Dyack Banned from NeoGAF, 'the Worst Forum Out There'

Kombo writes: Dennis Dyack of Silicon Knights has received a prestigious honor: Being banned from NeoGAF, with whom he's recently had some issues.

So, what was the last straw?

I . L O V E . F I N A L . F A N T A S Y . X

and Bloodmask tried to get rid of this article. hahahaha

La Chance5740d ago (Edited 5740d ago )

wow , that was pretty straightforward from NeoGaf. I think its obvious they hate Too Human for whatever reason even before the reviews rolled in and now that the reviews are here the just let themselves go.Its obvious now they want this game to flop hard.

"so with the majority of reviews condemning your magnum opus to mediocrity"

Both are to blame , NeoGAF is as guilty as Dyack but Dyacks personnality doesnt help either.Dyacks got an irratating personnality and is arrogant according to what I saw in the interviews.
Anyway looks like the internet, the forums etc is really a very important factor today in the videogame industry. They can pretty much make or break a game.

BTW Im not at all familiar with NeoGaf : can somebody quickly tell me a bit about it , and compared to N4G etc.Are they really as bad as Dyack claims ?

Hentai5740d ago

Neogaf isn't a terrible place. It's a place where people really want to have video game discussion without childish fanboyism.

morganfell5740d ago

He had it coming. I am amazed by people that claim to know all about Too Human and know about gaming yet are apparently unaware of the way he went to that forum and attacked Neogaf and then attacked Neogaf in interviews with other publications and sites.

He had it coming a long time ago. How smart can a dev be for attacking his audience.

"Hold on there I have my right foot dead in my sights!"

AlterEgo5740d ago (Edited 5740d ago )

NeoGAF basically = the biggest online gaming community there is...with just shy of 40,000 members...of which some are industry folk including developers (Denis Dyack included...well, not anymore I guess), Ryan Payton has an account, James Stevenson of Insomniac games, writers from gaming sites like 1UP and many others...

NeoGAF is also home to many company and retail insiders, employees etc who get invited/access to lots of exclusive events/betas/shows that most people dont.

They usually have the most accurate information, before anybody else does and there's none of the console war business (for the most part) due to strict supervision of posts by the mods and things people get away with here on N4G in the open zone (and in the gamer zone sometimes) are easily perma-bannable.

Not to mention you can't just create an account. You have to create a request, and be individually approved (which for me took about 3 weeks) before you can post.

You can however, view posts without having an account.

La Chance5740d ago

wow , I never knew Neogaf was that big...

So N4G is a midget compared to NeoGaf.

Thanx for the info bubbles

juuken5740d ago

Dyack...when you're being too arrogant, people will not take it very likely.

NeoGaf is actually a good forum.

nycredude5740d ago

I believe the politically correct term "little person" or "Dwarf".
Sorry to get on you but the last time I used midget in public I got an earful. I just wanted to spare you the same fate.

But on topic this guy is a douche and he deserves whatever lashings he gets.

Winter47th5740d ago (Edited 5740d ago )

Could've been handled better without making a fiasco out of it.

Wonder if they make threads for every member they ban, if it was a matter of proving a point, then the thread should've been giving 'n taking between Denny and the Gaffers, but kicking him the hell out and not closing the thread just to add more salt to the wound with over 20 pages of ridicule replies to wipe his dignity infront of the whole community, that is just a low blow and frankly unprofessional.

Yes, he had it coming, but how much is that circus of a thread really is proving his point about it being the worst forum?

m91058265739d ago

Merceles, that GIF is so full of win it's about to explode!

hardmetal5739d ago

Bad enough to prove his point.

Winter47th5739d ago

Ditto Hardmetal, glad to see I'm not the only one on the same page, though he really should learn when to put a sock in it, the way this whole thing's headed ain't for the best of anyone.

All I know about it is that if something is news breaking, well it's usually from someone there or posted there. So I can imagine Dyack isn't the only one who doesn't appreciate the site. Oh well, Majority rules.

Mao5740d ago

Sorry Dennis about your game. See you in another 9 years with Too Human 2...maybe you'll call it, TWO HUMAN! GET IT? Oh it doesn't matter...

The game tanked, the defense force is out in record numbers...but it's not helping. Bad times for SK and Dennis Dyack.

badz1495739d ago

the last one in the trilogy will be titled "Three Humans"

King Me5740d ago

he got banned!?!?!wow, the guys game is getting horrible reviews left and right and now he just got the ban hammer XD!!

gambare5740d ago

he was banned from NG for spamming how good Too human was.

Montrealien5739d ago

generally mixed reviews are not horrible,

case in point:

http://www.metacritic.com/g...

And GAF are mostly pricks who see themselves above it all,

from there FAQ

For Members that haven't been approved:

Q: Why haven't I been approved?!?!?!
A: Because we go through every single application by hand, and there is only one person who does it. On top of that, we do them in batches and they aren't dealt with on a regular basis. You may have to wait 2 minutes, you may have to wait 3 months. The only thing you can do is wait. SO WAIT. Do not PM people about why you haven't been approved, we don't care.

Q: My E-mail is banned? What did I do???
A: Nothing. We have a f*cking massive list of free e-mail services that are banned from this site. Yours was one of them.

Dyack stood up to them, granted in a very immature and stupid way, and they snuffed him.

Pain5739d ago (Edited 5739d ago )

a dev got banned? Thats new.

but NeoGAf is emo central anyways so meh~

I Miss When Games Came In Full Package Rather Than Broken Mess Filled With Microtransactions

The gaming industry has drifted away from offering full-fledged games to putting unfinished titles that are jam-packed with microtransactions on the market.

It's not the fault of the gaming industry. Gamers were told what was happening, were warned about where this would lead, did nothing, and now are acting like it's the fault of publishers that they kept buying these games and investing in MTX. If only those gamers at that time felt as strongly about these things as they do Helldivers 2.

Hugodastrevas1d ago

I don't think MTX target the common gamer but instead predate on the so called "whales". It's gambling pure and simple.

Christopher22h ago

Oh, so it's okay to buy MTX-laden games as long as you don't spend money on MTX, which has led to even more MTX-laden games with even more predatory practices where content that used to be unlocked is now behind paywalls?

C'mon now people. You gave the corporations and inch, and they kept taking and taking. Community members told people that investing in these things alone would only lead to more and more MTX and putting more and more behind paywalls. But it's only the fault of the corporations, not the people who kept supporting it with purchases as more and more was taken away?

Hugodastrevas22h ago

@Christopher that's a straw man, I didn't say any of that I just added context.

-Foxtrot19h ago

Well exactly

People stand up for something which seems small to them and they get called whiners or negative. Then years later the shit hits the fan and they all go “why is this happening?” Like they are innocent.

The issue aswell is younger gamers who grew up with all this thinking it’s normal and we all just look like old farts yelling at clouds when we’re trying to help us all, even them.

Crows901h ago

Who woulda thought that listening to your elders could be a good idea...too late now

Hofstaderman1h ago

It all started with that damn horse armour. Back then I thought nobody was stupid to buy into that crap. How wrong I was....

CrimsonWing6916m ago(Edited 11m ago)

I like how people move the goal-post. First it’s, f*ck any game with MTX’s, f*ck GaaS games, f*ck this game with “optional” MTX’s (Dragon’s Dogma 2), Helldivers 2 is ok because it’s fun and even though it has Battle Passes or Season Passes and MTX’s it’s ok because… you don’t need to buy them? 🤷‍♂️

HellDivers 2 is the best selling game this year. Just think about that, games like FF7 Rebirth sold poorly, but a continuous game that lives off recurring revenue sells extraordinarily well. Then we’ll hear everyone b*tch about a GaaS future.

I really wonder what this industry would’ve been like if we never gave into this crap, and yes I’m saying “WE” since I’m guilty of it, but man it’s literally no closing the door once it’s been opened.

This is what amazed me the most when playing hours upon hours of stellar Blade version 1.00.00 no bugs, no crashes, no sudden drops in frames, no screen tear, no falling from the world, just a complete package on a game under 50GB.
I think Korea will play a major role in gaming in the long run , because they're releasing banger after banger.

isarai1d ago

Still pretty common to find if you stay away from the AAA publishers, in the last 10yrs ive probably only bought like 3 games combined from EA/ACTIVISION/UBISOFT. Even now i still buy games that work right out the box perfectly fine. Just recently got like 6hrs into Alone in the Dark, and not a single sign of any of that bs, really enjoying my time with it.

shinoff218316h ago

There's such a misconception about every game needing a patch, this and that when in reality it's not even close. You nailed it isarai

Crows901h ago

It's really only AAA devs and publishers that seem to have these constant problems

z2g3h ago(Edited 2h ago)

And we as gamers have to accept our role in that. Constantly never being satisfied. Constantly demanding more while paying less. Constantly demanding better frame rates, better graphics, more modes and faster faster faster…. Then review bombing the product when a demand isn’t met. Meanwhile those same demands are making games more difficult, complex and more expensive to create than ever before, on shrinking timelines that burn out employees and make their lives miserable.

You wanna know why so many games get delayed? Cuz the original release dates weren’t realistic to begin with, but you can’t tell a gamer their game is further away than they want to hear. Some dev or game designer will be threatened physically. That builds even more pressure and rushing. We are officially squeezing water out of rocks and still complaining about that how hard you have to squeeze the rock be just waiting for rain. Most of the time we take it out on the developing studio, when it’s the publisher making the calls.

All you need to do is read the comments on most websites and social media to see how toxic, entitled and petty the gaming community at large is, and realize how that transforms into impossible expectations on the parts of game makers.

Crows901h ago

Nope. Some gamers are to blame. Never demanded anything you mentioned.

A fully finished and functioning product is a standard. It's not demanded. If someone sells you a tv that only works 60% of the time are you going to recommend it OR write a review calling out the obvious problem...it's not a demand...it's a standard.

A standard triple A publishers can't seem to hit consistently.

thorstein7m ago

You've never heard of planned obsolescence.

Kinza550123h ago(Edited 3h ago)

This is one battle that gamers have never won, hahaha. They were parading recently for their "win" against Sony. Where's the energy for this one, guys? LMAO!

Let's Be Real, There Is Nothing "Micro" About Microtransactions Anymore

Microtransactions have gotten ridiculously overpriced in recent years, with titles now offering cosmetic skins worth more than some games.

Terry_B1d 20h ago

Yup..this is 100% the sad truth

z2g23h ago(Edited 23h ago)

The elephant in the room tho is personal accountability. It’s easy (albeit basic) to blame the big, bad corpo, but microtransactions wouldn’t be where they are if gamers didn’t spend money on them. As it stands the MTs usually make more than the game. Publishers know raising game prices will cause backlash, so they do MTs to compensate. But the adult conversation is consumers determine the success of products with their wallets. So if MTs are a huge thing, it’s because we as consumers told them we like them by giving them a lot of money for them. So if you don’t want them to be a thing, convince your fellow gamers to stop buying them and expect that games will be decently more expensive. You all can disagree all you want, but reality is a bitch, and eventually you have to live in it.

anast21h ago

Trying to convince people is the least realistic thing. If we are trying to be adults, actual action is what changes things not "convincing campaigns" on platforms owned by the people 'you' are going against. It's madness and idealistic.

ApocalypseShadow16h ago

Easier said than done. I've told gamers for years to not buy micro transactions, expensive dlc, etc. Gamers bought it anyway. Didn't fit on a DVD that would have fit on a Blu-ray disc.

I also told some gamers to not pay for online like Xbox Live because it would force the rest of the industry to only offer playing online if you pay for it. Told them not to support a broken console that Red Ringed. To not support Xbox One because Microsoft tried to take away game ownership and how you play your games. To not pay for a console by one manufacturer where a, now 3 trillion worth, didn't make enough games at the level of Nintendo or Sony who are worth less money.

How much of that did you support anyway with your money then go back and read your comment again.

notachance10h ago

yeah that was like telling people not to do drugs or alcohol, these game companies invested a lot of money in researching about how to make people buy MTs, from creating mechanics like loot boxes, purposely make the game grindy, all the way to menu designs and what color and sound effects played when gamers bought MTs.

It was specifically engineered to take advantage of vulnerable and prone to addiction people.

bradfh8h ago

@z2g
People always struggle with issues like drinking, drugs, and gambling. But in games, especially those played by kids, microtransactions are another way companies take advantage of them. It's a problem that needs addressing.

I recommend everyone read this article.

My suggestion is to name these transactions, what they ARE: Hidden-fees.

isarai1d 12h ago

I mean except for the amount of content you're paying for.

Hugodastrevas1d 1h ago

There never was, the only time I paid for a microtransaction was on Blacklight Retribution (PS4) and it was because I enjoyed the game a lot so I felt the devs should get something for all that entertainment (€5 "membership")

-Foxtrot1d ago

The devs wouldn’t get that though, that shit goes straight to the higher ups who do f*** all let’s be honest.

Hugodastrevas23h ago

Probably, but I wasn't as cynical back then and €5 wasn't a big ask to get the guns with grinding instead of renting them, and the game was good (still is on the PS5/4)

CrimsonWing6923h ago(Edited 23h ago)

I couldn’t believe what Blizzard charged for horse armor and cosmetics in Diablo 4…

I remember back in the day when a season pass was $15 and you got everything included in it. Now, I see them at $60 and you still don’t get everything.

CantThinkOfAUsername16h ago

That's just Blizzard. Unlike Bethesda's $0.99 horse armour, Blizzard's first microtransaction, Sparkle Pony, cost $15.

Phoenix767h ago

Bethesda out did themselves a few years back with 76. They released a Xmas bundle for half price on day of release! So, was meant to sell for only $12 from day 1, but tried to convince everyone it was half price, by marking it at $24!

Shane Kim23h ago

As soon as gaming wasn't deemed nerdy anymore, and reached the casuals this happened. We're smart, but casuals play mobile games and other stuff, and don't really have anything to compare. They think gaming is supposed to be like this and pay for in game purchases.
