Well, I know this list is going to be very controversial since people have different opinions. Personally, though, while I absolutely love Zelda, I wouldn't have put that game at number one.

Madusha5271d ago

Good list but yeah, Zelda shouldn't be at the top. I see Half Life 2 at #5 but where's Half Life 1? It was a legendary game.

Megaton5271d ago

lol @ WoW and CoD4 in the top 20.

Saaking5271d ago

I don't agree with the top 10 at all. The rest of the list is alright, but they certainly could have put more though into it.

soxfan20055271d ago (Edited 5271d ago )

As a classic coin-op fan, it is good to see Ms. Pac-man & Galaga being the top two coin op games on the list. I would have put Donkey Kong before either of those however - but that's just my opinion.

If I was stranded on an island and had to choose three games to have with me, those would be the three. Nearly 30 years old, yet they have nearly unlimited replay-ability.

Amazingly, all three classics were released in 1981. Add in Frogger, Tempest, & Centipede, and you have the greatest year in gaming history.

Seven_ate_Nine5271d ago

Does anyone see Psychonauts on the list?

It will always be number one in my book :D

ndibu5271d ago

Always good to see my favourite gaming franchise get a mention on a top 200 games list. Did anyone else notice number 98? Grand Theft Auto Vice City (PS3,360,2009)...um...huh? Did I miss a non expansion GTA game this year or something?

Liquid Dust5271d ago (Edited 5271d ago )

Xenogears, my favorite jrpg of all time, and one of the best games I have ever played in my opinion, is bested by its cousin Xenosaga? And doesn't even make it anywhere in the top 200?

Gah im not that upset, most of their choices seem pretty well thought out, though a few do seem out of place, im happy to see castlevania sotn, metal gear solid, bioshock, megaman 2, okami, ico, and shadow of the colossus in the top 100 at least.

Makes you remember how many amazing games there really have been in nearly 30 years time.

toaster5271d ago

I don't really think there is an "Ultimate Greatest Games List." It's opinions, depending on who makes the list. GameInformer usually can be trusted and they aren't biased at all from what I read in the magazine.

nbsmatambo5271d ago (Edited 5271d ago )

56. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3, 2009) > 107. Gears of War (360, 2006)

BWS19825271d ago (Edited 5271d ago )

and only agree with about half the choices making it into the top 200. I'd have actually put No One Lives Forever 2 and Mercenaries 1 in there somewhere, Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge, Serious Sam also, and MANY of the games they have in there I'd have higher or lower. Ocarina of Time would be higher, and Super Mario Bros. 3 would be higher as well. Max Payne and Far Cry 1 would be MUCH MUCH higher. And where the f*** is Perfect Dark 1???

This is a very objective concept, so it's not surprising to see the variety of views.

BWS19825271d ago

I have to have connection problems and it takes like 40 minutes to resolve it, and low and behold, I can't edit my post above: I MEANT to say "subjective" and not "objective". Stupid editing confines.

ico925271d ago

GTA 4 shouldn't have even been in the top 200 let alone the top 100

iamtehpwn5271d ago

over Final Fantasy VII?

PFFFT. fail.

Perjoss5271d ago

It's not a bad list, a little nintendo heavy but it's got a nice balance of PC and console, and i like the way they make it clear that the version of street fighter 2 they loved was the coin-op :)

Perkel5271d ago

191 metal gear solid 3

THE LIST IS A FAIL !

half-life 2 better than half-life ? LOL !!

30. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivious (360/PC, 2006) LOL most boring game of all the time.

i can go on and on

callahan095271d ago (Edited 5271d ago )

"30. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivious (360/PC, 2006)"

Oblivious indeed! Hahaha.

"98. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS3/360, 2009)"

Uh... What? PS3/360, 2009? I don't think so.

They also have weird listings, like Portal is not listed for PS3, but Team Fortress 2 is, although they both came out in The Orange Box for PS3.

LittleBigPlanet waaaay too low on the list, also.

SuperM5271d ago

World of Warcraft definately deserves its spot, however console gamers will never understand that.

If you have never played the game (i persume that includes most people here on N4G) then even commenting on it is laughable.

World of Warcraft is the most successful game of all time. No game or even movie is remotely close to cashing in the same amount of money that WoW is. Why is WoW so much more succesful then any other MMORPG or game for that matter? Surely they must have done something right? The truth is its because is damn good and addictive.

vhero5270d ago

modern warfare in top 20?????? WTF?!?!?!

lightningsax5270d ago (Edited 5270d ago )

WOW and CoD4 in the top 10, and Nintendo love dominates. The Nintendo stuff's always been a trend in the lists, I guess, but considering some of the not-so-goods that made the list, I think they should have included:

Demon's Souls (honestly, this should be a no-brainer!)
Dragon Age (PC, I mean, they put Baldur's Gate II in there...)
Shenmue (Forklift included)
Rez (My icon says it all)
Lumines (Tetris Attack? come on!)

And one for the "Why the hell is this on the list?" section:
Gunvalkyrie!

At least they included Okami. They got one right.

xLordOblivionx5270d ago

Excluding Banjo Kazooie makes this list an automatic fail.

foxtheory5270d ago (Edited 5270d ago )

COD4 above:
Final Fantasy VII
Resident Evil 4
MGS
Ocarina of Time
Symphony of the Night
God of War
Bioshock
Half Life
Goldeneye
so on...

Also, COD4 is at 14 and MW2 is at 181. Just thought I'd point that out.

And there are ones that are way too low:
Uncharted 2
Mass Effect
Shadow of the Colossus (84? C'mon...)
God of War 2
Windwaker
MGS4 (and Gears of War is right above it, I fail to see the logic)
LittleBigPlanet
Infamous
MGS3 (191 is waaaaaay too low!!!)

Fail list if I do say so myself.

AnttiApina5270d ago

Oh yeah! Deus Ex at the place 48. and that's all I care!

Anon19745270d ago

That game was amazing. Hands down one of the most memorable games I've ever played and for sure the top adventure game of all time in my opinion.

At it's nowhere on this list. That's a gross oversight. And where are the Wing Commander games on the list? Or Elite? Hell, Impossible Mission by Epyx pretty much invented the platformer puzzle game.

Don't get me wrong. Looking at this list I don't see a single game that wasn't amazing. It just feels like there were definitely some games that fell through the cracks.

kwicksandz5270d ago

Deus Ex the game of all time @ 46?

List = fail

QUNE5270d ago

i stop read in :

187. Infamous (PS3, 2009)

191. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2, 2004)

fail list is fail..

Saaking5271d ago

infamous is great, but better than MSG3? I don't think so.

Mr Face Creamer5270d ago

You stopped reading at 191? There's only two hundred numbers so I don't think the "I stopped reading at" factor works here for you.

Silly droid.

Cajun Chicken5271d ago

Interesting that Jak 3 is there. I personally think that 3 is the weakest of the series. Jak 2's the best for me.

Aclay5271d ago

Yeah I agree, Jak 2 was my favorite too... I can't even remember how many times I died in that game, and I think it was that much increased difficulty that made it my favorite out of Jak 1, 2, and 3.

ReservoirDog3165271d ago

I liked 3 best. Though 1 and 2 were great. I don't know. Maybe it was that huge spider part in 2. I don't know but I thought 3 was best.

It's easily on my top 10.

xionpunk5271d ago (Edited 5271d ago )

I think Jak 2 just might be my favorite game ever, despite my unnatural love for metal gear. The First and third games were great, but Jak 2 was perfection. Glad to see at least one Jak game up there though. \

Edit: Also, Sonic the Hedgehog was pretty rad back in the day.

Liquid Dust5271d ago (Edited 5271d ago )

Jak 2 and 3 were graphicly mindblowing for me, but I can say that I went back to Jak and Daxter for many playthroughs because I just loved the whole natural/jungle precursor theme they had going and it just felt damn amazing to explore since it was so pretty/colorful.

I remember walking out of the green sages hut for the first time and looking out over the village and being able to see the incredible draw distances that had never before been done. I was blown away. The guys at Naughty Dog just make magic.

AEtherbane5270d ago

Your avatar made me think of how much sly cooper should be on this list

ReservoirDog3165270d ago

So true. So true.

Sucker Punch is so under appreciated.

Aclay5271d ago

One thing that I do agree with in this list is that they didn't include games from this gen. in the Top 10... don't get me wrong, there's been some great game released this gen., but games from a console generation ago and more really set the groundwork for what we play today, and they really deserve to be in the Top 10.

Other thoughts:

- After taking the entire list into account, I was kind of surprised they listed God of War so high at #26.

- Definitely don't agree with GTA4 being rated higher than GTA San Andreas

- I think that either SoTC and Ico or both should've at least been in the top 50.

- MGS3 should be listed MUCH closer to MGS2.

- Very nice to see that 2 PS3 exclusives that were just released this year alone (Uncharted 2 and Infamous) made GameInformer's list.

I also think GameInformer pretty much just revealed their 2009 GOTY. Only 5 games released in 2009 made this list: Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2, Infamous, Borderlands, and Batman: AA... and Uncharted 2 is listed the highest out of all of them :)

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
