UT3 is coming to 360, Epic reaffirms

Responding to a reported quote from Epic president Mike Capps that Unreal Tournament 3 was "just on PS3," VP Mark Rein has reaffirmed to CVG that the deathmatch shooter is still coming to Xbox 360 next year.

"We are going to release UT3 on Xbox 360 in 2008," confirmed Rein.

Regarding the game's performance, Rein explained, "I would think most of the people who read CVG would actually be able to get a great experience with Unreal Tournament III. We spent a considerable amount of time and effort making sure that gamers will be able to enjoy UTIII even with older gaming rigs," he added.

well not a big surprise 360 version is still around. not point in canceling an easy port. But as for the higher quality content not included in the beta demo, now it makes sense why my mostly crippled comp did very well with it.

These UT3 arguments are always fueled by people that simply didn't read all the news on the game...

UT3 was delayed more or less because of Gears of War originally...UT3 has always been touted as the flagship for UE3...and Gears ended up doing that much earlier than expected...however...

One thing Epic did confirm through Gears of War development was not being at all satisfied with how closed XBL is...and...in the past...was enough for Rein to even say "if we can't get UGC easily on XBL...there will be no UT3 on the 360"...they have since mentioned that there will be UGC "in at least some form, but a worst case scenario of only certain mods being available on XBL" seems to be the most realistic assumption for the 360 version right now...

So its not a matter of gears being so popular that Epic will definitely do it on the 360...I said in the other articles comment section just yesterday that Epic would debunk it rather quickly if it isn't true...but there is no denying what Epic said in the past...they are not very happy with MS or XBL in regards to content sharing...the main reason the 360 version has had the back burner for all of 07...

everything I just mentioned is readily available by searching "UT3" from this site...there are countless interviews about it...yesterday's rumor of it not coming to the 360 was not Sony Fanboy wishfull thinking...it has been said by the developers several times in a somewhat muted form...If I only owned a 360, I would not be concerned about it coming to my system...thats most likely going to happen...I would simply be concerned with how much of the modding is allowed on the 360, and how it is distributed...paying every time for one of the 1,000s of mods that will be available for this game is simply crazy...

Not dissing the franchise but Unreal isn't really that widely known outside a PC audience, so unless it's heavily advertised, i can see this selling disapointingly on PS3.

I very much liked The Liandri Conflict and it's clear that epic make great arena shooters, but Unreal just isn't a hugely recognizable name on consoles.

There is a real danger that this will pass many Sony owners by.

Probably fair better on the 360 because it's home to much more of this stuff and MS will likely get right behind it.

Well. This is great news for those who have a 360 and do not own a PS3. They'll get to enjoy this wonderful game.

I wish there were a way to get cross console support. There wouldnt be nothing more funnier than the XBOX 360 fanboys duking it out with PS3 fanboys on the same game on different consoles. Things could get pretty ugly then. LOL.

Still good news for 360 owners. (I expect to eat plenty of crow if your version turns out better lol)
I also gotta add if you dont know already get this game for pc anyways its a lot less gimped than either console versions will play great on anything with a dual 2.4+ w/2 gigs of ram and a decent vid card. Not to mention you get the editor so you can create your own stuff :D Expect a lot of cheats too no matter what version you buy...

i think its done for the 360...sony paid a lot money to have a time exclusive,but the devs are having huge issues w/ getting the game to run smoothly on the ps3 hardware...the game uses the unreal3 engine that bioshock and gears use..and just like cliffy b said,gears wouldnt have been as smooth of a game if it was bulit on the ps3.."we have our engine running like butter on the 360,and it would take a lot of teaks to get our engine to be as smooth on sonys hardware"..taken from gears developer commentary...this is the same dang engine,and because the ps3 cant do all the advanced lighting and shader tricks,the 360 version is pushed back until sonys is ready..THIS IS THE TRUTH...

well, UT3 is a game for xbots.

i have enough of Shooters and i'm happy that i own a PS3 to play some different games.

there are zero games that i want to play on the 360 but tons of stuff for the PS3.

360 is for PC gamers and Shooter fans.

PS3 is for Hardcore gamers and graphic whores.

i would never ever buy a 360 again because playing on the PS3 just feels .. better.

after the framerate fixes in the BD/DVD settings all the games run smooth and multi titles look much better on my ps3 than on the 360.

keep your loud POS and leave us next-gen gamers alone ;-)
