PS3 is beating the 360 in Japan and Europe. All that's left is USA, and I think that will happen next year with releases like MGS4 and GT5. Don't even get me started on Final Fantasy. When the FF7 prequel released for PSP in Japan the sales boost was monumental.

PS3 had a price drop of course it will sell more. When Halo 3 was released on the 360 the system sold more than normal. Its going to be one heck of a run for MS and Sony. As Sony lowers its price so will MS. In the end we all win. Whether you are a Xbox 360 fan or a PS3 fan at this rate the prices may get low enough for the fans to afford both systems.

I am a PS3 owner and these charts are good news - but I wish people would stop saying stupid things like ' when the 40gb comes out in NA the X360 is dead'.

1. Most people I have spoken with have opted to pay the extra £50 and get the 60GB at it's new lower price, so I don't see the 40gb having a huge impact - only a reduction in price of the 60GB is making an impact

2. I don't want X360 to die - x360 & Ps3 need each other for competition if either dies the other will get lazy and start putting out crap - a close market is good for gamers as they then need to push the envelope further to out do each other.

It really does pay to own all three instead of being a slave to one (and the company that produces them). I own all three consoles (only really disappointed with the Wii) and its the only way to go.

I feel sorry for fanboys on both sides who will be missing out on great titles all around because they have some unhealthy attachment to a brand name. Although the fanboy back and forths are pretty funny sometimes.

The only bad thin about owning all three is deciding which version of a multiplat game to get. The impending release of COD 4 is giving me a headache (not really). Im leaning towards the 360 version though. Simply because I own more PS3 games. Gotta spread the love ya know.

It's possible... never say never... that the PS3 will eventually catchup to the xbox 360 installbase... but let's not forget that the xbox 360 is selling too...

The current installbase lead of the xbox 360 over the PS3(europe only) is 2,056,958

That means if we assume that means that it would take 57 Weeks for the PS3 to catchup by selling nearly 2:1 against the xbox 360.

Of course the asumption is that Microsoft will not drop the price of the xbox 360 during that time and that no game on the xbox 360 will move any consoles...

Yes... I'm not going to mention global sells.. Halo 3 created at least a six-ten month gap between the the PS3 install base.

But who knows... maybe people will forget about the games.. and that the PS3 is still not mainstream price at $400...

Globally... if every goes perfect for Sony and everything goes wrong for Microsoft... it would take at least 2 Years for the PS3 to catch up. I'm not exagerating when I say that.. it took the wii practically 1 year catching up selling more consoles than the xbox 360 at a rate of 10:1 more than the xbox 360 in many regions.

The PS3 is about 6 million down on the 360 and Wii, which are right together. Regardless of the source for the numbers, a 6 million unit gap is pretty standard right now.

Over 9 months, that would mean the PS3 would have to sell 666,666 MORE consoles than the Wii and 360 to take the lead.

Impossible, or sign of how evil Sony is? Maybe both?

Seriously, the PS3 is still years away from getting the lead, if it ever does, and my money is on it won't. To catch up in 4 years, when Nintendo is likely get make a new console, it's 125,000 more sales per month. It's 100,000 more sales per month to catch up in 5 years, which is what it would have to gain on the 360 if it makes it 7 years this time around.

Neither of those numbers seems very likely to come to be. Those it is possible, its not terribly likely the PS3 will catch the 360 or Wii by the end of their life cycle.

1. These are estimates. When VGAChartz corrects itself they usually correct down.

2. The PS3 was never selling horribly in EU and the 360 wasn't beating it by a lot. So it's not as dramatic as you make sound. Remember what happened at the last price cut? We saw similar results but they were temporary, but I do think Sony are getting into the "sweet spot" now in pricing.

Once we get a month into the price cut I think we will be able to see the trend better.

Kids, let's not get too excited yet. We should expect PS3 sales to jump because if nothing happened, that would have been a really bad sign for Sony. What I want to know is how much of the current sales are for the 40 gb or the 60 gb model. If it's mostly the 40 gb model, that would be really good news for Sony because that's the model that will be around from now on and its popularity would strongly indicate the PS3 will maintain its high sales momentum. However, if it's mostly the 60 gb model, then it's not so great because this may just be a temporary surge as people rush to buy the remaining 60 gb models with backcompat before they are sold out. Sales may drop again after these are all gone. Remember all the premature celebrations the last time the PS3 outsold the 360, which also followed a price cut - on the 20 gb model. But for the people complaining about the inaccuracy of VGChartz numbers, stop. It uses plenty of resources to gets its sales figures, and often compares/corrects according to professional tracking services.

On topic, great for PS3. Hopefully they can sustain these sales until the PES'08 bundle, which should move a lot of consoles.

May I also remind you all the 360 outsold the PS3 world wide the first 6 months, July one month the PS3 peaked (because of price drop) after that the 360 outsold the PS3 again world wide up to today. That means out of 9 whole months, the 360 got 8 outselling the PS3.

The 360 had a global launch in Dec of 2005, and by end of Sept 2006 had reached 6 million sales in 10 months. The PS3 is actually between 5.5 to 6 million sales to date, but remember it only launched in Nov of 2006 in the US and Japan, Europe didn’t get it until March of this year. So the first 4 months weren’t global, and its only been approx 6-7 months in Europe. And yet it still manages to pretty much equal sales numbers of the 360 in approx the same amount of time. Microsoft didn’t really face any competition, it only had the PS2 to go against, and that’s last Gen, Sony faces competition from the 360 and even though you can’t class the Wii as next Gen, its certainly selling numbers and taking potential customers from both Microsoft and Sony.

So i’d say Sony are doing OK, not as well as they’d like, but things are looking up.

Why do people automatically think the Ps3 should win the console war, they constantly go on about 2008 being their year like it’s a divine right, that these so called 90 million plus PS2 owners are going buy a PS3 when the price becomes affordable. Hey guys I just read the review for Gameinformer and they gave Mass Effect 9.75 rating. Although I'll probably buy this game when it comes to the PC (eventually), the review has me confused. The review gives the game props for the story, in fact 85% of the review talks about just the story line. They also like the graphics in the game a lot too. But it stops there; they have negative feedback on the rest of the game. I'll give you some examples.

America is about 65% of X360 market, if Sony can made it there, then X360 will take serious damage, just like X360 can do with PS3 if it start to sells good in Japan.

I love how they leave out the American sales which has the xbox 360 ahead of the PS3 by a much larger margin, and is in 1st place in terms of hardware sales.
