Hudson: If Shepard Dies in ME2, He/She Wont Be Back for ME3

GOONL!NE: BioWare's Casey Hudson has a stark warning for anyone going to play Mass Effect 2 next year: if Shepard dies in ME2, he/she stays dead for ME3.

"If Shepard Dies in ME2, He/She Wont Be Back for ME3"

No *(#@ing way? Seriously? That's has to be one of the dumbest quotes for the ages.

Buttons5429d ago (Edited 5429d ago )

Whoa, I had no idea people who die don't come back for the sequel.

Edit: I stand corrected. Big Boss much? lol

narked5429d ago

and let us say he dies right... then your story ends with ME2?

Everybody in the squad dies. EXCEPT for Wrex. He ends up killing the reapers with his bare hands. WREX FTW!!!!

Sangria5429d ago

But if you chose to kill Wrex when he becomes crazy at Saren's island (where is developed a vaccine for their genetic disease), who will save the universe from the Reapers? :[

Keyword here is: If

My take: Shepherd CAN die, but depending on certain choices, he may stay alive

(sortta like the Heavy Rain thing where the main characters can die, but the story [trilogy in this case] can countinue with or without the character)

theres my 2 cents

Are you saying they are going to connect two games together and the way we play ME2 will effect the entire ME3 campaign? Seems like that would turn away some customers..

narked5429d ago

why would it turn you away? i mean at least you can enjoy following the same character throughout a whole sequel.

for example if you kill wrex in me1, and the game doesnt continue from your saved game... will he reappear in me2? that would kinda suck.

since it's a game with choice i think that it will be better off if the game continues from your previous playthrough.

only thing left in question is if bioware can pull it off cause it's no easy thing to do. imo they can.

"Are you saying they are going to connect two games together and the way we play ME2 will effect the entire ME3 campaign?"

Yes, pretty much.

"Seems like that would turn away some customers.. "

What's so wrong about an RPG trilogy where your decisions actually matter? That's a pretty epic saga spread out over three games. If you carry over decisions from the first two games, the last could be quite different for each player.

That's what I call a dynamic story.

@narked: Bioware would be my first best choice for a series like this.

"or example if you kill wrex in me1, and the game doesnt continue from your saved game... will he reappear in me2? that would kinda suck."

That would be kind of funny too.

Wrex: Boss, get in the ship and we can escape the Geth!
Shep: Didn't I kill you a month ago?
Wrex: I got better. *winks at the camera*

UltimateIdiot9115429d ago

Like wow, really? Who would have guess? A dead character won't be returning in a sequel.

Xi5429d ago (Edited 5429d ago )

yeah, it never happens.

Sangria5429d ago

So does that mean Mass Effect 3 will have a save recognition to see if your character died in the end of ME2, so ME3 adapts the story to that fact? (that would also mean Shepard in Mass Effect 3 will no longer be the main character but only a NPC)

There may be an Ultimate Survivor [You have successfully finished Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 without Shepard dying] 100G achievement, then :D
/jk

Buttons5429d ago (Edited 5429d ago )

If that's true, then ME3 will most likely come for 360 in 2011, so new console in '11 = debunked.

3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan23d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
