UT3 360 cancelled?

More and more is Unreal Tournament III looking like a PS3 exclusive. For example: Mike Capps (President of Epic Games) states in the following video that "We´re Just on PlayStation 3, so we get to focus on that platform." Adding to that, on the GameTrailers site itself UT3 shows as PS3 and PC only. Even more evidence shows on the official UT3 site which displays the boxart for the PS3 and PC versions, no 360 boxart in sight. Could all this lead to a final word by Epic that they are in fact releasing UT3 as a PS3 exclusive? Only time will tell.

i just downloaded the demo and tried it out...........my laptop cant really handle it that well.........so pc version is out.........i guess ima try the ps3 version when it comes out

I doubt that Epic won't release a 360 version; however, it is strange that they used to openly say it was a timed exclusive and now you don't hear anything about it unless that is part of the deal of being a timed exclusive...that you can't advertise for the other system while in this time frame. If this isn't the case and Sony is working to have it really an exclusive... it will do much to rally all the PS2 Sony fans to move up to the next piece of hardware. Have played the online MP demo for PC already and it is amazing. Can't wait to pick up for my PS3.

Dude how dumb are you. It's running on the Unreal 3 engine, Gears of War was running on the 360, and it's just a beefed up version of Gears with some other gameplay (no hiding etc.).

If it could run on any hardware, it would be the 360 first, because several devs have stated that Unreal 3 engine is having problems on the PS3. Seen all the jaggies and framerate problems on the PS3, I guess UT3 will have the less version on the PS3 also. And the 360 even will have more time to optimalize. Hhhmmmm well I guess you can always pop in a BetaBluRay movie like Casino Royal for the 15847th time!

u just dont get it!!!! epic won't release it on 360. Epic always said "we don't release a game unless we're sure it working 100%". Another proof it won't be on 360 for just a BIG reason, u can check gametrailers on that, mark rein said that sony already helped epic to make UE3 run effeciently on PS3, and he added "Sony worked with us to enhance the UE3 too" that proved to me it's over, no UT3 for M$.
Already epic is working with sony on a new IP using UE4, still rumours, but that won't surprise me.

Last I heard, the 360 version was put on hold until the PS3 version was complete. So I guess you can say they are PS3 only for the time being. Not too sure though. I don't see it being cancelled. At least I hope not.

truth be told, UT is solely multiplayer. hell, i have a pretty cool game called H3 for deathmatches with crazy weapons and huge boards. i'm guessing they know with over 5,000,000 copies of H3 sold as of right now, they really have no chance of competing on the 360 platform, if and whenever they decide to release it. Haze on us I reckon. That I believe is the most logical thing to happen, because they feel they HAVE to support the modding community which comprises such a large proportion of their community which will play such a large decision. Secondly it will, if they haven't even started work on the 360 version I believe they would be happy to settle for the PC sales (which will be enourmous) as well as the ps3 sales. It would cost a hell of a lot of to make and develop for, it's currently fine tuned to the ps3, they, I know it sounds bad but its really okay, would have to downgrade it to fit the (more singular based) multi-core processor and another thing is the disc size, remember Mark Rein saying because of the Blu-Ray they can have all the maps and features that the PC version has?

So yes, I believe Epic will pull a Haze on the gaming community, but only time will tell.

MS doesn't own the Gears IP, Epic does. MS has exclusivity rights to the first two Gears of War games, but not Gears of War 3 or any sidestories. Those will most likely be multiplatform.

The only thing Epic is less happy about, is that having mods/user maps on the 360 is hard with Microsoft controlling XBL. That's why they put back the 360 version, but they'll get an agreement with Microsoft in the end about things.

UT lives on online and user created content. As far as we know, the xbox cannot support user created content due to the closed network that LIVE is. And the online would be gimped on the 360 because for the same reason, LIVE servers are hosted by other 360, and the 360 can only support a limited number of players, verses the ps3 and the pc, where the servers are hosted by PC's.

i played the demo on pc at 1650 x 1050 res with all setting turne higha dn it didnt really impress me as mucha s the call of duty 4 single player demo.

most 360 and ps3 owners own a pc. If i had the choice to play any fps it would be with mouse n keyboard like most fps fans. I would of got this game on pc if my pc could handle it fully but my decision not to was made easier by the fact that my monitor is 21" but my tv 40+" plus mouse n keyboard support for the ps3.

Do 360 owners really care about this game? im not sure. will this effect them? not as much as SOME would like. I would suggest that 360 owners just get it on their pcs if they can hack it as unreal games are very quick and hectic so i believe pad users wont feel the full potential anyway. i also suggest using mouse n keyboard support for the ps3 guys because using a pad against seasoned ut pro's might be a little tough.

Says that when a company has a timed exclusive (the PS3 with UT3 in this case), the only mentioned version for trailers and such will be that version only. Let's be real for a moment; Sony paid god knows what to get UT3 as a timed exclusive, so Epic isn't going to turn around and advertise a future 360 version alongside the PS3 version. Doing so would undermine Sony's reason for buying the timed exclusive in the first place, and that's to give the impression that it's only on PS3. Sam deal with Haze, which is only advertised as a PS3 title, but is hitting the 360 next year. Use some common sense folks.

not saying this is the case at all with UT3...but it is shaping up exactly the same way...this case will not be only PS3 no matter what (the PC version is shipping before the PS3 version now)...but with Haze, more and more evidence was pointing away from a 360 version...box art, little clips in interviews, etc...just like what is going on with UT3...Rein said a long time ago if MS doesn't allow for some degree of free UGC for UT3, it won't be on the 360...this could all be a case of MS not budging with XBL...and Epic simply getting ready to pull the plug on 360 version...or maybe not...but you cannot deny the similarity to this situation with that of Haze...and apparently you did not see how Haze ended up...

on the other side everyone knows Sony has had a lot of input on UT3...giving "help" with optimizations...the quiet timed release (which was said to be partly due to SCEA, and partly do to MS w/ XBL)...it is extremely obvious that Sony does not want UT3 on a 360, but Sony also claims to not pay for exlusive stuff...so who knows...but Haze originally was regarded as having the PS3 simply the "lead platform" while exclusive'ness was still being negotiated...once the negotiations ended, it was PS3 only...Sony and Epic very well could have been in the middle of the exact same thing, but only on a console basis (the PC version is coming regardless)...Main issue is Epic is good at debunking rumors pretty quickly...the truth will come out soon enough...

Looks Like Epic is finally realizing what can be done on PS3 hardware. Look for Gears of War II to be multiplatform or PS3 exclusive because there's no way you can maximize Epic's dreams of an AAA sequel on 360.

Plus why put Unreal Tournament on 360 when your crowd is nothing but mindless Halo following XBots who wont give it a first thought of playing because of fear of a FPS game that is better than Halo? I don't understand why the xbox360 fans are complaining because they have tons of shooters plus the Godly shooter, Halo 3, is out now. Sad, but true, that new shooters like Orange box and UT3 won't get much attention because everyone on Halo 3.

360 had its day but everything comes to an end. The 360 is not advanced enough to utilize new technology that these guys want to implement. PS3s day will come hell the way things are moving these days, its probaly only gonna be a year or two. And then its the next thing and we must move on.

360 version will see the light of day, im guessing late summer 2008. They have come out and stated that the 360 version is currently not in development, but it will come. - But why are you all complaining, you have Halo right.. So be quiet.

Come on guys. Do we care? WE already have too many fps/3rd person anyway. H3, bioshock, HL2, COD4, Quakewars, ME, Huxely, Alan awake, Gears, Lost planet, Splinter Cell etc etc etc. Remember most of the multiplatforms are better and hopefully will be better on 360 .

Even if we lose it it wont make much difference we already have plenty of AAA titles to choose from, although we can't say the same for ps3 owners. Anyway, unreal was always a pc game for most of us and is best played on pc just like halo originated on console is best played on a console.

Even if it's coming to 360 the only problem will be the delay, since they want to finsih ps3 version first and we all know how the development stretches for that platform. We might end up with a ps3 version mid 2008 and 360 version q4 2008.

In the meantime we can all play it on our pcs.

wether or not this comes to the 360, all your claiming that it ran gears so it'll run UT is wrong. gears is a super slow paced game with a maximum if what 8 players on screen at once? UT is an super fast game, that means you need higher frame rates to keep it smooth, if you were to 'speed' gears up to the pace of UT it would be terrible!

hopefully this game does go multiplat because ive been playing the PC Beta all weekend and it RULES so id like to see this avaliable to everyone to share in the FUN! although i still think UT belongs on the PC because the spped the mouse offers but of course thats just personal preference.

Just to settle this argument, once and for all.

UT3 WILL be coming to the 360 in 2008, and this 'Confirmation' comes straight from Mark Rien himself while speaking to CVG just a little while ago. He's spoken so as to allay the fears and speculation that has arisen with regards to the comments made by Mike Capps which, as usual, were taken out of context, and blown way out of proportion.

Epic already has code for UT3 running on the 360 as well as the PC, it's simply that they are choosing to run it off (sell to public) the PS3 version prior to Christmas/new Year, as it make greater financial sense for them to release the game on PS3, while the 360 has its huge range of pre-holiday games on its plate leading up to the New Year.

It (UT3) would be lost in the huge list of AAA and AA titles due out in the next few months. Which is why several games have been moved to '08 by other developers as well, so as to miss the big-squeeze . . . Read on and hopefully this will stop the stupid bickering (highly unlikely) re "exclusiveness" . .

There's only a few games now that will be exclusive from 3rd Party Developers/Publishing houses any more, or even look like being exclusive on either platform by such developers. As the developers simply can NOT afford to ignor the fact that there exists a huge install base of almost 12 mil on the 360, with a XboxLive membership looking like topping the 7 million mark by christmas or even higher.

WIth games like Gears of War, Halo 3, BioShock etc selling 'exceptionally well' in such short time frames, developers can no longe ignor thefactthatthey HAVE to make games to suit all platforms if they are to succeed in this business now. It was a completely different story a few years ago, when XboxLive was under 1 mil users, and slowly growing, and the PSN was not doing so well, even though it had a decent install base. Those things have changed dramatically, and continue to change, the only thing that doesn't change, is the narrrow minded attitude of some gamers who believe their platform, irrespective of which one it is, is superior, and they will have exclusivity over the other. Those times have came - and gone.

Responding to a reported quote from Epic president Mike Capps that Unreal Tournament 3 was "just on PS3," VP Mark Rein has reaffirmed to CVG that the deathmatch shooter is still coming to Xbox 360 next year.

"We are going to release UT3 on Xbox 360 in 2008," confirmed Rein.

Regarding the game's performance, Rein explained, "I would think most of the people who read CVG would actually be able to get a great experience with Unreal Tournament III. We spent a considerable amount of time and effort making sure that gamers will be able to enjoy UTIII even with older gaming rigs," he added.

"We're trying hard not to confuse users with a hundred different graphical settings and come up with the right balance of installer-selected settings, easy configuration and end-user documentation. You obviously have not had or run a business in the past, or been involved in a major business of any sort on a management level. As shown in the letter from Mark Rein above, it was, and is a complete "misunderstanding' regarding the so-called Exclusiveness of UT3 . . . if bothered to read it of course . . ?

Companies make choices based on the future, not the current situation, Rare are about to drop Perfect Dark Zero 2 this holiday season, as well as several other games lined up for both platforms. It's a wise move by several publishers to move some of their games to 2008, and allow breathing time for other bigger AAA and AA titles to have their 2 -3 window of opportunity on the shelves.

It's a known fact that each major title banks on a window of just 2 - 3 weeks of solid sales at the registers in order for it to hit their estimated targets of a minimum of 500.000 - 600.000 (all developers have said that they need at 'least' 600k units sold of any PS3 title to come clean - atm) units sold in order to hit their breakeven point, or a point that they know where they are in the clear and on the home stretch with regards to returns on the product.

If this window for a soild AAA title is clouded at all by any other major title, be that on the same or different platform, they look at shuffling it around, and divertingtheir attentions to one platform, or the other in order to gain maximum return at that time, and then have a second bite of the cherry at a later date on the other platform.

If you bothered to get out of your one-eyed-Sony-bilnkers, you'd see that all games on all platforms are doing this atm, and the various publishers are using their heads right now, rather than pushing product to an already saturated market, especially at christmas.

It doesn't6 take a rocket scientist long to work out that when comparing 12 mil end users to 3 million+ end users, with a much larger online service, which one would be better to catter for, in the long run. That does NOT mean they will forget all other platforms, it simply means they willlook at what is best for them at this time . . and make the choice accordingly.

A wise business company does not move product into an already saturated market when figures show huge use of online services already, such as XboxLive. Given a few months time, once both Halo 3 (which has had the highest amount of hours clocked on live - ever, and its still growing), Mass Effects and COD4 have subdued somewhat, the XboxLive community will welcome the likes of UT3, Haze, Huxely etc, which are ALL coming to the 360 in 2008 . . . If they were ready, and were shipped now, the publishers returns would be cut to ribbons, and thus their shareholders would be after blood. Notto mention the Developers not getting their returns after sales on the product. As it's the sharholder who actually dictate whether or not a company will make certain choices, not the fans . . .
