i think the most impressive part is that one week out of the blue the wii is up 27%

the rest was rather predictable IMO

shine13965809d ago

wii or wii fit back in stock?

Kain815809d ago

sorry but this must be wrong, cause konami Told that allone in EU they sold about 1 Mio. units + US about 650000 + Jap about 580000 = 2,23Mio
units and not 1,8 mio.

BananaSlug5809d ago (Edited 5809d ago )

retailers have yet to sell the entire 1 million to consumers

shipped =/= sold

LordXenu5809d ago

"Konami has announced that MGS: Guns Of The Patriots has sold a million copies in Europe since its release on June 12th – and that it has shipped many more SKUs to its retail partners."

" SOLD a MILLION"

"IT HAS SHIPPED MANY MORE SKUS TO ITS RETAIL PARTNERS"

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/3...

SOLD = 1 million

SHIPPED = more than 1 million

BananaSlug5809d ago (Edited 5809d ago )

clearly that author does not know the difference between the usage of the term "shipped" and "sold" in the games industry.

here is the official konami press release that author correctly quoted but partially misconceived with his own journalism:

http://kotaku.com/5019089/m...

konami clearly stated shipped

shine13965809d ago

the kotaku article could be just as wrong...and thinking that kotaku journalism is above others let alone similiar...well it is your opinion also so I'll respect that...another opinion was this:

DelSource at 06:09 AM on 06/24/08 Reply by Email

Before the nay-sayers step in and choose which part of the press release to take any notice of, Konami say that the have shipped AND sold over a million.

of course then again somebody else thought something else...who's to know?

BananaSlug5809d ago (Edited 5809d ago )

First of all, screw kotaku's journalism and out of context article titles.

Second, how does one deny official, uncut & raw words from a Konami representative -- which is what is highlighted in yellow. In that article highlight, the representative stated that 1 million units were shipped to European retailers. I have yet to see an official quote from Konami that states they sold 1 million units in European territories on or before Jun 24 2008.

Biphter5809d ago

"Metal Gear Solid 4 blows retail away!
Huge first week sales as Hideo Kojima's epic PLAYSTATION®3 title enjoys storming first week
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced that sales of its newly-released Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots title for PLAYSTATION®3 have exceeded one million units within the first week.

Konami has shipped over one million copies of the game to retailers across Europe to meet the exceptional demand"

As far as I see it they said Retail sales EXCEEDED 1 million and shipped OVER 1 million. Maybe its both and the same, but they have at retail and sales in the same sentence, then in the next shipped OVER. They could have sold an amount just over 1 million and shipped an amount a little higher than that the way its worded.

At the end of the day I think vgcharts are a bit low still regardless.

Lew_Ijgee5809d ago

We know they are not 100% accurate. Just use VGchartz as an estimate only please.

MGS4 bundle sold out everywhere and if you don't believe that reason why the PS3 numbers are down then your just wrong. When Sony resupplies the bundles in early July the numbers will be up once again.

PoSTedUP5809d ago

look at the wii yo, what a freak.

Le-mo5809d ago

Why are people approving hardware/software sales number from VGChartz? They've said it themselves that it's only an estimate and ANYBODY can make an estimate so why approve it? Let's just wait for official numbers from NPD or the manufacturers themselves.

Guwapo775809d ago

Because NPD is America only. I personally like to get an idea of what the world is buying and not just my country.

VGCharts do good at what they do. Estimate.

Superfragilistic5809d ago (Edited 5809d ago )

You do realise NPD is an estimate as well?!

The difference is that in America it bases it on approximately 60% of retailers where VGChartz uses less than a 5% sample for early analysis and weights more heavily on other factors such as shipping numbers, past sales results and internet hype. VGChartz then amends their numbers after NPD is released to broaden their sample and better reflect analytical estimates.

Up front NPD is a much better estimate. But it's by no means official, it is merely a much better estimate of the North American market as it uses a much larger sample size. :)

Here's the best explanation you'll find: http://www.n4g.com/gaming/N...

Le-mo5809d ago

I understand what you mean, but the numbers that VGChartz gives out are only estimates. Even you can estimate the amount of hardware/software sale per week. VGChartz numbers are never right and most of the times they are way off from the official numbers.

Guwapo775809d ago

That may be true. But they have more resources than I do to conjure that estimate.

Like I said before VGcharts are good for what they do but by no means do I take what they say as gospel.

Wolfenstein: The New Order Is The Last Of Its Kind

Wolfenstein: The New Order turns ten years old today, so we decided to play it again and discovered just how much of an extinct kind of game it is.

It's an outstanding game and so was The Old Blood. Also a lost era of gaming. Interesting, I received a physical copy of The Old Blood 9 years ago today from Poland. It was digital only in North America initially upon release so I had to import.

Wolfenstein: The New Order - A Highly Rated FPS That Hasn't Stood the Test of Time

Wolfenstein: The New Order launched 10 years ago today, but can it stand up to the modern FPS titles it inspired?

Seth_hun1d 14h ago

I disagree. Its still a fantastic game, with very good gunplay and a surprisingly loveable cast of characters and a good story trough many different and interesting setpieces

hiawa231d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

All The New Order needs for my tastes is a this gen enhancement patch.

ChasterMies1d 10h ago

I played New Order a couple of years after launch and I give it an 8/10. The shooter holds up because it is focused on being a good shooter. There is no crafting, no RPG elements, no open world find the question mark Weapons are fun. Enemies are fun. Levels offer a nice mix of stealth and shooting. You get to be the predator; this isn’t a game about fending off waves of enemies while a robot companion unlocks a door. Most importantly, New Order is the last of a dying breed of single player shooters.

Skuletor1d 9h ago

Singleplayer shooters are still getting released every year, just look up "boomer shooters" and you'll find an an abundance of them. AAA fps campaigns, not so much.

Last year had Trepang2, RoboCop: Rogue City, Turbo Overkill, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, Dread Templar, Sprawl and more

DustMan1d 5h ago

The games you mentioned are not from AAA developers. Wolfenstein likely had a budget that was probably as big as all those games you mentioned combined. I'm not knocking the new wave of retro shooters. I absolutely love them (I think some get much higher review scores than they deserve though). I just really wouldn't describe Wolfenstein as purely a boomer shooter based on the relatively cohesive story, with cut scenes and is fully voice acted. Full set piece moments.

AA development seems to be focused keeping the single player solo experience alive. But the big developers are only concerned about the MTX and milking players who enjoy multiplayer.

ChasterMies21h ago(Edited 21h ago)

The age of AA shooters. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. I like less expense, shorter games.

Abear211d 10h ago

Weird all the Wolfenstein articles.

Can you guess what will be announced at Xbox showcase?

DefenderOfDoom21d 9h ago

What Machine Games did with Wolfenstein franchise is awesome. The game play definitely to me , is still very fun to play !!!
