Good for the kid I say, though no one can touch the original N64 Christmas Kid. Everything else since that has been an attempt to copy his fame.

As for staying away from console gaming, your loss. Console gaming is great, but enjoy your PC/handhelds I guess.

Anyways, for my Christmas I got Demon's Souls (though I opened it for my bday a few days ago) and FOR Christmas I beat that damn Tower Knight boss. What a satisfying Xmas it's been :)

The real presents will start on boxing day when I rake the stores of good gaming deals.

PC gaming is probably more "grown up" but not by much.

Truth is although their are alot of spoiled little punk kids online by and large margin the adults on both xbl and psn are far worst. I'm a pretty laid back guy and more often than not its the ones who claim to be adults that are the ones who cause much of the problems. I mean really its usually some kid(judging by his voice) is just having fun, he says "hell yeah I pwned u" after a kill and some sensitive "adult" responds with a birage of profanity at the kid, sure then the kid reponds with the same or worst type language but who's the kid and who's the adult?

This site is so screwed up, it was a funny vid, really doesnt matter which console it was, it should of reminded you about what gaming is suppose to be about, I wish I could have that same feeling back like when I got my NES. Although I wasn't quite at this level, and I bought it myself anyway so it wasn't like it was a surprise, I remember the excitement and butterflies of getting my first 360. It kicked off the "next gen" of gaming, actually made use of that big HD projector I had bought and just signaled a new era of gaming.

Yes they are. I was not here 18 months ago so I can't commit on that, but I have been here the last 9 months and it is exactly like he said. The PS3 fanboys commit 20 to 1 more than their counterparts. I still can't stand the 5-year-old excuse "They did it First", I don't except that from my 7 year old son, and I think it makes a weak argument here. I would say the same thing about 360 fanboy's. I agree with you. I think that aspect has been overexaggerated to an extreme degree. I game on PSN and LIVE about equally and I honestly don't see any real difference in the behavior of the people that play on each service.

Play Uncharted 2 online, like I do all the time, and you will see that there are a lot of people just talking crap. Mostly adults spewing childish insults. The same as you get on certain 360 games.

When I think about it there seems to be more difference from game to game than there is from service to service. The really competitive games bring out more trash talkers.

But judging from your responses, it's obvious that the Playstation Fanbase is old, worn, decrepit, pompous, and forgot what gaming is all about. They left that feeling behind in favor of starting a family, high tech home systems, etc. It's understood though. That happens in old age. That's why the PS3 game sales lag so far behind in sales. It's just not that important anymore.

And it's exactly why XBOX360 has already won the Console Race. And they did it in two words... YOUNG PEOPLE. XBOX720 winning the next generation is already in the bag. These same gamers (especially this kid) will convert right over.

when i saw my N64 under the true, it was a nice surprise and i did get very excited (just not to the level of this kid)

The reason for that is that PS3 owners have lives. We're older, we have jobs we have girlfriends we have responsibilities. I enjoy gaming, but I can't run out and buy a game on the first day of release like 360 owners. PS3 has long legs, it'll sell more over time. Besides if you actually look at the numbers, which I'm sure is hard for you, you'll see that the ratio of game sales even out when you consider the install base between them. And by the way its more like 25 million users, consider 10 million or more (who knows MS wont tell) 360s have the MS quality stamp on them (RROD)

The video was posted for two reasons, it's funny because the kid freaks out, but more importantly its christmas so it reminds everyone who celebrated christmas as a child of what they experienced. In other words, it's okay to make fun of the kid because he acts ridiculous, stop getting all defensive Xbots. His own parents posted this video because they thought it was funny, it's fair game to crack a joke on him. It's not like he even reads this site, and when he gets older he's going to crack jokes on himself for being in that video. Learn to laugh.

That said, the RROD joke is really getting old, and is ridiculously bad considering that seriously 20 people have posted some idiotic comment about it. The first time it was kind of funny, same goes for "the face of Xbox live" joke, but only one person needs to make the joke and then we can move on. This isn't even an article discrediting the PS3 or over hyping the Xbox, so there's no need to get all SDF about it. It just makes you seem desperate to keep harping on about the same crap. As a PS3 fan myself, I feel like I need to say something about it because I'm not so desperate, and I don't want you to be the only representation of our shared demographic.

Of course the defensive reaction of the Xbox fans is equally desperate. Just take your licks. Xboxes break down sometimes and a large segment of Xbox live players are adolescents who act childishly, but these things don't represent you personally so don't get all offended. And yes, these things suck for you when you have to deal with them, but they're kind of funny in the light of the ongoing console war, which should be just a friendly rivalry, but which too many people on this sight take way too seriously.

And to those who are moaning because this isn't news. Half of the crap posted to this site is not news. Top ten lists, over the top opinion articles, console comparisons and the cosplay girl of the week are not news, but it makes sense to post them here because it's a site for gamers. So it's not strange that someone would post a funny video. You people either haven't experience christmas in a normal way, or like some of the xbots are just plain humorless.

In a week they'll be calling the child psychologist for his video game addiction. Good job, parents. You've created another monster. Kids like that don't have the responsibility to be a gamer. He clearly has no self control. You've pretty much decided his fate for the next 10 years as he is going to grow up a fat loser virgin with no friends in high school. I think the video shows an OTT reaction, but a normal one considering his age.

However, I believe the real issue is just how 'happy', this present makes him.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be happy with his present, but what worries me is that maybe nothing else, out of all the gifts you could get a kid at Christmas, could make him happier.

Of course, it's natural for kids to obsess over things they want. But, more and more, it's games consoles and not action figures or toys that they can touch - play ‘with’ and not ‘on’. Games are great. But they don't encourage the imagination in the same way as toys.

I'm in my mid 20s and I've played games since I was this kid's age, but, to be honest, back then I would never have been so obsessed with owning a console. 12-13 maybe. But not at this kid's age. Games simply weren't developed enough to hold my concentration or give me as much excitement as my Action Man (who, to this day, probably gave me better adventures than any video game could).

But if I'd grown up in this age of Modern Warfares, Uncharted 2s and Fallout 3s. Well. I wonder if my good old Action man with his 'eagle eyes', would have got a look in. And, perhaps, I wouldn't have developed as mature an imagination or capacity for creative thought as I did - or at least, think, I did. That worries me.

I say all this because I've been working as a Teaching Assistant these last 4 months, helping out with kids (often those who need extra help in their classes) just a little older than this boy. All they talk about is games; I can see them day-dreaming about being on their Xbox when the teacher is reading a story in English, and while it reminds me of how I was at their age (Perfect Dark was a great day-dream), I can't help feel that their were also 'other' distractions I had which were as important. It scares me when the conversations I hear between these kids revolve entirely around the different ways you can kill people in MW2 (a game they shouldn't even be playing ha, ha, ha), or how good the graphics are in ... oh yeah... MW2.

Now, it's natural for these kids to find these things cool. What kid wouldn't? But what saddens me is that the kids don't engage with gaming on an intellectual or creative level either. They go on and on about what sweet bits of action they've had blasted through their eyeballs, or who they've recently 'OWNED' at FIFA 57,009 but they never talk about the stories in their games or imagine improvements to the games they've played - in other words, they can't access what communities like this talk about all day.

To me, this kind of shallow addiction or obsession with competitive or violent games is symptomatic of a younger generation who don't have to look far for an adrenaline rush. Heck, they only have to turn on the Xbox or PS3. And while I think games ARE more active than cartoons, and I'll be a lifetime hardcore gamer, I don't think children can be raised soley on the videogame industry's current output of titles. Gaming isn't the same for them, they can't appreciate how it's grown or that there WAS anything else we did for fun. It would seem rightly absurd to them, given how good videogames are today.

But kids should be able to play in the purest sense shouldn't they? Without computers. As adults, we find it hard to go back to a time when a broom handle could be a lightsabre, or cardboard box a general purpose tool for inventing sets for toys. These kids might lose the ability before they knew they had it.

I know that if I have children, I wouldn't want them to miss out on what the virtual world has to offer, for games opened my eyes to some great ideas, but I would consider it a loss of innocence on their part if they couldn't see the fun to be had with a box of LEGO or my collection of Star Wars figures.

In short, I consider myself lucky to have had both traditional, low-tech play and a high-tech, virtual play as part of my upbringing. Today, I'm in awe of how far games have come. But such powerful machines would have robbed me of part of my childhood - I am almost certain of it, given how much time I spend with games as an adult.

The undertone to this comment: this video could show the day this kid stopped 'playing' in his mind, and started playing on his TV. I hope not.

Xmas sucks when you get old. You have money so there isnt anything you desperately want and you just dont get as hyper as you used to. But seeing this was good. It was like a visual reminded of some of my epic Xmases when I was a kid like when I got a MegaDrive and 15 games. That was awesome.
