Square Enix: "We hope to meet Final Fantasy VII again"

Yet another hint to a Final Fantasy VII remake: Inside Crisis Core's limited edition bundle there is a mini-book that features images from Final Fantasy VII's technical demo and the following text:

"We hope to meet Final Fantasy VII AGAIN!"

Does that mean a remake is coming? Perhaps Square Enix will finally answer the question at TGS 2007.

@ Xi- I doubt it would go multi, Square knows this is a sony fanbase game, and FFVII has a loyal fanbase, and they know no matter the cost it will really make that money back.

UPDATE: Regardless of the xbox install base it will hit Japan first where PS3 will sell even more, and by that time if the 399 PS3 hits states and Square starts advertising here in the US, it wont take long to See PS3 catch up to the 360 here in the US, so far 360 in 2 years span only 5mill - 6mill sold and less than a year span PS3 1.5 mill, FFVII or most FF games can easly move 2-3 million units as stated by 1 up because thats what happend when FFVII came out and it seems FFXIII could possibly do the same. Now I know your are using wishful thinking but get real, and most of those remade games, which i guess why your saying Square is in it for the money are mostly towards sony and or Nintendo products? Am I correct. So seeing by history alone, I doubt 360 will get this BIG game, and I doubt sony will let this one slide like they did the other Exclusives which most dont amount to FFVII.

UPDATE2: Again stop putting things you no nothing about. "Half the 360 users are PS2 users" Orly? So 50million are xbox360 owners? wheres the other like 89 million systems at? I think its smarter to say that half the xbox users base is not 360 users. And the reason why some PS2 users such as myself had a 360 was because we found out we had to wait even longer for it to release, so in the end when PS2 supports stop that base will most likely move over to the PS3 base.

Update 3: I doubt by the time FF7 is done the margin will be far apart, by the time it probably does come out 360 support will probably be stopped by Microsoft lol. But back on topic, If FFXIII aint coming to 360 FFVII surely wont come to 360, also I doubt nintendo will get it since it cant handle the graphics they are adding to it, just take a look at the FFVII demo shown at 2005's E3. Now what Square can do like they are doing now is give 360 a special type of FF game like out of the 3 FFXIII games they are giving them one. So maybe 360 might get its own type of FFVII but I doubt it will be the same one that made the PS1 big.

and they can't deny the console attach rate, and the install base. ff7 on the 360 is guaranteed to sell at least 5 mil. Sony doesn't even have 5 million consoles. And also, I never said "half of 360 users are PS2 users" so it's a misquote. learn to Read.

Also, many 360 owners were previously PS2 owners, like a good 6 or 7 of my friends, the system the game was released on doesn't mean they're more loyal. I have ff7 on my PC, bought it the day it came out and I never owned a playstation.

SE is traditionally japanese but they're not stupid, they're going to try and make money and they wont be able to do it on the ps3 alone, why do you think there's so much more support for Nintendo now? Right, and why are they publishing Infinite Undiscovery for the 360. If you think that they're going to stay with the 360 purely out of loyalty it's you that needs to step out of the dream world.

50% of all 360 owners never owned an original xbox, I never said half of all ps2 owners are 360 owners. Don't put words into other people's mouthes, it's rude. Also, by the time ff7 is done the gap between the 2 consoles would be much larger than it is now.

They know people would buy a PS3 just to play it, like they did with PS1. Besides, Sony owns the publishing rights in the US.

EDIT: Below me. Yeah, I have the PC version too. But I have the PS version as well, and Sony owns the rights to that. They had to give Eidos permission to publish it for PC, because Sony doesn't really touch PC. Also, Sony owns a majority share in SE, so they have a big say as a shareholder in what goes on with the company. They won't let FFVII or XIII slip as exclusives.

@6.3 I don't see the install base being a good arguement for reasons for it going to the xbox, you might as well say its going to the Wii aswell then, and while we're at it lets put Bioshock etc on the Wii as its install base is bigger. My bet would be they remake it for both PS3 and PSP, the PSP has a big enough install base to make up for the PS3 if it didn't sell 5 million or whatever.

is simply because the hardware can't handle it. It's surprising how many people don't know that the E3 2005 FFVII trailer was a realtime demonstration on PS3 hardware, not Pre-rendered. We already know that the original title sold well over 10 million units on the original Playstation, and millions more have either played through pre-owned copies or with their friends. Add in the popularity of the FFVII movie, Dirge of Cerberus, and Crisis Core, and it becomes apparent what their true objective has been all along, which is to bring the series to PS3.

Whether or not it's a remake is unknown, but its presence on Playstation 3 is undoubted at this point.

yes, white engine works fine on 360, but this version of white engine with all the output we've seen with the tech demo and the ffxiii trailer have come from the white engine optimized for use with ps3.

i've said before that if they were to move the game to another platform, they'd have to optimize the engine for the new platform, which has no promises of having the capability to output the same amount of stuff or do the same calculations as the ps3 engine because of hardware differences.

If ur basing ur judgement around the core of FF7, sure every spin off would suck. I've played FF7 10 years ago and I'm looking forward to see it in Next-gen graphics. Well we know the tech demo was running on the PS3 during its debut, but the question is will the finished game remain on it. Square-Enix has made sure not to back only one platform this time around, so exclusivity may come in to question. However, we all know what FFVII did for the PSX, so maybe there will be a repeat performance. I know that Sony would be stupid not to snatch FFVII as an exclusive, but I bet that Microsoft knows the importance of the Final Fantasy franchise. So, that being said, I personally believe it will remain in the Playstation family.

After seeing the crisis core ending, i'm pretty damn confident that a FF7 remake is on the way. The message at the end surely must refer to a remake and not the 1997 PS1 version.

I think an FF7 remake would be pointless. Didn't we already see Aerith die? So how would we be affected this time around? You can expect that they might add little extras in the story, but then that's changing what we knew before. They've added so much to the story as it is, and they've decided to introduce new characters and branching stories for each of them. This equates to "Well, $50 got you the story that you THOUGHT ended, but in reality we were going to wait 10+ years to finish it, while milking it during that time"

I'm not one to disagree, however. I WANT a remake much like anyone else would. It would take a Herculean effort on Squenix's (deliberately misspelled) part to try and top the fame of FF7. And that's just not possible, since that's ACCUMULATED fame, over the last 10 years. That's like expecting PS3 to go anywhere NEAR PS1/PS2' success. And that just isn't happening either, since Nintendo got the jump THIS time, and Microsoft is leading the pack.

FF7 remade into today's image would mean ditching the format they used back when the game was first released back in 97. Remeber, FFs had been 3d on 2d backdrops up until 10's venture into full 3d. Once you take into account that EVERY SINGLE SCREEN has to be RErendered into realtime 3d, you begin to see the deilema. Midgar alone would take you around 25-30 hrs if you were able to go "outside" the lines that were previously your boundaries in the orignal version.

FF7 in 3d would translate to a modern day MMORPG, without the online. It just wouldnt be the same.

Nostalgia. I can hear the theme song in my head. FFVII was the first RPG I ever got into. Brings back memories of 1997. That game had a HUGE impact on my year when it was released (which may or may not have been good socially). If/when they remake 7, I wonder if it will have 3 discs :P

Square and Sony would profit big if they pull this off this has got to be one of the best game ever made it wasn't about the graphics then the story was rock solid. And the tech demo they showed they must have it in there mind they wanted to do a remake otherwise they probably wouldn't of done the tech demo.
