First BioShock PS3 review is in - Scores 93/100

CVG writes: "After just over a year's wait, and plenty of rumours, BioShock will launch for PS3 on October 24. One of the first reviews - from PSM3 magazine - is in and it gives the game the thumbs up.

As expected, the review gives credit to the game's epic story but later on PSM3 says, "Everything and everyone reacts as you'd expect it to, both physics-wise and psychologically so. This means that it's always possible to discover new combinations, making for some beautifully intuitive gameplay."

It adds: "You'll never make such a bad decision that you'll completely scupper yourself - it's effectively impossible to die, since all you do is respawn at the nearest Vita-Chamber."

As I said, it looks worse on the ps3, as always. That must be the power of the cell x's 10 working overtime, right guys? hahahaha

Edit:

Getting disagrees here, but I don't know why... see, they say themselves the graphics are better on the xbox 360 version at the end of the review. They say "if you like visuals over new puzzles the xbox 360 version is for you"

Sorry, guys. Ps3 loses again and as always. A 600 dollar flop.

Sony Rep5696d ago (Edited 5696d ago )

Bioshock is taking full advantage of the cell and blu-ray.

therealwillie5696d ago

don't heed him guys, he feeds off your reactions

Silogon5696d ago

What is this a Dr. Suess book?

"Don't heed Silogon cause he feeds on the reaction of morons. Morons I say, simply cause they know nothing about reality. Reality is a world Silogon likes to live in see, cause in reality things like the cell are nothing more than little boys dreams set to fail. "

Thugbot1875696d ago

It's sad every time you see a dual platform game and the PS3 doesn't kill the 360. On paper the 360 has the inferior hardware. Programming for the console must be just that hard or the hardware must not be all that much better. I refuse to think every programming studio is lazy.

Freezingduck5696d ago

"IGN: Although it was still an early build of the game, the title looks fantastic. The water effects look much slicker, as do many of the environments as they are slowly submerged in water. It's quite obvious that 2K is taking full advantage of the PS3's Blu-ray discs to pack in cleaner high resolution textures for every facet of the game"

600 dollars? No wonder so many people ignore you, and here goes your last bubble.

InMyOpinion5696d ago

From the review: "However, PSM3 also admits: "If you're a lucky multi-format owner who favours visuals over some extra puzzle levels, you're probably better off with 360's original. Otherwise, you needn't panic: Rapture shines on every format and plays identically."

So what you got for waiting a year was some extra puzzle levels, slightly gimped visuals and a 5GB 10-minute mandatory install? A win-win situation lol!

kingboy5696d ago

Dude do us all a favor, sell your ps3 system and get an xbox 360..hopefully that way we wouldn`t hear your cries anymore on every ps3 thread

Kleptic5695d ago (Edited 5695d ago )

stop saying 'always'...its not always...UT3 ps3 and 360...identical...CoD 4...identical...Oblivion...PS3 ...Burnout paradise...PS3...GTAIV...PS3 (you can aruge the 640p vs. 720p all you want, nearly every review declared that as moot, and that the PS3 had better draw distance, better framerate, more realistic color/lighting, faster loading, and less pop-in)...and nearly every recent game, albeit average looking overall, have been identical between the two systems...

No multiplat game, save CoD 4 or Burnout Paradise, really pushed the visual bar for either system...and Cod 4 was identical on both, with BP being superior on the PS3...that says something...Bioshock was noted for impressive art style, not overwhelmingly good visuals on the 360 (after all, its still the same old UE3 thats been around since 2006...high res, yet 'wet' textures, which actually fit in this game...)

yeah, the ps3 doesn't blow the 360 away ever in multiplat games...but please show us a 360 title that is half as complex or visually overwhelming as MGS4...the 360 simply DOESN'T get games that look that good...where is something on the 360 to even point a finger at Killzone 2?...Gears 2 looks great, but its UE3'ness is still front and center with goofy character lighting, horrid muzzle flicker, and the same particle effects from Ut3...

call it whatever you want...the PS3 and 360 are similarly powerful I guess...yet when the right dev team gets ahold of a PS3 (kojima productions or Guerilla Games for example) with a pot of cash, you see things that you won't see unless you have a Crysis worthy rig...

Remember POG flipping out about how Splinter Cell: Conviction devs claimed that only the 360 could achieve the stunning visuals that the game will display?...and that it would rival even high end PCs whenever it releases?...yeah me too...I remember how MGS4 sent the whole damn game back to the drawing board...End_factsheet.exe

enjoy this classic as much as you can cause it's that good

bioshock+lbp=what a good time to be a gamer

xhi45696d ago

and it is up there as one of my favourite games. The twist at the end just made me facepalm myself and go OHHH YEAHHHHhhhhh haha great moment!

I'll probably rent it and have a play through, but I don't see any reason in buying it twice.

but for those who haven't played it......buy it......PLEASE!

potenquatro5695d ago

PS3 fanbois pls play this game. maybe now you all might understand how gears kicks a$$, but it's NOT the best looking game for any system. this game is my favorite single player fps hands down.

DevastationEve5695d ago (Edited 5695d ago )

PS3 is cool

DevastationEve5695d ago (Edited 5695d ago )

Back on topic, Bioshock for PS3 proves that multiplatform equals fun for all. Hey, if I had a PS3 I would definitely pick this game up. I have it on x360 and I don't think there will be any major differences on either of the consoles. I don't even think PS3 gamers will complain about the analog placement, as is usually a common gripe amongst hardcore FPSers. DualShock has a long lineage and I think it's one of the greater icons of the industry, in and of itself. I'm sure FPSs play great with it.

Now, PC is another matter. If I pray and cross my fingers I can get MAYBE 25-45FPS at 1024x768. In DX9 mode, I might be able to actually play it. Plus, I have to get a controller to emulate the console feel. But screw that, just get this game on the consoles.

NegativeCreepWA5695d ago

Would you kindly buy this game.

DeforMAKulizer5695d ago

Haha.. Good one scar360... And true it doesnt work on fanboys hehe

poopface15695d ago

but besides those this is my favorite single player in any FPS since deus ex.

If you like FPS you should at least rent it.

immatt5695d ago

@potenquatro

I don't see in any way how bioshock has to do with gears of war

Firstkn1ghT5696d ago

Yes definitely a classic game. What's strange is that I thought for sure this game was going to have at least a slight improvement in graphics especially since its an year old game.. Looks like the 360 gets another better version.

BabyStomper50005696d ago (Edited 5696d ago )

It's better because?

n4gzz5696d ago

93 out of 100 !!

I guess its flop

mirroredderorrim5696d ago (Edited 5696d ago )

Kn1ght, that's a cheapshot, man.

I read your comment thinking you were going to finally come to earth and give some credit where credit is due, thinking you'd praise both versions equally.

I disagree with what you say, as I can see that from the HD vids of the game off the PS3 version vs. the 360 version on my XBR4 TV... the game is identical.

The great thing about my TV is how heavily I can emphasize on color;meaning I can make the color scheme match the vids online.

Rob0g0rilla5696d ago (Edited 5696d ago )

translation

"I'll be getting some more sleep finally. This one had me worried for a second."

But it comes down to more gameplay or slightly better visuals. I would definitely buy this on PS3 because it has more gameplay but I already purchased it on 360 awhile ago.

More gameplay >>>

PS3 version is a port but plays identical and offers more content that extends the gameplay.

If you really think that the better version has to have better visuals then I'm puzzled as why you have a 360. You should be a PC gamer. They have about 90% of 360s exclusives.

5696d ago
InMyOpinion5696d ago (Edited 5696d ago )

@thereapersson - You're right. It was solely aimed to Rick Astley and some other people I had a discussion with a while back. Definately open zone material =)

Killjoy30005696d ago (Edited 5696d ago )

I'll take the extra content, thank you very much. The PS3 version gets an extra level, and difficulty. And guess what? I can play in 1080p or 720p as standard. Unlike some other consoles...

boodybandit5696d ago (Edited 5696d ago )

Most if not all multi platform games sound better on the PS3. Fact and not an opinion. Half of Bioshocks appeal is the immersion of the sound. Especially when you hear Big Daddy and Little Sis off in the distance and during battles with Big Daddy.

This game is meant to be played in the dark with the surround sound cranked! The sub gave my chills at times on the 360 version. If I am correct I am going to have to borrow a couple nitro pills from my pops just incase I have to kick start my heart after my first Big Daddy encounter on the PS3.

juuken5695d ago

You're unbelievable.
Just...unbelievable.

LeonSKennedy4Life5695d ago

As stated by the developers, the PS3 version will look just as good as the PC version in parts and better in other parts. They've redone a few animations also and added new things.

So, you were saying?

NipGrip5695d ago Show
karlostomy5695d ago (Edited 5695d ago )

After all the article speaks for itself:

"However, PSM3 also admits: "If you're a lucky multi-format owner who favours visuals over some extra puzzle levels, you're probably better off with 360's original."

juuken5695d ago

That doesn't make the 360 version more superior.

The PS3 version is nearly identical to the 360 version.

What's wrong with 360 owners these days? Are they bitter that they're running out of reasons to call multiplatform titles superior on their console so they attack the PS3 version?

Do you play the games for just visuals or do you actually play it for the gameplay?

Love the disagree button slamming. Keep it up guys! You're not doing me anything by doing that! Doesn't change my opinions one bit. :)

YoshiMeetsU5695d ago

Ugh! Just enjoy it as both versions are great! This is actually a good opportunity for both side of this dumb console war to come together and enjoy this excellent game.

Now would you kindly give it a rest!

thereapersson5695d ago

I got banned here AGAIN, this time for pointing out 1st knight's trolling.

The mods are f*cking hypocrites on this site.

NegativeCreepWA5695d ago

Would you kindly enjoy the game instead of worrying about which version is better.

Damn, it doesn't work on fanboys.

Bathyj5695d ago

You just scream farquit dont you? Your dad should have made an astronaught of you and shot you off into space.

At least PS3 owners wont need a patch to play it in widescreen.

Why BioShock Deserves the Dead Space Remake Treatment

Dead Space recently received a popular remake that was faithful yet constructive, and the original BioShock is also deserving of this treatment.

gamerant.com
banger88390d ago

No it doesn't need it. It was remastered in 60 fps last gen and still looks and plays great. Would be a waste of time, money and resources imo. It's games from 3 or 4 gens back that could use the remake treatment.

FallenAngel1984390d ago

There have already been 7th gen remakes of games already

Dead Space in particular already proves that just because a game looks good on original hardware doesn’t mean it cant look and play better

Jin_Sakai390d ago

Agreed although I’m ready for some new groundbreaking IP this generation.

IamTylerDurden1389d ago (Edited 389d ago )

Agreed. Remasters already happened and still look n play fantastic. DS was a different animal. It needed a remake, Bioshock doesn't NEED it. Infinite Remastered for example is extremely viable even today. What we do need is Bioshock 4. Rumors that equated to zip. Where is it? Ken really blew the pooch as well. Left to go do what? He was inspired by Tell Tale or something and went off to become irrelevant. Nice. And Bioshock Vita was scrapped. Fantastic.

toxic-inferno389d ago

Bioshock 4 is definitely still in development. News trickles out about it every couple of months.

And Ken's next game (Judas) looks great from the teaser trailer.

IamTylerDurden1389d ago (Edited 389d ago )

Yeah. Pretty much. I understand why they did it with TLOU to coincide with the show but certainly it didn't NEED a remake desperately. Obviously u are trolling and expect me defend anything Sony but idgaf about all that. I say what i feel is the truth.

Just like TLOU i wouldn't be upset if Bioshock received a remake but it doesn't desperately need it. I'd probably even play it bc like TLOU, i love Bioshock, but in these aren't identical scenarios either. Ppl kill ND for TLOU Remake yet it wasn't even their project originaly. It started as a potential Uncharted remake and passion project via Visual Arts and was passed to Bend i believe? ND took over bc the project obviously wasn't where it needed to be. And yet they still had Factions and possibly TLOU 3 in development as well. Bioshock has been dormant for a decade bar the remaster. Rumors of a sequel haven't materialised. A remake without a sequel would be disappointing. TLOU Remake is more tolerable knowing sequel/spinoffs are in development. Like i said, dif situation.

neutralgamer1992389d ago

It's not all about looks only

Tweaks to story
Tweaks to characters
Improvements to gameplay

Original bioshock have the worst puzzle solving system and can get frustrating quickly

WiiU-Dude388d ago

The last part you said I agree COMPLETELY!!! Game companies need to mine games from the Sega Saturn, PS1 and N64 days and even the Dreamcast, GameCube, and PS2 days to give a full update to. I know those would require more work, but there are PLENTY of gems from those days that people would LOVE to play again or for the first time with a facelift!!! I know I would.

Binarycode389d ago

The games that need remaking are.

Resistance fall of man.
Motorstorm.

PS5 would produce something special.

There's been such an advancement in tech since the PS3 days. It would be awesome. DAY 1 BUY for me.

Storm23389d ago

I would kill for Resistance 1-3 Remake/Remaster. Same with MotorStorm series and Killzone series. Man, I loved my PS3. Can we also get the Metal Gear series and rescue MGS4 off the PS3? There is a rumor of MGS3 getting a remake. One of, if not my number 1, favorite game of all time.

On topic, I played Bioshock like 6 months after release after hearing from everyone and their mother how incredible it was. I know I will be in the minority on this, but I couldn't get into it. I think my expectations were too high. Totally my fault. Maybe I should give it another chance...

IamTylerDurden1389d ago (Edited 389d ago )

Agreed, Killzone as well, but Sony has no interest in the future of those IP. It won't happen. If they cared about Motorstorm they wouldn't have axed Evolution. The last remaster from a dead studio "Wipeout" was exceptional yet nobody supported it. Even with a free VR inclusion. If ppl want these remasters...actually support the ones that release. Medievil same thing. Ppl cried for Demon's Souls Remake, The Last Guardian, Shenmue 3 and the sales didn't match the cries. None of these games sold as u would imagine given the internet pleas for these titles over a decade or more. DeS Remake did alright but given the circumstances it should've sold better. 92 Meta, PS5 launch exclusive, stunning visuals, and the first of the genre in an age where Eldin Ring will push 30 million units. Yes, DeS is only one platform but still.

Binarycode387d ago

I do agree mostly with what you said.

I bought killzone,2,3. Did not like 4 other then it's graphics.

I bought infamous 1,2. Second son never did it for me apart from again the graphics, so parts were good. But world felt too empty. Probably needed a PS5 to do it justice.

Bought all the Resistance and Motorstorms, those games were awesome. They 100% need a remake.

PS3 was just an awesome machine, I know it was a pain to develop for, but it had some many titles that I loved.
I really enjoyed the Bioshock series, the first 2 were best. Very good games.

As for Demon souls.and the souls series in general. They never have had massive sales. I think because they are very hard games. we are talking a million or less. I think the remaster did 1.4million.

Motorstorm pacific rift did 1.4million PS3.I think.

Hopefully some of them will come back.

-Foxtrot389d ago

I would love this

Expand on the lore

Incorporate Bioshock Infinite and Bioshock 2 plot lines

Add room rooms or maybe even an extra area

Maybe new plasmids

Give Jack a personality and add voice acting, it worked for Isaac. Jack did speak at the start of the game so adding onto that and giving him convos between Atlas or Ryan would be great

Aussiesummer389d ago

Man could you imagine what bioshock would look like in ue5 with full raytracing, phwaaarrrhh.
