Metal Gear Arcade Footage

The AOU arcade show in Japan has recently started, featuring some of the best and most perverse Japanese titles. For the moment satisfy your cravings with two videos from Konami's Metal Gear Arcade. Notable features include head-tracking and cabinets that can be linked.

so its like metal gear online, just with a fast paced arcade style gameplay..interesting.

villevalorox5194d ago (Edited 5194d ago )

first I have heard of this, can someone brief me on it? Looks like it's in 3d, looks like maybe it is using motion controls too. Is this ps3 only? is this even on ps3? is this like dlc for mgo? looks just like MGO...

EDIT: never mind, i looked it up, so it's not on ps3 it really is an arcade machine... has to be exclusive to japan, because I really do not think arcade is popular in the us anymore, all the arcades around here are dead. Would love to have this though :)

Nitrowolf25194d ago

yup arcade is pretty much dead in US unless you go to a fair or something, in japan though its still quite popular

socomnick5194d ago

Looks really lame :/

They took Metal Gear Online a failed online game and they added other gimmicky things fail.

UP5194d ago

I'm getting tired of you.
If you do not like anything metal gear (or ps3) don't go to those pages please.many people such as me still play MGO. Mostly hardcore people play it and rarely turns to MW2 nonsense.

socomnick5194d ago

MGO had potential, some of the game modes are insanely fun but MGO overall is a huge failure.

The inconsistent damage values in the game ruin the games fun.

M4 takes 10 shots to the chest to kill yet a random head shot does the same.

UP5194d ago (Edited 5194d ago )

how can you call MGO both insanely fun and a failure.

And i like how you bring up damage inconstancy in MGO but not in MW2.

Nitrowolf25194d ago

well i actually liked MGO the only thing that truely ruined it was that dumb Konami ID

socomnick5194d ago

Nothing is inconsistent about the damage in mw2.

Weapons all are powerful and there is a multiplier value set for each body location.

For example.

The Scar deals 40 damage points per shot at point blank range.

After 30 yards it deals 30.

The head has a multiplier of 1.4 and the body of 1.

It therefore takes 3 shots at point blank to the body, or 2 shots to the head.

Meanwhile MGO has some weird damage value.

1 head shot = 100 hp lost, and body shots are anywhere from 5hp - 10 hp.

It was just a mess, but it was expected, the Japanese suck at making good multiplayer competitive games.

This actually looks really cool. I hope I'll get to play it someday.

mistajeff5194d ago

I had no intention of getting Sony's motion controller or a 3D monitor any time soon, but if they release a 3D patch and head-tracking patch for MGS4 I'm getting both as soon as humanly possible.

Nitrowolf25194d ago

this def looks like 3D so mybe they will release a patch ( i know trophy probaly wont come but i can still hope)

PirateThom5194d ago

Looks pretty cool. Shame it's never going to make it outside of Japan. Arcades are still a small neich here, no where near popular enough to get something like this.

NSG5194d ago

Didn't they used to be much bigger? When I was younger I had been to a few, but never traveled much so not sure how big they were outside my area. But even those have closed down since then.

PirateThom5194d ago (Edited 5194d ago )

Arcades used to be the best place to play a lot of games. At one point the graphics where unmatched by home systems, games used to be significantly watered down graphically (even though most people remember the console versions).

Arcades really started to die when consoles became capable of decent arcade replication and arcade sticks for fighters became affordable.

I mean, I've played arcade games, one was a Ferrari Sim import from Japan (full sit down) and, while the handling felt great, the graphics were PS2 level, which is the same of a lot of arcade games, sadly.

peeps5194d ago

living in the uk my only knowledge of arcades is the really old game machines they have in cinema's etc. usually playing dated games like time crisis lol

A Matter Of Trust: What The Game Industry Should Do To Win Gamers Back

Skewed and Reviewed have written an Opinion Piece covering issues in the gaming industry, how current issues were issues years ago, and what can be done to help restore consumer trust.

anast1d 16h ago

Nothing. It's up to the gamers to stop consuming content from companies that they don't agree with.

Garethvk1d 3h ago

How do you know if you agree with it or not unless you play it? Which without conventions forces gamers to rely on trailers. Perhaps Demos should be made more frequently. But companies need to do better as well.

anast1d 2h ago

Wait until release. Watch Gameplay. Exercise patience.

Garethvk1d 2h ago

But is that not what they have now? Tons of gameplay or are you talking about watching actual gamers play it versus the trailers and streams? The big issue is that some companies pay streamers and influencers and they create content but for me; that is hardly a fair, unbiased, and factual look at a game.

1nsomniac1d 6h ago

Get rid of the suits in the industry and job done!!

Garethvk1d 3h ago

They usually are attached to the money sadly. It would be nice to have gamers in charge but you have so much money invested that business people are needed. Hence the issue; you need people who know business but are also gamers who know have an eye to the community. It sounds simple in theory that if you give gamers quality games that they want to play; money will be made. But that is not always so.
