Microsoft paid $50 million for GTA IV Downloadable Content

From a conference call held with Take 2's CFO last week:

"The first 25 million is for the first episodic content package that 's supposed to go out and that is in March of '08. That's why it moved into current because it's in the next 12 months. The second 25 will be for the second episodic, the episode, and that will be later in fiscal '08."

MS is surely betting that they're going to BANK off these GTA fans who pay a rediculous amount of money for the episodic content. That you can be sure of...

Personally. I don't mind additional maps but the story itself should be told whole, and episodic content says nothing more than a way for us to milk your money. I can see an expansion when it's truly an expansion and offers a vast amount of new gameplay. But the single player aspect should be told in it's entirety and shouldn't involve added content that the purpose of is to generate revenue and profit...

Gamer luv6181d ago

Well if thats wat you think, dont buy it simple as.

But for those who do, i bet they have a blast.

Seraphim6181d ago

the game as it is will be suffice and adequate enough to "have a blast" with. You don't have to get ripped off by buying episodic content to "have a blast" with the game.... It's a joke. And the more people who buy into the more the industry will begin to think they can get away with it. This can only be the start of a downward spiral which isn't going to be good for consumers...

ImWithStupid6182d ago

360 fanboys disagree when you tell em that take two needed bailing out of possible chapter 11 and Sony told em to take the money. they must know something we don't? a dissapointing GTA?? hmmmmm

Marceles6182d ago

50 mil = chump change for MS, but I hope it'll be worth it

gta_cb6182d ago

yeh, although i will be trying to buy GTA IV the day it comes out i will not buy the DLC untill i have learnt whats included. i will be disapointed if it was just extras like customizing your clothes etc.

Honeal2g6181d ago

Bill gates probably has like a 50 million dollar coin or something just tossed to take-two. told em keep the change lol...

reaperxciv6181d ago

yeah you're right on that one, $50M is just peanuts to Billg, he earns more than that in a day

Xi6182d ago

how big is the episodic content? Like hl episode 1/2, pretty much new game big? or just some new models and missions, for 25mil a pop I'm guessing they'll be like new games.

MoonDust6182d ago

I'm sure they will make it all back when they charge for it.

ER1X6182d ago

10 bucks each at least (800 points a pop).

Diselage6182d ago

Pending how big they are who knows maybe 1200 points a piece.

gta_cb6182d ago

yeh its actually worrying as they prob know that they can higher the price as GTA is a hugh franchise and people will buy the content, i hope its not that expensive.

N64: Recompiled — Creating Native PC Ports Is A Godsend For Game Preservation

"In a time when companies don't care about preserving games, I have high respect for the creators of projects like N64: Recompiled." - Hanzala from eXputer.

gold_drake1d 13h ago

it is, i might be finally able to play Snowboard kids 1 full screen ha.

purple10115h ago

il beat you to the ski-lift,

framerate on snowboard kids was shocking, do you remember./?

talking of shocking framerate and kart racers style games,
Sony had a gem on ps3, with 'Modnation Racers' but again, framerate was so terrible, still fun though, indeed, when is drifting sideways not fun, the answer is never. we have not seen enough of that game, technically some people made race tracks/games in dreams and little big planet etc, but its just not the same,!!! grrrrr

morning rant over.

here, relive some ,memories. https://www.youtube.com/wat...

itBourne13h ago

The load time on ModNation where also excruciatingly long... But man oh man I wish that game took off more, so much fun! Could turn off garbage rubber banding, I had karts with 100's of stickers to design some crazy cool stuff, custom tracks. Fantastic undeappreciated game

gold_drake9h ago

SK1 had a fairly good framerate. sk2 maybe not so much ha

Some food for thought:

Would you donate your physical copy of a really rare/expensive cartridge (Conkers's BFD, Bomberman 64 Second Attack, Ogre Battle 64, the two Castlevania titles, etc) to those managing this project for the greater good of getting them preserved online for all to experience at some point?

UltimateOwnage9h ago

As long as it meant they never took money from Patreon and invited a DMCA takedown / lawsuit by Nintendo to take it all away. After seeing the whole debacle with Yuzu I now question how long any of these teams can maintain game preservation efforts through emulator development, or otherwise.

franwex5h ago

I mean. They may borrow them…

Profchaos3h ago

Is it realistically needed though I would not personally give anyone my old carts for games that are already persevered and easily available online

The snippet of ray tracing at the end of the og trailer was low-key amazing. I found out thanks to Nerrel who also made a texture pack for MM, and i can't wait to see how much more great this game will be in the near future. With model swaps, ray tracing, retextures, and a more quicker process than decompilation, it's gonna bring new life to N64 games.

Profchaos3h ago

There might need to be a bit of clarification recompilation is not the same as decompilation.

This is basically a container to excite the rom within but allows for all sorts of beat additions and tricks like new lighting effects such as ray tracing to be added.

But decompilation would ultimately be king as it allows for a widespread porting capabilities and uses the assets from games to build a native install for PC or whatever the target system is e.g Mario 64 for PC or sonic mania for psvita / wii

How about you actually SHOW wtf you're talking about

Nacho_Z6h ago

Always annoying when articles do that.

I agree with them that the tv show was a bit on the clean side. They got loads right regarding set design etc but there's room for improvement.

gold_drake7h ago

i dont. it hurts my eyes. but im fairly ssensitive when it comes to that sort of stuff.
