130,000 Slim & Lite Sold On Day 1

Gpara has the result for the performance of PSP Slim & Lite (PSP-2000), which officially went on sale yesterday in Japan. Apparently around 130,000 units were sold in Japan, making it the second biggest one day sale for the handheld in the country since the launch of PSP-1000 back in 2004.

I'm just not getting it. Is it called Slim & Lite? Or is there two versions one PSP Slim and PSP Lite? Can they not figure out what to call it and they give it two names? What's going on!

Well if it is just the new version of PSP selling then well done. Wish it was more of an overhaul then just making it smaller and liter but what can you do.

hella whip6072d ago

Its called Slim & Lite because the new one is both slimmer and lighter than the old one.

Twizlex6072d ago

No, it's called Slim and Lite because PSP Lite was just a LITTLE too much of a rip-off of DS Lite, so they threw that extra word in there to make it "original". Next Sony's going to come out and say that Nintendo is copying their strategy.

i think im gonna pick one of these up next year to coincide with playTV, its gonna be great to be able to steam movies/live or stored tv off you ps3 to your psp anywhere in the world!

The psp had it's second birthday March 2007 worldwide. Now games like Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Monster Hunter, Echochrome, God of War, Calling all cars, etc. are showing up. The psp should have a great 2008. I purchased a ds back in November of 2004. Playing Mario 64 on the touch screen was very clunky but fun (the nub on psp is way easier for 3d games). I did not even touch my ds again in 2005 until Mario Kart DS came out christmas 2005. Then I waited to May 2006 for New Super mario bros, the ds finally heated up worldwide with a $130 redesign. I was a little pissed, so it was done for me. I purchased a psp in fall 2006, and love everyday of it! Echochrome and God of war look too sweet to pass up. New Portable Ops, Kingdom Hearts, and many more on the way! Psp, it's your turn.

PSP deserves big sales. They say it lacks games. It may be true about overall number of games but in regards to AAA games, PSP is nothing short of DS. DS has so many games but only handfull of them are great and PSP has the same amount of good games. PSP FTW!

crck6072d ago

the amount of AA (8 and up) games as the DS. The problem is alot of them are ports. But for a mobile only gamer the PSP does have the superior library.

Escorcio6072d ago

The Psp slim & Lite was out on 14th September in the UK (WOOOO, We're finally first to get something!)
Does anyone know what the figures were?

Let's Be Real, There Is Nothing "Micro" About Microtransactions Anymore

Microtransactions have gotten ridiculously overpriced in recent years, with titles now offering cosmetic skins worth more than some games.

Terry_B1d 7h ago

Yup..this is 100% the sad truth

z2g10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

The elephant in the room tho is personal accountability. It’s easy (albeit basic) to blame the big, bad corpo, but microtransactions wouldn’t be where they are if gamers didn’t spend money on them. As it stands the MTs usually make more than the game. Publishers know raising game prices will cause backlash, so they do MTs to compensate. But the adult conversation is consumers determine the success of products with their wallets. So if MTs are a huge thing, it’s because we as consumers told them we like them by giving them a lot of money for them. So if you don’t want them to be a thing, convince your fellow gamers to stop buying them and expect that games will be decently more expensive. You all can disagree all you want, but reality is a bitch, and eventually you have to live in it.

anast8h ago

Trying to convince people is the least realistic thing. If we are trying to be adults, actual action is what changes things not "convincing campaigns" on platforms owned by the people 'you' are going against. It's madness and idealistic.

ApocalypseShadow3h ago

Easier said than done. I've told gamers for years to not buy micro transactions, expensive dlc, etc. Gamers bought it anyway. Didn't fit on a DVD that would have fit on a Blu-ray disc.

I also told some gamers to not pay for online like Xbox Live because it would force the rest of the industry to only offer playing online if you pay for it. Told them not to support a broken console that Red Ringed. To not support Xbox One because Microsoft tried to take away game ownership and how you play your games. To not pay for a console by one manufacturer where a, now 3 trillion worth, didn't make enough games at the level of Nintendo or Sony who are worth less money.

How much of that did you support anyway with your money then go back and read your comment again.

isarai23h ago

I mean except for the amount of content you're paying for.

Hugodastrevas12h ago

There never was, the only time I paid for a microtransaction was on Blacklight Retribution (PS4) and it was because I enjoyed the game a lot so I felt the devs should get something for all that entertainment (€5 "membership")

-Foxtrot11h ago

The devs wouldn’t get that though, that shit goes straight to the higher ups who do f*** all let’s be honest.

Hugodastrevas10h ago

Probably, but I wasn't as cynical back then and €5 wasn't a big ask to get the guns with grinding instead of renting them, and the game was good (still is on the PS5/4)

CrimsonWing6910h ago(Edited 10h ago)

I couldn’t believe what Blizzard charged for horse armor and cosmetics in Diablo 4…

I remember back in the day when a season pass was $15 and you got everything included in it. Now, I see them at $60 and you still don’t get everything.

CantThinkOfAUsername3h ago

That's just Blizzard. Unlike Bethesda's $0.99 horse armour, Blizzard's first microtransaction, Sparkle Pony, cost $15.

Shane Kim10h ago

As soon as gaming wasn't deemed nerdy anymore, and reached the casuals this happened. We're smart, but casuals play mobile games and other stuff, and don't really have anything to compare. They think gaming is supposed to be like this and pay for in game purchases.

Keoken Interactive lays off majority of team after failing to find funding at GDC

Deliver Us Mars developer Keoken Interactive has laid off the majority of its staff after struggling to secure funding …

The industry model and standards and who's in place to approve/disapprove have changed ^ what Keoken is feeling now is much like the Mobile burst 15 years ago. Expect more to come out of your own finances. Investors are treating games like movies and now (thank$ a lot for involving yourself hollywood) only the big (and money blind) investors get involved, effectively killing a lot of content that would come out with proper non-gate-kept and/or with incentivized funding.

Markdn5d ago

And when you only make a fraction of your games worth on gamepass you suffer

Tacoboto5d ago

Palworld and Manor Lords are so suffering.

RiseNShine4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Sorry but i couldn't care less, Deliver us Mars was as woke game as they come, climate change disaster, all female cast plus only a comic relief indian guy (it takes only 5 minutes into the game for the main female character to say how smart she is compared to the guy), evil white guys, ugly females, then add generic gameplay and puzzles (how many times do you have to cut things with a laser for gods sake), you can't change anything in how the events develop so 0 agency in the story, sub par graphics even while using UE4. So well, go woke go broke, that's how it works.

Miacosa4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

That stinks but with a 68 average critic rating on their games probably made it difficult for people to invest considering there is a bloat of games getting made these days.

ROCKY284d ago

You guys will be back with team strength and funding !
