PS3 built for the long haul, Xbox 360 not? History to repeat itself ala PS1 Vs N64?

You don't think the PS3 can eventually overtake the Xbox 360? Think again. Remember, the N64 beat the snot out of the PlayStation One for nearly a year and a half until it got its killer app (Final Fantasy VII). History repeats itself. The PS3 may be mocked by the mass media as a commercial failure for now, and to an extent Sony earned that abuse for launching their new console to market so early when their existing console (the PS2) was clearly alive and still in much demand, but they won't make that mistake again. Eventually, the PlayStation 3 will start to look attractive to the general consumer, and once they have that fancy new Blu-Ray player to go with their fancy new HDTV, they just might start picking up new games for their new console-just like the PS2 before it.

it's not suprising that a PS3 site would profess such mindless dribble, but what I find interesting is, why is it that you never see articles bashing the PS3 on 360 sites? About once a month some no name PS3 fansite writes an entire article bashing the 360, it is then posted here and elsewhere as news. We never see this type of sleeze from say, Teamxbox.com, they barely even acknowlaedge the existance of the PS3, too many great things to talk about in the 360 world, kinda makes you wonder, why the rush from sony types to slander their competition, a little insecure, or worried are we sony fans?

I cannot honestly predict what will happen as there are too many factors, but I'm pretty sure Wii will continue to have a massive surge of sales through 2008, and then die out when the whole motion control fad ends, and third party titles will still be lacking. I don't think 360 can compete with PS3 in 2008 either but if FFXIII or MGS4 goes multi platform, the console war will be over for the PS3, assuming Blu-Ray doesn't all of a sudden offer super cheap titles and the PS3 becomes ridiculously cheap.

Agree with most of what u said. Not the whole "MGS4 & FFXIII is the only reason to buy a ps3" tho. I can think of a lot of other stuff, free online gaming, first to UT3, Ratchet, Uncharted, Jak (soooometime), maybe (MAYBE) Killzone 2 if they manage to match the gameplay to the graphics + a bunch of other stuff most sony cöckboys would mention.
I do believe blu-ray will win, where I live, Sverige!!, the battle is already over and the blue ones won.

I just want to point something out:

The Wii is doing very well right? They've got lots of software and great sales, so their marketing people tend to say things like 'We're very pleased with the strength of our brand and its great titles'.

The Xbox 360, is also pretty damned successful in its own right, and while once in a while they'll take a dig at Sony (which I don't like), MS is usually promoting itself by pointing to their strong sales and software lineup.

For some reason, Sony fans (and the company itself; i.e. Dave Karraker) are feeling threatened, and, instead of pointing to the PS3's strengths, they have to rag on their competition.

I really wish that the companies would stick to their own 'positives'. The fact that 360s die left and right is not sufficient reason (for example) for me to buy a PS3. Point out the great games you've got coming - mocking the competition just makes you looks bad.

OK, I am as unbiased as they get when it comes to consoles, in fact, I own all three of them and love each one for different but similar reasons. You guys need to remember that a console launch takes around 1 year to gain a foothold. The 360 was the same way and lacked games for the first year with very few "killer" titles. Now that it has the edge over the competition (time on market) it will appear as the bread winner. The PS3 and Wii have been in the market for 1 year now. Let's hold off on the Wii since it is obviously in a class its own and not part of this article. The PS3 is finally starting to see the games that it should and there are only more to come. For each game the 360 gets, Sony gets a game to counter. This isn't so much true yet, but this is the case for all consoles, since the history. Come on... my name isn't THAT hard to remember... Either way, I don't play games online anymore. I don't want to pay extra money to play games online, and I'm sick of people spamming the mic. I've staretd playing Warhawk, and it's been good to me so far. No problems getting into games, and I'm not hardcore enough to play ranked games so I don't have to worry about losing my rank. I'm playing Bioshock as well, by the way. On my PC. at 1600x1200. With full settings. I quite like it. Also... you took time to look up my gamer tag... that's dedication. Sorry, I haven't even signed into Live yet. I don't have a way to get online in my room other than wi-fi, and there's no way in hell I'm buying a $99 wi-fi attachment just to get some demos and games I bought for old systems long long ago. I get most of the demos i want on PC and my PS3, albeit a week or two later in some cases. But I'm patient. I live. Really, I'm disappointed with both my next-gen purchases so far. More my 360 though. I was so pumped by Dead Rising, but wasn't wowed as much as I'd hoped. Gears was great, but it was short. Multiplayer is awesome though. However, as soon as it comes to PC, it's going back to the store, as my rig can play it much better than the 360. And I'm finding that's the case with the majority of what's been coming to the 360. The exclusive games on my PS3 might not be earth-shattering, but I can't play them anywhere else. And when games like Uncharted, MGS, and FF come out, I know that's the only place I'll be able to play those, too. Just got Heavenly Sword, and I love it. Playing through on Hell Mode now, and the AI really shines at that difficulty. I'm not a fanboy, I'm a gamer. I own all three next-gen systems. I've owned pretty much every system since I started playing at age 3 with the NES. If my opinions and things I want from a game system differ from yours, why do I deserve to be cast out for that?

It's really only 3 features. Wi-fi, which is directly related to Live, so if you don't have a land line for ethernet in the room the 360 is in and you want Live, that's at least an extra $99, assuming you already have a router in your home. The other is HD movie format, which more and more people are looking for. I, personally, wanted all of the above, so my first console was a PS3. It offered the most features for the lowest price.

i think the best time for you to pick up a PS3 is immediately after the FISCAL year of 2007, thats around march 2008. its the best time because a lot of the games we have seen coming in 2008, excluding the agency, will try to be placed into the 2007 fiscal year for better looking sales numbers of the PS3, thus there will be more games. by this time, many more games will also be available to purchase, and they are not multiplatform games. PS2 WASNT first to the last gen and it had naff games and was expensive ($100 more than DC). I remember having to play RRV and TTT for months before anything else good came out. I had a DC also so most of the time I played that and I honestly considered selling my PS2 back then.... then Burnout appeared and Wipeout Fusion... and gradually more and more amazing games.

BTW im an old Sega fanboy and still own my DC. I hear comparisons to the Neo Geo being a failure far too often! Why do people say this? SNK never meant it to be a mainstream console. It was a "Cheap" arcade machine catering for a niché market never intended for mass global sales. Its games cost between $100 to $300 for fvk sake! I don't see many PS3 games for that price!

The AES (Home) version hardware maybe didn't stay in production for a long time, but the MVS Arcade hardware has been actively used since as late as 2005 for games releases in Arcades.

And no good games? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! Metal Slug series, KoF Series, Shock troopers, Waku Waku 7, Strikers 1945 Plus, Samurai Shodown Series, Baseball stars 2, King of the Monsters 2, Turf Masters, Last Resort etc. Try downloading the PC emulator called Nebula (V2.25b) and get yourself some of these games to try on it.

The Neo Geo is home to some of the best 2D games ever made and its life has been almost 15 years long as a commercially used platfrom. One of the most successful Arcade boards ever made. SO DON'T KNOCK IT DAFT LAD!!! hee hee...

I personally believe that eventualy the PS3 will take over the 360, but that the Wii will pull into the lead.

I also believe reading something with Microsoft saying they know that unlike Sony there not going for 10 years with one console.

I also believe that Sony will release another console before 10 years, simply because Microsoft will launch a new console, which would be more or less the same price as the Ps3 or cheaper, and will contain the winning HD format (whichever wins, blu ray or HD DVD) or maybe even some new type, a huge built in hard drive, and just tons more power then both the 360 and PS3.

This is what i believe Microsoft will do, because i think its obvious that the PS3 has alot of power, which i dont think anyone has seen or no how to use, and i think when its found, games will start to look better and better on the PS3, while the 360's stay the same/improve a little.

When Sony says PS3 will last 10 years, they don't mean its going to be the only system they release for 10 years, it just means they are going to support it for that long. PS4 will be out in 5 years, but ps3 will be support for another 4 years after that. People you can't honestly believe ps3 is going to be the only ps on the market 10 years from now.

Also Graphics of ps2 were far inferior to both xbox and gamecube, and yet it still won the last generation. PS3 fanboys are always talking about how much better graphics the system has and thats going to win the war. It didn't win it for xbox, it won't win it for ps3.

It's casual gamers that make a console sell well...right now casual gamers are picking up Wiis. Only hardcore gamers buy 360s and PS3s, it's still a niche market. Casual gamers are still buying PS2s a lot, which means that casual gamers embrace a technology once it's been established. In the case of the PS2, it is just that, cheap, reliable(for the price) and has tons of games that are also cheap.

The PS3 and 360 will reach that market at least 2-3 years from now. Only then will we see what consumers will embrace, right now, the 360 has shown its cards while the PS3 still has some in his hands. They may be Aces but they may also be Deuces.

Anybody posting on this site is not even a player in the console war...casual gamers know nothing of all these news stories and frankly they don't care.

A lot of you guys fail to see that the PS3 is doing almost the same sales as the X360 in the year-long head start it had. It was basicly only competing against the PS2 because the GameCube was already dead.

Numbers would be coming from an old thread at vgchartz.com, and even without being able to link that, it doesn't take a genius to see that the PS3 is almost at half of the 360's current sales, along with half the release time.

I don't remember 360's being scarce at all. I saw them sitting on shelves everytime I went to an electronics store, and I don't live in a 1-horse town in the middle of nowhere, I live in Los Angeles. However, I do remember nobody even talking about them post-launch for a few months.

i think people don't realize that this isn't ps1 when dev's was making a switch to ps1 because of cartridges vs cd's and the cost surrounding cd format. thats why n64 lost to ps1. the ps2 came out first and had more dev surport and more games because the xbox wasn't selling because sony got all the games. this time around. sony is not the lead system and the dev's have more options beside putting games only on ps3.when they can make games that will sell on other system.

He makes some good points but there are a couple I disagree with. Alot of his arguments are based on the assumption that Blu Ray wins the format war. Had this article been written a month ago I'd whole heartedly agree (I'm a 360 fan if that means anything, I returned my ps3 as at the time I could not justify its $600 price tag). However quite a bit has changed and it is unknown which way the format war will go. The other thing is the stage at which DVD is now versus where VHS was. DVD offered a significant advantage over VHS therefore ppl could justify making the upgrade. From DVD to Blu Ray/HD DVD its not as much of a jump and might not be enough to make ppl take a dive to either of the HD formats. I do believe the ps3 will eventually pass the 360 but not nearly the lead it had with the ps2 versus the original xbox. The price is still too high for the average consumer and will have to come down quite a bit for ppl to start embracing it. As for the Wii? Forget it. The 360 and the ps3 are fighting for 2nd place as the Wii is gone and it's not looking back. I never thought I'd say this but Nintendo is the king once again.

The entire criticism of the PS3 is based on its price as it was said to be justified by the games and the technology we'd see in them. Obviously this hasn't happened and the games that seem to have real potential won't be out until late late 2007 and onwards from there; however if the console dropped price to under $399 then much of the hate would disperse as there would no longer be a $599 price tag to be justified.

I cannot stress enough how important and potent an affordable PS3 would be to the industry; the PlayStation is still the most powerful gaming brand name and Sony has relied upon its name to get their head above water up until now but they really need to start delivering soon. A price cut, hopefully at TGS, will set things in motion because Sony cannot compete in this market with such an expensive machine. The PlayStation brand name could die this generation if the PS3 fails miserably.

And even fanboys from the Xbox camp are not audacious enough to proclaim the PS3's death just yet. This console war isn't over and it's high time people start to realise that. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if Sony completely flopped, nor would I be surprised if this race completely turned around in their favour. I think alot of people share that sentiment.

Actually yes, a lot of people I know who have bought PS3 is either for complete media center (linux etc) or because of the game library they KNOW it will have. I ask people if they have heard about heavenly sword, or warhawk and a few will tell me no? Because they aren't focused on the new exclusives per say they are focusin on the classics like MGS GT5.

People always like to bash the PS3 but as I remember in the 360s first year there were barely any games really worth buying. 360s went off the shelf mostly because it was the only next-gen system out and people were itching for next-gen. History does always repeat it's self. However in the case of the Playstation 3, it has more similarity to Sega Saturn that the original Playstation. In the case of Sega, they made the mistake of putting out a system that was over priced compared to the Playstation. It was released at $399, were as the Playstation was released at $299. Saturn got most of its games much later than Playstation versions. (Example: Resident Evil, Toshiden, Wipeout, Loaded, to name a few came out years on Playstation before Saturn)

Sega claimed that Saturn had more power due to it's dual 32-bit processors (the same way Sony Claims the PS3 is more powerful due to its multi-core processors).

The Sega Saturn was a pain to program for. Most 3rd party software on Saturn looked worse that it did on Playstation. The same way that Most Xbox 360 stuff looks better than Playstation 3 efforts.

The Sega Saturn Died a horrible death.

I think a PS3 under $399 can compete against its cheaper rivals, especially as it has the brand name and games like KZ2, MGS4 and FF13. It may not overtake the sales of the 360 straight away, but the gap would be alot closer than it is now and this can only be seen as progress. Over the next few years it COULD over-take it.

But Sony need to give themselves a chance to do that; drop the price of the machine.

My name is Dan and I own a video game store in Albuquerque New Mexico. I look a things from the point of view of a retailer and not a fanboy. For 2 Generation the Playstation family was the bread and butter of the shop. Playstation one and two sales continue to do well. However I've grown to hate the Playstation 3. It doesn't move. It doesn't sell. All though we carry used Playstation 3 games. I stopped carrying the Systems New and Used. For us, I no longer consider it a viable system. PSP doesn't do so hot hear either.

Personally, I find myself playing more Xbox 360 games. Maybe that because there's more Xbox 360 games. Although I must admit that both my Wii and PS3 are gathering dust. I do play my Wii 2 -3 times a week. Expecially not that Metroid is out.

I repair Most video game systems. I don't touch the Xbox 360. There's no reason to. I just send them back to Microsoft and let them repair them.

My opinion of the Playstation 2 success may differ over yours. The system came out at a time when DVD players were very desired and expensive. It was a cheap way to get a DVD player. If you remember back when it PS2 was released, software sales were less than 1 unit of software per unit. However at the time, it was estimated that 5 DVD sold per System.

I have no idea what the average house hold makes in New Mexico but they have no problem plucking down money for 360 or Wii stuff. So from my point of view, the Problem with the Playstation 3 is the systems price point and lack of software. I still feel the system get a lot of 360 hand me downs.

Great. Anyone who has followed Microsoft should know they have a 3 step program for success of the xbox brand. Not original xbox, not the 360 the xbox brand. So if you know anything you should know microsoft came into this business with the perception they would be leading after 3 generations. If they do it in two, great. The lifespan of a console really doesn't matter to me. When they release the next generation of consoles it will be the same as it is now. I will buy them, as will many people, and chances are they will all play my old games. How many people (who own a PS3, 360, and a Wii) still play on their old systems?

Now, anyone with even a pair of screws loose knows that DVD will eventually hit the wall within this generation. The thing is, developers won't just up and quit once that does happen. The great thing about devs is that they've got one Hell of a KNACK for working with what they have, and we've seen it with each and every generation. Each generation the PC community has enjoyed better hardware overall, with more RAM, bandwidth, GPU and CPU power, and pretty much anything you can imagine. Yet and still, we've seen some stellar games and franchises on our consistently less and less powerful machines. With things like Final Fantasy, God of War, Resident Evil 4, Halo, etc. showing up for the past couple generations, I'd say that developers are miracle workers in that respect.

The Live comparisons to Second Life and WoW are kinda ridiculous, sorry. How you can downplay 4-6 million users is silly IMO. That's still millions upon millions of dollars that they're pulling in every year because of that service...which is nothing to shake a stick at if you ask me. Hell, I'd be happy if I was in charge.

As a PS3 fan I'll be the first to say that there's more than enough room for all three this generation. This "war" business is blown out of proportion by the fanatics.

I think the PS3 is a great multimedia machine. Thats why the wife bought it. I also know in the long run it will have a lot of great games, PS1 and PS2 never disappointed me as far as gameplay.

Blu-Ray and HD-DVD will be fighting that format war for years to come. HDTV's still arent anywhere close to standard in worldwide homes as well as broadband internet. Both the PS3 and 360 are fighting for the fanbase of early adopters right now. PS3 has the advantage in multimedia features and brand recognition. But the 360 has the price, online service, current install base, amd game catalog advantage.

I am not going to base my expectations on past generations of videogame sales. I dont think Microsoft will drop the 360 after 4 years like they did the Xbox. I have not had the RROD issue for the past year and a half. If you think that every 360 has failed or will fail then thats your problem. Microsoft has taken the proper steps to fix the issue. 3 year wraanty makes me feel safe. My PS1 and PS2 both SH!T on me with disc reading problems in the first 2 years. Both times my warranty was expired. I just got another console :( How did Sony address these issue? By redesigning a smaller bersion of the PS1 and PS2 that magically didnt have disc reading problems. Takes a person or company to admit when they are wrong. Nuff said.

Also dont be hypocritical. The Wii is kicking the 360's and PS3's A$$. Remember it launched at the same time as the PS3.

People who base thier predicitons on the past are dellusional. I hope you know the PS1 had no real competiton. Saturn was too expensive, and had sorry developer support. It failed. N64 launched later with almost no 3rd party support at first, was more expensive, and really screwed up because it stayed with cartridge. The install base developer support and competitive price are what carried the PS1 to victory.

The PS2 also launched a 12-18 months earlier than the competition depending on the territory. They hade a good lead in install base, developer support, and competitive price. Once again Nintendo was late with the Gamecube, and Microsoft was unknown and also late. Game over befre it began.

PS3 has none of those advantages. Its is the most expensive console not only to manufacture but to purchase at retail. It launched a year later than the 360. 3rd Party Developers are supporting the 360 as much if not more than the PS3. 360 has an established online service and a larger library of games. Not to mention it costs less to manufacture and thus less to purchase. Then the Wii came out of nowhere and crushed both competitors in hardware sales with recycled overclocked last generation technology. Nothing is for sure anymore when it comes to videogames.

It's going to be a long fight. I am glad I own both the 360 and PS3. I can sit back and enjoy the ride. Next year when MarioKart comes out I will get into this insane Wii fad too. We have a 3 horse race people. Brand Loyalty is pointless. Get your game on and get all of the consoles.

Disagree with the writer of this article. N64 never outsold the PS1 at any time. I owned a PS1 at launch, N64 launced with 3 games. PS1 already had the sales lead, developer support, and better price by the time N64 launched.

I take issue with the DVD theory too. I am being absolutely honest here. I never played a single DVD movie in either my PS2 or Xbox. I paid less than $200.00 for a Toshiba DVD player in 2001. I waited a year to get my PS2 right when the price dropped and they had several good games out. I did the same thing with the Xbox, I waited a year and got it with the Jet Set Radio pack in game and the smaller type S controller. Never cared about the DVD playback capabilities because neither console had 480P progressive scan playback for DVD movies.

Blu-Ray will not get the PS3 the sales lead. It will be price, game selection, sales in all 3 major terretories, and brand recognition if anything. As a PS360 owner I honestly think sales will be divided by region and marketshare will be alot more even between the HD consoles. 360 will be the leader in the US. PS3 will be the leader in Japan. Europe will be pretty even.

I am not throwing the Wii into that equation because it is in its own category and will probably end up selling more than either the PS3 or 360.

I bought my 360 first and recently had a PS3 given to me. They are both good consoles. I hope they both do well. Next year I get a Wii. I am the kind of gamer who gets all the consoles. With funds coming from its software division (Windows Word Office Excell etc) and a strong leadership in gaming, I think that Xbox has staying power. If you can take on the PS2 and still survive, you got it made. 360 is NOT a Dreamcast. DC lost its ground only due to the fact that the PlayStation brand had built up so much momentum that the mere mention of PS2 sent 3rd party devs running to jump ship. Well, the PS3 launch didn't hit that watermark.

While Sony will be trying to recoup the losses for the Ps3 in 3 to 5 years the xbox 360(2) will be on store shelves with all of the newest technology. Who knows they may incorperate a cell processor, why not by then game designers will have experimented enough on Ps3 and they will know how to program to get the juice out of it. Smart move Microsoft, let sony be the goat. Also for everyone who doesn't know and anyone that cares, neither HD DVD nor Blu Ray will win the next gen high def format war. Technology is moving to fast for there to be a clear and decisive winner on that subject. I dont know about you guys but I dont care about high definition as much as I like having the next best thing or the newest gadgets. I just started messing around with the remote play stuff since i just got a psp and i got to say that it amazed the h*** out of me that the ps3/psp can do what it can do. I never thought that i would be able to connect to my console from anywhere in the world and even play games from my console through my psp. Can the 360 do anything like that? Sony never ceases to amaze me with technology and they always raise the bar when it comes to home entertainment. Sony is definitely in for the long haul and theirs no denying it.

As a owner of both systems I must state the following:

1. So far, the best games are on 360. PERIOD.
2. So far, most games look better on 360. HS looks nice, though.
3. The 60 gig PS3 is a nice machine (with all the slots, wireless).
4. I seriously doubt that graphics on one or the other system will differ by much (even 10 years from now). THE GPUs are very similar.
5. Anyone playing a PS3 in 6 years is a looser. I sure don't plan to. I bought the PS3 for Blu Ray ( I got mine for $388).

The Ps3 is only 10 months old for F*cks sake, and still at its original release price - of course it's bloody expensive and there aren't a lot of games. Like tell me something we didn't know.

If you dont prefer games like GOW3 and prefer Gears 2 then rock on. I however am a big fan of what sony is coming out with. LBP, FF13, Uncharted, Ratchet just to name a few. In all honesty I am not really looking forward to Halo or ME. I am buying Halo but just to see.

No one will ever win this argument. N64 had one of the few games I ever thought deserved a 10. Actually 2 of them. SM64 and Zelda OOT (BTW only games I ever thought deserved a 10 were Earthworm Jim 1 and 2, Soul Calibur 2, SM64, Zelda OOT and GOW1). It still failed. I'm not saying Xbox will but it has Gears and Halo... Honestly thats the big 2. They are really huge also btw. Sony however offers a lot more variety. Not just shooter. The games may be somewhat below par but the still have a much better line up imo. Folklore for example. Looks simple, Repeatative, Slow, Long but I will still buy it just like I bought Lair and other stuff cause being able to look at my library for sony and say "I feel like playing X type of game" I have that option. Sony will have the RPG's and all the good shooters except halo that the 360 will have. UT3, COD4 and others. I am looking more forward to UT on the PS3 for many reasons you all know. Also GOW3 one day and possibly a few others.

You know I talked to many fans and 360 has the library everyone says. I own Gears, Lost planet, Dead rising, Bioshock, Two Worlds(Do not buy Two worlds ever) and thats it. PS3 I have Warhawk, NG Sigma, Motorstorm, HS, RFOM, Lair.

Lets break it down now 360 :Shooter, Shooter, Zombie game(I love anything zombie), Shooter and crap RPG

PS3: Shooter, NG(Beat em up?), Racer, Action Adventure, Shooter, Lair(Flight sim?)

Now lets talk DL games XBL vs PSN.

XBL: Bejeweled(Puzzle), Castlevania SOTN(I kinda dont count this as it is on both networks...), Alien Hominid (Shooter), Hexic(Puzzle) Carcasonne(Puzzle/Strat?... But a bad ass one), Worms(Puzzle/Shooter?) and Sonic the hedgehog(Platformer)

PSN: Piyotoma(Puzzle), Pixel junk racer(Odd kinda racer), Tekken 5(Fighter), Flow(Ummm... Dunno what to classify as...), lemmings (Puzzle/Strategy?), Crash Bandicoot(3d Platformer), Mortal Kombat 2(Fighter)

None looked interesting to me but heres some PSN games coming out soon. Pain, Wipeout, LBP, Socom Confrontation, Echochrome, Elefunk, GT5, Loco Roco...

XBL does have some variety in XBL but they dont look as interesting to me as these do.... Thats the truth.

My point is when I go to the game store I go the the PS3 wall... Nothing there really... Genji... Vurtual fighter 5... Not much.

When I go the the 360 wall.... DOA4... Kameo... Overlord... Same as the PS3...

Both have not a whole lot imo...

So for your moneys worth. Both systems will be getting most of the good games timed or otherwise i.e. Assasins creed, Orange box, UT3 timed or otherwise. So no matter what you will have good games. For the future though. I really do see PS3 winning because it offers you more out of the box. BR player, WIFI enabled and all that to include free online and soon "Home". If you are a hardcore Shooter and Puzzle fan imo 360 really is for you as they will have them and they will be top notch, If you like RPG and Action adventure titles PS3 will, imo, have more and better ones... I prefer the latter and I think that if you are a 360 or a PS3 fan you can agree. Both systems will have variety but each will offer more titles in certain genre's. So its up to you. I like them all ;-)

Also Who cares if your a fan of a certain system or what not. Be a true gamer, Buy them all and have fun.

I know I knock 360 fans a lot but honestly I think thats due to the fact that most of them don't back stuff up. I would like a 360 fan to try and do what I just did and make an unbiased remark countering mine if they like. i kind of agree with some things you have said.

at the end of the day, it really just comes down to what your own personal taste is.

when you talk about xbox fans not backing things up, well thats true of fans on both sides. most of the time when a xbox fan makes a comment that you would expect a proper comment on, all you get back is a personal attack.

every point you have made is good, but i could just point most of them out as the same reason i prefer the xbox.

when you say the xbox as so many shooters, well the ps3 has almost just as many. for halo you have killzone, for mgs you have splinter cell. warhawk is a great game, but it is still a shooter, then resistance, etc...not to mention all the cross platform shooters.

personally, i am more of an xbox fan because i like the fps shooter. Halo is my personal all time favorite (not halo 2 though).. but thats just me.

i do see the ps3 doing a lot to come. i do think it is stupid to think that because the ps3 is not leader of the pack now, that sony are going to roll over and die. i think for the most part the prob the xbox fans have had is that sony has said from day one that would be the case and all the ps3 fans have just carried on in that light.

In as much as you may find yourself in the ps3 section more, even though you have a 360, in the same way i find myself in the 360 section more. the first game that impressed me on the ps3 was HS at E305, but after playing the demo i lost that interest.

You may rate Soul Caliber as a 10/10 game, i do not, i think tekken was much better and its one of the few games i have on my ps3...and one of the reasons i have a playstation.

great fun having a few of the guys over in the evening and then taking turns to smash each other up. unfortunately, i don't think any of the fighting games on the 360 are as good. i don't like dead or alive at all. i will have to see what VF5 is like.

its the best of both worlds when you have both... and if you like one more then the other because you like the games more, its all good.

i am not into Japo RPGS like FF etc and for the same reason i have no interest in Blue dragon. i won't say i hate japo rpgs then go and say BD rocks just cos it is on my system. The same way, if Halo had ended up on the PS, i would still say it is one of my all time best.

when you list NGS as a beat um up when we all know that NG2 is coming to 360 anyway, well....

I'm tired to all the fanboys on this site. Both consoles are great and have strengths and weaknesses. I like the fact that PS3 is coming out with games like Little Big Planet, Echocrome, Pain!, and everyday shooter that are different from any other games out there. I also am going to get viva pinata, lost planet. I appreciate unique games that deliver new and interesting ways to play. I like the fact that the PS3 includes wi-fi, whereas XBox360 does not include this feature. I think that XBox360 provides excellent online capabilities and I am going to enjoy downloading HD movies to it when I get it next week.

About the article, it's just an opinion, and I would leave it at that. In my opinion, the current DVDs I watch now have excellent picture clarity and there is really not a big jump in clarity from DVD to HD-DVD or Blu-ray discs on my HD TV for me to spend the extra money on a HD format. That's not to say that i won't buy Blu-ray or HD-DVD movies in the future, but it's just not worth the extra money at this point. I think as more people buy HD TVs and as the prices for the movie players and the movies come down in price, then of course they will become mainstream. But for now, there in no reason for the general public to upgrade to HD DVDs. Just like any other technology, the price will come down in time and there isn't that big of a picture quality difference compared to when we went from VHS to DVD.

I do think the PS3 is built with a longer life cycle in mind, but that's not to say that it will stay like it is for 10 years. There will be harware revisions much like in the past. I do think Sony made it with the long haul in mind, with the ability to replace the HD with any laptop HD and with a Blu-ray player. Microsoft is more or less focusing on the X-box Live service, rather then the hardware itself. Although hardware add-ons are optional, they are pricy and all proprietary. (wi-fi, new HD, HD-DVD drive) Because they did not build these options into the unit, I think they are going with a more short term strategy, although as the hardware evolves, it is possible that they will include these in a future unit. This strategy is ok for the short term, but in order for them to be profitable they need a long term strategy (which they didn't have with Xbox) and they Xbox360 should be out for at least another 6 years.

ps3 is next gen cos of blue ray, good for movies, games.. i have not seen anything on blueray that makes me think all that space has gone towards making a game experience totally beyond anything last gen.

all we got is better graphics( which we have had with the 360 ), the games duplicated onto the disc just so it can load faster and some extra languages.

Why buy something now?

Why would I purchase something now for the hopes of playing games in the future? When I could purchase it at a cheaper price when it has the games that might actually be worth a console purchase.

Why buy now? If I bought a video game but couldn't play it until the console came out a year later would I look as foolish? Oh, I could still talk about it. Tell my friends that I have it and they only wish they had it. While I laugh at them for playing their Gears of War and Bioshock games on a system that is going to be proven to be so lame "once I get MY system".

sony will win blue ray no question but the transition from dvd to blue ray isnt even close at all. If that guys figures are correct saying that 18 percent of north american home owners have hdtvs, sony is not gonna rape xbox like he thinks at least in the next year and a half to 2 years. It just donesnt make sense. When ps2 was bought im sure about 80 percent of north america had televisions, pretty easy transtion. The average consumer isnt gonna buy a ps3 until they get a hdtv and u honestly think that number is gonna jump to 50-60 percent in a year or 2. Thats just not logical. Everywhere i go people are not telling me that all retail stores are stacking up on blue ray over hd-dvd and all these companies are coverting from hd-dvd to blueray so im sure blueray will crush hd-dvd but as the best buy future shop and wallmart reps say, hi def movies are only being sold to under 10 percent of consumers. so even if blueray win, which they will they are so far behind standard dvd. Ps3's a great system but its not marketed in the right time with its blueray. Consumer demand and social/consumer trends dont match the ps3's major functionality.

ps3 is good and even if it does beat xbox it wont be by a large margin. I have had a ps1 and ps2 for played those systems till they died and had so much fun with them but i recently went over to and xbox360 6 months ago. I got the ring of death and did the towel trick a weekago.
xbox reps are sending me a package to send in my xbox 360. After only 6 months honestly im not at all regretful that i didnt get a ps3. Was debating and after long research i chose not to get one. I still think the 360 has better software and their gameplay is so much better on multiplatform games. I guess thats cause half of multi platform games are running and 30 fps compared to 360's 60 fps. And to all those fanboyes out there 360 is coming out with there new 65 nano meter chip which is said to fix issues with the ring of death and if it does xbox wont have to worry about that anymore.

Does it really matter which is best out of XBOX 360 & PS3,at the end of the day it's all about the games that's why I own both.I recently got an Elite to sit next to my PS3 with Bioshock and it's great,with Halo 3 etc coming out shortly it should be even greater.I got Lair for the PS3 and despite misleading reviews by some site's it's a great game also(just took a few levels to get used to controls).Heavenly Sword,Gran Turismo,Metal Gear 4 & Final Fantasy 13 are also eventually coming.PS3 may be slow starting but it's catching up and that's great cause there will be plenty of games on both consoles to choose from soon.My point is dont slam either console cause they both got there own strenghs and weaknesis and again dont stay loyale to 1 brand just cause you got the 1,buy both and you'll win either way with great games coming on both consoles.
