Game Informer has revealed their top 200 games of all time, across all platforms, including titles from this generation.

As a classic coin-op fan, it is good to see Ms. Pac-man & Galaga being the top two coin op games on the list. I would have put Donkey Kong before either of those however - but that's just my opinion.

If I was stranded on an island and had to choose three games to have with me, those would be the three. Nearly 30 years old, yet they have nearly unlimited replay-ability.

Amazingly, all three classics were released in 1981. Add in Frogger, Tempest, & Centipede, and you have the greatest year in gaming history.

Xenogears, my favorite jrpg of all time, and one of the best games I have ever played in my opinion, is bested by its cousin Xenosaga? And doesn't even make it anywhere in the top 200?

Gah im not that upset, most of their choices seem pretty well thought out, though a few do seem out of place, im happy to see castlevania sotn, metal gear solid, bioshock, megaman 2, okami, ico, and shadow of the colossus in the top 100 at least.

Makes you remember how many amazing games there really have been in nearly 30 years time.

I don't really think there is an "Ultimate Greatest Games List." It's opinions, depending on who makes the list. GameInformer usually can be trusted and they aren't biased at all from what I read in the magazine.

I'd have actually put No One Lives Forever 2 and Mercenaries 1 in there somewhere, Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge, Serious Sam also, and MANY of the games they have in there I'd have higher or lower. Ocarina of Time would be higher, and Super Mario Bros. 3 would be higher as well. Max Payne and Far Cry 1 would be MUCH MUCH higher. And where the f*** is Perfect Dark 1???

This is a very objective concept, so it's not surprising to see the variety of views.

World of Warcraft definately deserves its spot, however console gamers will never understand that.

If you have never played the game (i persume that includes most people here on N4G) then even commenting on it is laughable.

World of Warcraft is the most successful game of all time. No game or even movie is remotely close to cashing in the same amount of money that WoW is. Why is WoW so much more succesful then any other MMORPG or game for that matter? Surely they must have done something right? The truth is its because is damn good and addictive.

WOW and CoD4 in the top 10, and Nintendo love dominates. The Nintendo stuff's always been a trend in the lists, I guess, but considering some of the not-so-goods that made the list, I think they should have included:

Demon's Souls (honestly, this should be a no-brainer!)
Dragon Age (PC, I mean, they put Baldur's Gate II in there...)
Shenmue (Forklift included)
Rez (My icon says it all)
Lumines (Tetris Attack? come on!)

And one for the "Why the hell is this on the list?" section:

That game was amazing. Hands down one of the most memorable games I've ever played and for sure the top adventure game of all time in my opinion.

At it's nowhere on this list. That's a gross oversight. And where are the Wing Commander games on the list? Or Elite? Hell, Impossible Mission by Epyx pretty much invented the platformer puzzle game.

Don't get me wrong. Looking at this list I don't see a single game that wasn't amazing. It just feels like there were definitely some games that fell through the cracks.

Yeah I agree, Jak 2 was my favorite too... I can't even remember how many times I died in that game, and I think it was that much increased difficulty that made it my favorite out of Jak 1, 2, and 3.

I think Jak 2 just might be my favorite game ever, despite my unnatural love for metal gear. The First and third games were great, but Jak 2 was perfection. Glad to see at least one Jak game up there though. \

Edit: Also, Sonic the Hedgehog was pretty rad back in the day.

Jak 2 and 3 were graphicly mindblowing for me, but I can say that I went back to Jak and Daxter for many playthroughs because I just loved the whole natural/jungle precursor theme they had going and it just felt damn amazing to explore since it was so pretty/colorful.

I remember walking out of the green sages hut for the first time and looking out over the village and being able to see the incredible draw distances that had never before been done. I was blown away. The guys at Naughty Dog just make magic.

One thing that I do agree with in this list is that they didn't include games from this gen. in the Top 10... don't get me wrong, there's been some great game released this gen., but games from a console generation ago and more really set the groundwork for what we play today, and they really deserve to be in the Top 10.

Other thoughts:

- After taking the entire list into account, I was kind of surprised they listed God of War so high at #26.

- Definitely don't agree with GTA4 being rated higher than GTA San Andreas

- I think that either SoTC and Ico or both should've at least been in the top 50.

- MGS3 should be listed MUCH closer to MGS2.

- Very nice to see that 2 PS3 exclusives that were just released this year alone (Uncharted 2 and Infamous) made GameInformer's list.

I also think GameInformer pretty much just revealed their 2009 GOTY. Only 5 games released in 2009 made this list: Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2, Infamous, Borderlands, and Batman: AA... and Uncharted 2 is listed the highest out of all of them :)

It seems like they chose the games which they "liked" without any regard to their impact on the industry. Half-life 1 should be before Half-life 2 if it was based on impact. Also, Pong should be #1. A list of games which a few journalists liked is pretty useless.

Halo was such a revolutionary game for online console games. One of the most fun I've had in a Multiplayer game. CTF was so freaking intense.

I still wish I had bought a 360 for Halo 3, but I'm satisfied with my PS3... But one day, I'll play Halo again.

no, it's no the most revolutionary game ever but it doesn't have to be.

as far as war FPS action goes, i've never played a game more intense and frantic as KZ2. the amazing visuals are just icing on the cake, and help to immerse the player.

they treat these lists as definitive, instead of the subjective pieces that they are, so you can't blame people for being irked at the omissions of certain games.

they don't even do full write ups for all the games, and only wax poetic about the ones you'd expect. the lesser known games on the list, in particular near the end, don't get any explanation as to why they are great and deserve to be on the list.

and putting games from this year seems a bit premature.

while it's nice to see Uncharted 2 on the list (quite possibly the best game released this generation on a design and technical level), i still think it's too early to say it's the best of all time.

and Batman: Arkham Asylum? great game. i personally love it, and it's certainly the best Batman game ever, but of all time? so, now one button combat is fine and dandy, but deep combat systems like in Heavenly Sword are called generic?

a list featuring the most influential games of all time would probably be a bit more interesting and informative to the reader. not just the popularity contest that is GI's article.

but again, i'm just in a testy mood today, and lists like this are always going to be contested.

How to judge a 'top x number' of games list just based on RPGs

Look for all Square titles, which will primarily consist of Final Fantasy games, but Chrono Trigger will be in there too. Next locate Symphony of the Night from Konami.

If Final Fantasy 7 is listed anywhere above or close to any other Square game or Castlevania, then ignore the list as being written by fools.

No, they didn't publish a list of the greatest 200 games of all time. They published a list of what in thier opinion are the greatest 200 games of all times or the list that they want you to think are the greatest 200 games of all time.

Most of you are too kind about this list or simply haven't read it thoroughly. It's an absolute waste of time as a list. They know or care nothing about most of the great British games that were produced on the Amiga, Commodore 64 or Spectrum.

Is there even a single Sega game on there at all? There isn't one by Rare! No Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, BANJO KAZOOIE, DK64, Conker's Bad Fur Day?

This is an insult of a list written by an amateur games player.

Hold on - this list was written by a site that PUBLISHES MAGAZINES. They deserve to be sacked, they really do. Even if you forgive them (and I don't at all, in their position) for not knowing some of the British games from the 2D era, there is no excuse for completely ignoring Sega and Rare. They don't even rate Jet Set Radio for doing something innovative?

This list was not written by someone with a proper gaming soul. Where is the Resident Evil remake on the Gamecube? Or any of the Monkey Island games? It just reads like the most basic of basic casual gamers list. If Bioshock and Half Life 2 hadn't been made by American studios they might not have been selected by them at all.

What no Vagrant Story. Wait it is there just really high up there on the list. I am not a fan of the list at all. Though this is Game Informers best and not mine. So not much I should say on it. That being said why is WOW on the list. It may bring in lots of money but it is not a good game at all. Modern Warfare is another one that makes you think. Why is it so high? I would take Morrowind over Oblivion. Plus it is not The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivious. There are some great games though. Just if it was my list I would have added some more Rare games like Donkey Kong Country 2.

Maniac Mansion was fun.I think it was on the Genesis too. Actually im pretty sure I had it for the Genesis.

Vice City wasnt the pioneer, but I enjoyed it alot more than GTAIII. Mainly due to the music and spoofy Miami Vice theme.

But i'll guess why you havent heard of half of these games. Your probably younger than half these games. And I mean no offense saying that.

Vagrant Story is waaaaaay too low. One of only 4-5 games that Famitsu has given 40/40 (Correct me if I'm wrong) and it's not even in the top 100. It's a classic, an unsung classic, that never got the recognition it deserved.

I only skimmed the list... but I noticed Kingdom Hearts 2 on there.... Seriously? Ugh... KH1 was great but KH2 was pretty bad. It was like the same game but with a way worse story.

cod4 is NOT the 15th best game of all time.

I'm a big fan of blizzard games (except WoW but I'm not going to disagree with 11 million people). Almost all blizzard games are on the list.

I was surprised to see Diablo II at 28 however, didn't think so many people liked this game as much as me.

Halo 3 is the most intense addictive fun game i have ever played!
but it all started with Halo 1 followed by Halo 2!!
