Video Games the ESRB Has Rated Wrong

Associated Content: Since 1994, the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rates video games hitting the store shelves. Ratings can help gamers and parents decide which games to buy. Although, there are times when I feel the ESRB gets the ratings wrong. Here are video games undeserving of their ESRB rating and why.

Devil May Cry series. Other than a word here and there, plus Dante pulling himself up from a sword impaled in his chest, not too bad.

Blaze9295173d ago

yeah i completely miss how and why the halo series continue to get an M rating. Halo: Reach definitely sounds like it'll deserve the M rating finally. But the ones before, especially Halo 3 is like, wtf? Even ODST was slapped with an M rating. Yet Uncharted 1 and 2 get T ratings?

MMFGaming5172d ago

Uncharted 2 had a surprising amount of blood for being a T game.

Hell, Flynn

Blew himself up with a grenade at the end.

I agree, i think both Uncharted's should have been rated M.

blue7xx75172d ago (Edited 5172d ago )

Yeah but DMC is sorta violent not as violent as other games out there but I think it deserves its M rating. But yeah I agree that Halo needs to have a T rating. I never really understood why it was rated M It hardly has any gore or blood even the covenant's blood is blue not red or nudity.

smittyjerkins5172d ago

Funny story about Uncharted 1's Teen rating. The only thing that kept Uncharted 1 from being rated M was that they took out the part where you can kill fish. Amazingly enough being able to kill fish will get you an M rating while killing people warrants a T rating. According to ESRB that is...

Saaking5172d ago (Edited 5172d ago )

Halo is not an M rated title (they just did it to make it look less kiddish). UC2 is bordering on an M rating.

Anyways, imo ESRB is REALLY flawed. They need to rethink their rating methods. They also have too much power. If they give out an AO they're basically banning the game thus forcing devs to lower the game to the ESRB standards.

RockmanII75172d ago (Edited 5172d ago )

Halo CE was rated M because of the 9/11 scare

Halo 2/3/ODST were rated M because they don't want it to look like that they are becoming more easy going with there ratings

Hopefully after Reach it will have been enough time for people to forget about the original Halo trilogy so they can rate it fairly.

Of course, this is just what I think and I could be way off, but it makes sense.

Finally! Someone who recognizes the craziness that is the ESRB. Super Smash Bros. Melee only for 12 and up? Ludicrous. It has pikachu for heavens sake. PIKACHU.

Elven65172d ago

In Halo I think the Flood are the deciding factor has you can see corpses or even in some cases living people transform pretty violently into them. I tried going back to the first Halo game a few months back to play through the game and I found some of the stuff pretty depressing, like the cries for help the marines would call out for when they were stuck with a grenade.

Halochampian5172d ago

I agree. The flood, i believe, was a major deciding factor. Having limbs and heads everywhere when they explode is pretty violent.

The BS Police5172d ago

Joseph Staten from Bungie has stated that he thinks Halo 1 was rated M only becuase of 9/11.

iceice1235172d ago

I don't get that.

Anyway, I thought Halo 1-3 were rated M because of the Flood? That's the gore part of Halo.

Halo 3 ODST is the only Halo game I think to be rated improperly in the series.

The BS Police5172d ago (Edited 5172d ago )

After 9/11 censorship was failry common, TV and radio were also targeted.

The overall theme in Halo 1 about Religious zealots trying to wipe out humanity was probably the main reason why Halo 1 was rated M.

Torkith5172d ago

Honestly they're really should be another rating implemented [T+]
The [T] rating has a massive range. I do agree that Uncharted 1+2 should have been rated [M] but in this case it's rated [T] let's compare games:

Both of these games are rated [T]

Super Smash Bros: Brawl [T]
-Cartoon Violence
-Crude Humor

Uncharted 2 [T]
-Blood
-Violence
-Suggestive Themes
-Language

Both of those games have the exact same rating. Uncharted 2 should be AT LEAST [T+] Meaning it's a higher rated T game, just like they have [E10+] As I work at a video game retail store it becomes very difficult to deal with customers who will not purchase a game for their 10 year old child because it's rated [T] And we're talking games like SSBB. I ALWAYS have to explain that [T] has a large range and it really only contains minimal violence (for the lower rated [T] games)

Implement [T+] please.

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
