Call of Duty 4 Developer Shuts Up PS3 Doubters: No difference between PS3 & Xbox 360 versions

What really grabs my attention is that one year ago Sony was like "xbox 360 graphics are like games but our ps3 graphics are like movies", and now they are satisfied with just saying that they are equal to those of the 360.

why would any same person pay $100 to $200 more for equal graphics when the biggest motive for buying a console in the first place is to play games not watch movies? even though you can watch those with the 360 as well?

Remember that the X360 is easier to develop for and i assume it would also be easier to use it's full potential too and the fact that it has been a year out longer oh and also the fact that PS3 is hard to develop for. Factor all this in, and you probably get why the PS3 is having a hard time to have equal graphics. I'm guessing next year is when we truly begin to see some real use of PS3's power.

I "Kind of" understand what EA was getting at by more time to get to know how to program for 360 vs PS3, but isn't that why Madden was Canned last year for the PS3? To give them time to get it right for this year? Anyone doubting this game on any system is an idiot, the screens and videos have all been mesmerizing!! This will move some consoles on both sides when people see this game in action and start talking about it in force.

Hopefully they make the multiplayer a little better though as it never quite lives up to the fun of the single player campaign. Regardless though, this is a must buy until proven otherwise.

The Devs for this game clearly state that there wont be A SINGLE DIFFRENCE BETWEEN THE TWO! What is so hard to understand about that guys? 'xbox is going to run a little better', that statement is pulled from a donkeys @ss. The facts are set in concrete. Just get ready to be passed up in the next year in terms of quality (GX and game-play)because in terms of technology, theres no way xbox can keep up without releasing an updated console, and they've lost so much money they cant afford that. I still am not sure which one to get it on. I am leaning torward the 360 because they have alot more users for multiplayer(2 and 3 were always full of people), but my PS3 needs some love so I am not sure. I hate to wait for the reviews because they usually come in after the game is released and I want this on day 1.

has anyone considered the fact that the ps3 is only a year old and the multiplatform games are almost identical. if these games look equal now in 2 to 3 years they will look better on the ps3 than the 360. umm.. when i bought my XBOX back in 2001, i expected it to run games better than PS2, because it was supposed to be the better console with a premium price. And do you know what i got from day 1 that I bought my XBOX? A console that played EVERY game better than the PS2.

You would figured the PS3 should have been playing games form day 1 better than the 360....but the best you got is a game after one year that can play as good as 360?? especially when you got Madden running better on 360, and just about every other game up to this point.

Edit: All you idiots in post 38, Bladestar was just asking a question, so why the hell are you attacking him for. It was a very valid question. Bladestar: It's Infinity Ward's prerogative whether or not they wish to incorporate a trophy system to work with home. If they feel up to it, they may go as far as to creat a lounge in Home where you can meet other COD4 players and join in game with them. Voice chat should be handled the way it is in all games, over a bluetooth mic. The widespread availability of people with a bluetooth microphone will increase with the release of Warhawk. If many people start using mics, it may encourage other users to get one as well. In the end, I do believe it was a mistake on Sony's behalf to omit a mic from the Playstation 3 package. They should've at least released an official bluetooth mic instead of having us second guess which one's work and which don't.

i was just as surprised that both versions run at 60fps. but when we went to playtest the game at an event in an LA club and at infinity ward studios, we only played the 360 version. in fact at the studio we ONLY saw 360s hooked up. i saw 2 ps3's in the entire studio and neither was seeing any action.

I'm amazed by the evolution of software quality within a platform's lifecycle. Look at freshman year titles for any system and compare them to the latest ones on the same system. Most developers say they are pushing machines to their limits... but then someone redefines the limits. In its infancy, nobody would have imagined titles like God of War (I or II) would be possiblle on the PS2. But guess what... they were.

IMO the (original) Xbox hit its wall sooner than the PS2, in no small way because it was abandoned to get the jump on "next gen" with the 360. But the PS2 still has great titles (and is now weighing down dev on the PS3). The PS2 is, in some ways, the PS3's greatest enemy (until the installer base is ready or financially able to upgrade).

Since much of what we are now seeing from the announced Sony titles are still essentailly first year offerings, I can't wait for years two, three, four and so on.

I assume MS will plateau again and (need to) be first out of the next "next gen" gates with the 720 or whatever—and it will smoke the PS3 in terms of power (technology just does that kind of thing... no such thing as "future proof"). But then the 720-somethings will compalin about how the PS3 is hindering game development for their system.

What's this have to do with the equality of COD4 on these two systems? I dunno...

I'm seriously starting to believe that the fanboys on this site do not actively think when they're typing. They don't listen to anyone other than those that agree with their opinion (Which equates to them being slightly narcissistic). Seriously guys, come on, how stupid are you if you can't figure out the 360 has been out for nearly 2 years allowing for over 3 years of development time and/or practice with the console. That's just plain mindless posting if you honestly think a brand new console with less than a year of development practice can equate to 3 years of development practice for the 360.

The 360 looks better on most multiplat titles because it's been out for longer, that's a simple fact many people can't seem to grasp. The 360 titles didn't magically become great it took at least a year pre-launch of practice to come close to perfecting elements of a game for the 360. Gears of War is a game I associate as a great game in general. It's a 360 game that should be used proudly as a staple example of a good 360 game.

What you guys should be doing however, is comparing the 1st gen 360 games with the 1st gen PS3 games if you want a fair comparison. Gears of War was the highlight of the 360's 1st full year in the business. When I compare that to the PS3's 1st full year the PS3 has produced a better selection imo. You may disagree with that and fair play that's your opinion.

You're all trying to compare 2nd gen 360 games with 1st gen PS3 games and in all fairness I'm surprised at how well the PS3 is fairing already. Just by hearing about a comparison going on between Haze and Halo 3 I thought 'woa hold on a minute, this is a 1st gen PS3 title being compared to a 360 game that's backed by an endless flow of money'.

Haze is great and all but can it truly compare to a game that's had such a huge amount of backing? I was once again surprised to read that the comparision was much closer than I'd anticipated. The 360 guys say Halo; the PS3 guys say Haze. Of course I knew that was coming, but the truth is Halo shouldn't really have a competitor come so close graphically after all this backing, but it does and that's what surprised me. Maybe it's not a competitor in sales but in terms of gameplay innovation and visuals Haze really does rival what Halo 3 has.

So now COD4, the one game I originally thought was 360 exclusive and for a while thought the news bulletin would arrive sooner or later stating that but no such thing.

Btw to the person somewhere above that said at the IW workplace COD4 was being played on the 360 more than the PS3, that's because the beta is on the 360. The PS3 version will be improved based off of what the beta reveals to the devs. The 360 beta benefits both versions not just because the 360 because that's what it's being played on.

Like I've said in the past, COD4 looks amazing. With this article as proof both consoles offer the game at the same standard as stated by the devs themselves and I look forward to seeing good reviews of this game for both systems come release in a few months.

Console exclusives bring the best out of each console. However, multiplats (should) give all gamers the same game to play regardless of the console they own. While I don't see exclusives taking over just yet it's difficult for devs to get multiplat games to be exactly the same for each console when the practice on the hardware differs so greatly.

First of all I didn't say that, I said 'people are comparing 2nd gen 360 games to 1st gen PS3 games', there aren't any 3rd gen 360 games yet.

That doesn't actually make sense. It was set for a 2006 release date in November and that happened for US and Japan. It was only postponed for Europe because the production speed of the PS3 wasn't fast enough to produce enough units for a European release as well as the US and Japanese launches so it was pushed back. It has nothing to do with the games. The blu-ray may actually be to blame as it was brand new technology, thus the reason why the 360 was launched so early, because the 360 had standard tech of that time built into it so was easier to produce.

That is the point I was making, it's not actually 'fair' to compare the two. The games coming out now for the 360 are 2nd gen (like Halo 3) whereas the PS3 games are 1st gen. That was why I made the point about the Haze and Halo 3 comparison article. Haze is a 1st gen PS3 title that's actually very closely comparable to a 2nd gen 360 title in Halo 3. Less dev time and less console experience and the PS3 still pushes out a title to rival the 360's more familiar hardware, that's impressive in my eyes. That's what I was saying.

I mentioned Haze and Halo 3 because Haze is a 3rd party title going up against a huge MS backed title and what surprised me was that they can actually be compared to one another graphically. What I was trying to point out was that with all of MS's financial backing and the devs extended Xbox experience surely Halo 3 would be on another level graphically, but in fact 3rd party devs Free Radical have created a game that looks pretty similar with no where near the same financial backing. Once again, pretty impressive for the PS3. As for Killzone 2, that's 1st gen just like Gears was. If 1st gen Killzone 2 ends up looking and playing better than 2nd gen Halo 3 we can officially say the PS3 is technically better than the 360, but we'll have to wait for that.

XNA,VB,.NET all = very high layer of abstraction

...the most funnies little guys. They say so many things that aren't true. They look into they little crystal ball and predict the future. They know that everything multiplat is better on their console than on the PS3. Well so far most of the multiplats are better on the 360. But there are some exceptions like Oblivion for example or Marvel. The PS3 is hard to develop for...at least this is what the devs are saying. Should we believe it?? I'm not sure. I think it's just more like they are not as familiar with the PS3 yet as they are with the 360. Therefore devs can easier use the 360's potential than the PS3.
Now every Xbox fanboy and Sony fanboy have to admit it that the PS3's technology is far superior to the 360's. That's a fact. So in a year or two years time you will see that most of the games will look much better on the PS3 compared to the 360 as devs get more experienced using the PS3's hardware.

gotta agree with a few things you said, but it IS easier to develop for the xbox due to it being very close to the way pc games are generally developed, while this is good in the short term, lots of games, better multiplatform performance etc, but, and its a big but, this limits the capabilities of the xbox. Ok so the ps3 is harder to develop for, you can see this by the first party games being far superior to the third party/muliplats, but it has huge potencial, it just needs the time! all consoles are the same, you compare the first ps2 games to say god of war 2 and you see a massive improvement. once developers are more comfortable with ps3 and it development tools it will start to excel!

I would call myself an xbox fan but not a fanboy. I play games on every console I just prefer western developed games so I spend most of my time on the xbox360.

I do agree that PS3 has better tech then the x360 but the differences between the 2 machines are a lot closer then they were during the PS2 Xbox generation. This isn't just my opinion but the opinion of a lot of developers, and like the last generation multi-platform games will look pretty much the same on each system. With the developers system of choice getting the edge.

Now back on topic. I am glad COD4 will look amazing on both consoles and anyone wishing otherwise is just a sad fanboy.

It also shows that EA isn`t the best company when it comes to framerates, as even games they make for one platform (before porting it to every other)often has issues with the framerate.

But i think this whole 30fps vs. 60fps debate is a bit off target. Granted, 60fps will always be better than 30 fps, if it`s a stable framerate, because that`s the most important thing. Resistance and Gears have 30fps, but a stable one that dosn`t hinder the gameplay and making the gameplay smooth. Like 1080p vs 720p, it dosn`t mean that the 1080p game will automatically look better than the 720p game, as i don`t think anyone would say Calling All Cars looks better than Gears.

It also dosn`t mean that games with bad fps, are not fun to play. I played Medal of Honor: Frontline on PS2, and had many hours of fun with it, despite it`s awful framerate drops. A framerate isn`t the make or break point of a game, but it is necessary that people speak up about fps-problems when they clearly hinder the gameplay.

Funny how people on "both sides" agree on the fact that the PS3 multiplatform games isn`t good enough at the moment, and just places the blame on either Sony or the lazy developers.

I do think Sony needs to be more willing to share more of it`s first party tools with the third party community as developers are struggling with the hardware, and they also have to convince companies like EA to stop releasing "unfinished" games, they should at least have delayed the game and gotten a more stabile fps (although i don`t see it happening). The consumer, i think, has a better chance of doing this, by complaining about bad fps, and demanding it do be fixed if they`re going to buy it. It`s the only way of (at least trying to) get developers to make the time and effort to improve it`s game.

To tell you the truth I think it's great that they got it to work exactly the same on both systems... I will be picking up the PS3 version then Just because My 360 has enough love, with more games then it knows what to do with, so I whatever I can get for my PS3.

I suppose you think MS and the "xbots" pay off these reviewers to give them better scores and better framerates??? I've played back to back Vegas on Xbox 360 and PS3 and you are dead wrong, the PS3 version is muddy looking, jaggies and framerate drops. However the game still plays fine and I think most people wouldn't really care.

You seem to love to accuse "xbots" and use that freakin word over and over while the same time doing the exact same thing with your precious PS3. If they even get close and at 60FPS, they have done bloody well.

We are still early into PS3 development and there are no true second generation titles out yet.

If comparisons are to be drawn then pick titles from correlating timescales at least! say COD2 ('easily one of the best looking Xbox 360 games for launch' - IGN) and RFoM maybe, I dunno.

Not my type of game though (COD4). Bioshock on the other hand...

I dont own a 360 so i can say if Bio Shock is the be alll end all FPS but my guess when my buddy does buy the game it will just be a spit shined FPS

Firstly, I got RFoM at launch because it was a launch title. Tried to enjoy it but it did not hit my button for some reason. I know it got good reviews and know to the right player it is amazing and I respect that but this is only my experience.

I have never really been that much of an FPS person and have only ever got involved when playing ones that have driven and motivated me by the story and interaction (something clicks, I smile and get stuck in).

In fact, since Halflife, not many FPS have done that to me and I had just about lost interest and given up with FPS (shock!) but after giving the Bioshock demo a go (heard good things on a Podcast) found I got sucked in, shat myself, loved the setting, the story and what do you know, I'm playing an FPS without eating my pad!

Be it games or music, we each have our own turn-ons and be it FPS or Metal, I like some and don't like others - just like you.

I must admit, I did not really understand all of your comment but I am all about enjoying games and certainly not being a 'fanboy' lol!, read my post again. Anyway, here is my 'want to play' list at the moment.
