAH: ELEMENTS and MASS EFFECT get released in EUROPE along with the FABLE 2, NINJA GAIDEN 2 and a little video game known as "TOO HUMAN".

But who knows, all I know is 360 is doing great in Europe and once again has alot of FPS, adventure, and RPGs that appeal to Europeans as well as racing titles & the new Dance Dance Revolution + IDOL Master.

In the NA market, with 360 passing 13.5 million worldwide I doubt NA will ever be more than 360land since it has all the american/european shooting games + action games .....MASS EFFECT is certainly *NOT* going to do anything but sell systems. That's an epic game.

JAPAN SONY can take it back for all anyone cares but 360 is doing alright there and all I want is they succeed in Japan. That's enough.

As far as the 40 GB PS3 is concerned there is no doubt that it clearly is a better value than the Xbox 360 Pro. With Only 50 dollars more you get a Bluray Player (A Next gen DVD format that is on the verge of winning) built in Wireless adapter which costs around 60 bucks for the Xbox 360, SD Card Reader etc.

Also now that the Dual Shock 3 is on the verge of making its way on to the market and a solid gaming lineup i see no reason why you shouldn't pick up the PS3. I currently have the Xbox 360 and i love it without a shadow of a doubt i think the Xbox 360 is one of the best consoles around simply because of the games it had in 2007 and still coming, but i believe that THIS is the perfect time to buy a PS3 not only for the great first party games coming but the amount of features you are getting in the Console for only 50 dollars more is a joke.

If you bought an 360 and then bought elite to upgrade> wasted your money.
If you bought either 360 and plan on buying a new one with the Falcon or Jasper chip and/or built in HHDDVD again you're needlessly wasting more money.

ps3 owners, we defend the fact that we paid alot for our system and are waiting for the great games we know well get, we enjoy slightly above average to great games online (thats free) waiting for excellent games.

x360 owners, they defend their system because they have stuff now, they can say that they have great games and dont have to wait, but they pay 50 bucks a year for online which isnt perfect by any means. slowly they get more and more upset because ps3 is catching up and it frightens them..

The PS3 sold only 18,785 systems in Japan during that time period. Xbox 360 sold only 3,718 in Japan during that time period. So that means in Japan the PS3 sold 15,000 more systems than the Xbox 360 did.

In Europe, during this short time period when the PS3 saw a sales spike due to the price drop--which lasted less than one month when the price dropped in North America--the PS3 outsold the Xbox 360 by 10,000 systems.

However, in North America, the rest of Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world, the total number of systems sold was FAR greater than in Japan, the United Kingdom, or the small number of European countries where the PS3 outsold the Xbox 360 by a slight margin.

In North America, Europe (all of overall Europe), and Asia, the Xbox 360 outsold the Playstation 3 by over 400,000 systems last month!!!

Each month this year, the Xbox 360 has outsold the Playstation 3 by HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of systems "Worldwide."

Sony can brag about outselling the Xbox 360 by a 5:1 ratio in Japan, but in reality that means the PS3 sold only 15,000 more systems than the Xbox 360 in that market...Wheras, in North America, when the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 by a 5:1 ratio last month, the Xbox 360 ended up outselling the PS3 by over 400,000 systems!!!

The reason for that is because the North American market is SO MUCH BIGGER than Japan.

Playstation 3's wordwide sales are a very distant third from Xbox 360 and Wii. Japan represents less than 15% of the market for home consoles at this point in time, and this Christmas is not a good one for consoles in Japan.

The FACT is, the Playstation 3 has already lost this console generation. There were always "Sega Fanboys" who kept saying the Saturn would beat the original Playstation, and that the Dreamcast would beat the PS2...but it was determined very early who the real winners would be. We are living in the generation of the "Xbox Wii60"; that is why there are magazines that focus on the Xbox 360 and the Wii, but NOT the Playstation 3.

Xbox 360 is by far the #1 game system in every Genre of games. That much is very common knowledge.

Playstation 3 is completely missing games in several Genres. That much is also very common knowledge.

Example: Real-Time Strategy genre...Xbox 360 currently multiple RTS games, including two of my favorites--Command & Conquer 3, and Lord of the Rings: Battle for Mid-Earth 2).

The Playstation 3 has zero games in the RTS genre!

There are five additional RTS games scheduled for release on the Xbox 360, including Halo Wars. The four 3rd party RTS games are ONLY being released for Xbox 360 and PC...they are not being released for the Playstation 3.

It goes without saying that the Xbox 360 is by far the champion of the First-Person Shooter and Third-Person Shooter genres, with games like Halo 3, Bioshock, Gears of War, and Mass Effect.

Xbox 360 is also the champion of every genre of Sports.

Look at the way all three Football games from both EA Sports and 2K Sports are so much better on Xbox 360. The best versions of Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, and Hockey are all best on the Xbox 360...the PS3 versions don't even let you talk online while you play them....and it is common knowledge that being able to talk trash while playing sports is what helps make them so awesome.

RPG: The Xbox 360 has a more impressive lineup of RPG games than the PS3 or the Wii. Just count the number of games currently available for both systems, and look at the ratings. PS3 fans can say, "Final Fantasy 13" all they want, but the fact is, Final Fantasy 13 won't be released until 2009, and there is now a great chance that it will be released for Xbox 360, as well. Plus, Xbox 360 owners will be able to play the awesome RPG games like Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata later in the year...and then there is the Action-RPG game called Mass Effect which is always rated "Best RPG," and "Game of the Show," at all the trade shows.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is arguably the best RPG available on any system, and the Xbox 360 has the higest rated version of that game. Two Worlds is an awesome RPG that fans of Oblivion love, and it is only on Xbox 360 and PC.For now, Xbox 360 fans who enjoy Dragon Quest style games can play Blue Dragon, and Action-RPG fans can play Phantasy Star Universe, and Final Fantasy fans can play Final Fantasy XI on the Xbox 360. Xbox 360 even has the best version of the Action-RPG game called Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

Clearly, the Xbox 360 is the best next-gen RPG system.

Fighting games: Xbox 360 has Dead or Alive 4 Online, the highest rated version of Fight Night Round 3. Street Fighter 2, Fatal Fury Special, Mortal Kombat 3, and the upcoming Virtua Fighter 5 Online that is significantly better than the PS3 version in terms of Artificial Intelligence, Graphics, and Special Features, and obviously Online play.

Racing games: This is an easy one...Xbox 360 has far more, and far better racing games than the Playstation 3. Just look at awesome Xbox 360 racing games like Forza Motorsport 2, Project Gotham Racing 3, Burnout Revenge, Testdrive: Unlimited, MotoGP 06 and 07, all the Need for Speed games, and so many others. Plus, the best racing game ever made with the upcoming Project Gotham Racing 4.

Those are really awesome games...not just demos, or unfinished versions. Those are awesome games that are out now or will be completed by the end of this year.

Xbox 360 even is by far the best system in lesser known Genres such as Puzzle games, Party games, and Family games.

Look at how Microsoft made sure to get games like Tetris: Evolution as an exclusive Puzzle game. And there is Hexic, which is included on the Xbox 360 hard drive. Now there is even Hexic 2. Street Fighter Puzzle Fighter is another one...and Zuma, Lumines, Bejeweled, and others make it so Xbox 360 is clearly the best for Puzzle games.

Party games: Look at games like Bomberman Live; that is the best party game I have ever played. Fusion Frenzy 2 is another good one that is fun. Viva Piniata has great gameplay style! And the upcoming Viva Piniata Party Animals is a great game in the Party genre!

Family: Games like Guitar Hero 2, Rock Band, Boom Boom Rocket, all the Card games, the Board games, the Platform games like Kameo: Elements of Power, Beautiful Katamari, and all the Disney games, and the upcoming Scene-It that includes four controllers for Xbox 360 all give 100% confirmation that the Xbox 360 is by far the #1 system in every Genre of gaming this generation.

Bottom line: Xbox 360 really does have a great lineup of games in every genre, and that is why it has sold so well. Xbox 360 now outsells the Playstation 3 worldwide by hundreds of thousands of systems each month.

Bioware has made it 100% clear that Microsoft Game Studios is the Publisher of Mass Effect.

1up.com has also made it 100% clear that Microsoft signed an Official Contract with Bioware that states Micrsoft Game Studios will be the Official Publisher of Mass Effect, and the next two sequels in the trilogy.

EA may have purchased Bioware, but EA is powerless in terms of previous contractual obligations that Bioware has been involved with...that is part of what Corporate Acquisitions are all about.

*** And by the way, Mass Effect is a game that was optimized for the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 can display 500,000,000 polygons per second. The Playstation 3 can only display 275,000,000 polygons per second. That is why developers say it is easier to port a game optimized for the PS3 to the Xbox 360 than it is to port a game optimized for the Xbox 360 to the PS3...

But the Xbox 360 is almost always the Lead Development platform, because the Xbox 360 is ALWAYS signifantly easier to program games for as the Lead Platform. Developers shouldn't don't want to concern themselves with how difficult "ports" will be to a PS3 system that is a very distant third in terms of worldwide sales. That is the whole reason why so many games are released exclusively for the PC and Xbox 360, but NOT released for the Playstation 3.

*** PS3 fans should be thankful that Mass Effect is being Published by Microsoft Game Studios, and will NOT be released for the PS3...because if Mass Effect were to be released for the PS3 over a year later, it would be the same situation happens 99% of the time--the Xbox 360 version will still be FAR BETTER, even though the PS3 version was released so much later...and what's worse is that the PS3 versions of games released so much later COST MORE than the Xbox 360 versions, even though the PS3 versions are NOT as good!

For example: Rainbow Six: Vegas was released on the Playstation 3 seven months after the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 version was STILL BETTER than the PS3 version. By the time the PS3 version was released, the Xbox 360 version had become a best-seller for the price of only $39.99. This means consumers were given the option of buying the inferior PS3 version for $59.99, or the superior Xbox 360 version for $39.99.

This situation isn't going to change in the future.

Proof: Lost Planet

Lost Planet was released for the Xbox 360 in Janauary of 2007. Lost Planet will be released over a year later for the Playstation 3 at some point in January of 2008. The Xbox 360 version has become a best-seller, and is avalable NOW for only $29.99, and the Xbox Live Downloads with extra features are available for FREE! The Playstation 3 version will cost $59.99, and the graphics are NOT as good as the Xbox 360 version.

The Xbox 360 version of Lost Planet has anti-aliasing that eliminates jagged lines that appear on the Playstatoin 3 version. And there are FAR more polygons in the Xbox 360 version. Objects that have enough polygons in the Xbox 360 version to appear circular are forced to use lower-polygon models that take an octogon shape in the PS3 version. And the lighting and texture quality in the PS3 version isn't nearly as good as the Xbox 360 version.

2K Games specifically said that they originally tried to bring Bioshock to the PS3, but the PS3 hardware was NOT capable of handling that game. Bioshock required performance that only the Xbox 360 and high-end PCs could offer.

It's the same thing with Mass Effect. The Playstation 3 would NEVER be able to display graphics like that. Just look at the FACT (I repeat FACT), that the Playstation 3 can't even maintain smooth framerates in games like F.E.A.R., or Madden Football 2008 at only 30 frames per second at 720p. The Xbox 360 version of F.E.A.R. has a perfectly smooth framerate, and so does Madden Football 2008 running at 60 (yes, sixty) frames per second at 1080p resolution on the Xbox 360.

Xbox 360 simply offers a significantly greater level of performance than the Playstation 3 does. That is why the Xbox 360 games look so much better, and that is why the Xbox 360 has sold so much better than the Playstation 3.

Halo 3 - Halo 4 - ALL Future Halo games

Microsoft owns the Intellectual Property Rights to the Halo franchise, NOT Bungie!

In fact, Microsoft could literally Develop and Publish a Halo game WITHOUT Bungie.

teamxbox.com recently conducted a survey that asked whether or not Microsoft should ask Bungie to do the next Halo game. Virtually everyone voted yes. In the interview, teamxbox asked Bungie if they would like to work on the next Halo game when Microsoft wants to start working on one. Bungie said that they certainly hope Microsoft would come to them first to Develop the next Halo game.

*** But Bungie could NEVER release ANY sort of Halo game on another console Platform. Perhaps in three or four years we might see Halo 3 released for the PC, but Microsoft Game Studios will be the Publisher, NOT Bungie...and that is the reason why Xbox 360 is the only console that Halo games will ever be played on.

that the PS3 packs more punch with it's Cell+RSX combo. Three off the shelf power pc cores CAN NEVER match up to a specialized processor like the Cell.

IMO the 360 makes a good second console to own.

thats what I don't get about hardcore PS3 haters, I own both consoles because both have good games on them. I still enjoy playing Gears from time to time, my kid likes Halo, and when Mass Effect comes out will be enjoying that game too. That doesn't stop me from acknowledging that Sony built a hell of a console with many great games already here and more on the way. I notice alot of the hardcore xbots see Sony doing nothing right. Sony told us that the power of the PS3 will be seen in the next 3-4 years. Guys.. 3-4 years? It's beacause all multi games are also released for the PC and multicore CPU's like 6 or 8 cores will be available @ 2010-2012. And no dev will programm EXTRA for the PS3 just to use all cores expect of exklusives.

Sony is a company they would NOW make a LCD/ Plasma with 3000x2000 pixel and say, this is the best on market although it could be used in 2015, lol.

Ok, I have a 360 and PS3. Love them and use them equally both. On the topic of graphics.
Best graphics i'v seen so far on 360 = Gears of War, Bioshock
Best graphics i'v seen so far on PS3 = GT5 Prolouge (download it from Japan), Killzone (rolling demo), Heavenly Sword

I run both machines on the same 720p native HD projector.
The general benchmark of graphics is noticably better on PS3. Anyone who has both has seen this for themself.

I would argue that GT5 Prolouge has the most photo realistic graphics to date (for consumers). In any event the PS3 has already flexed its muscles a few times and shown real audiences (owners) its power and intentions.
Now Gears of War. Simply stunning and one of the best game i'v played. However you will notice that most cut scenes do not follow on seamlessly from active gameplay (This is harsh but true)- Playing games such as Heavenly Sword you will understand how the Cell/Rsx can be managed to engrose users with flowing content with alot of hardwork.
Its these practises that makes games all the more realistic and believable.
And Yes for my angry and fellow 360 diehard in denial friends (not all of you either), im well aware... the 360 GPU has marginally more shaders than ps3 and somewhat a slight advantage on paper.
However, the quality of post production and post processing effects that ps3 can do with its hardware really sets them appart.

This doesnt however make 360 useless but it is clearly evident that PS3 has LOADS more potential. Although this potential is mainly realised by Sony and the exclusives that take ages to make it to the shelves. It doesnt change the fact that a higher benchmark is currently realised.
